THE NEW BLUE MOUNTAINS EXPRESS

Tourists will have more express services, more seats and reduced travel times to popular Blue Mountains destinations following a major surge in demand.

The NSW Government’s ‘More Trains, More Services’ program will boost tourism and small business by transforming travel to the world heritage district.

The service enhancements include 24 new express weekend services between Sydney and the Blue Mountains; dedicated eight-car express tourist trains, reducing the return trip by around 20 minutes; more than 25,000 additional seats every week; and a new weekday Sydney to Lithgow return express service.

NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the extra services would cater for rapidly increasing demand with more than one million visitors a year.

“We’re seeing the popularity of the train go through the roof so we’re adding capacity to both weekend and weekday Blue Mountains services,” Mr Constance said.

“The Blue Mountains is a huge domestic and international tourist drawcard with more than a million people seeing the sights and incredible local charm each year.”
