Business Events Australia has officially been announced as the newest Destination Partner of the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO), creating an exciting new chapter in a strategic collaboration focused on education, sustainability and the future of global meetings.

The expanded partnership highlights Australia's growing influence in the international business events sector while reinforcing the country's commitment to responsible tourism, innovation and world-class event delivery.

For international conference organisers, association leaders and corporate event planners, this collaboration positions Australia as an increasingly attractive destination for high-value meetings, conventions and incentive travel.

A New Era for Australia's Business Events Industry

The new two-year Destination Partnership strengthens the long-standing relationship between Business Events Australia and IAPCO, creating valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, destination promotion and professional development.

Through the collaboration, Business Events Australia will engage directly with IAPCO's international network of accredited Professional Congress Organisers (PCOs), showcasing Australia's outstanding conference facilities, innovative venues and diverse destinations.

The partnership will feature targeted educational programs, destination insights and industry content designed to help international event planners discover the many advantages of hosting meetings and conferences across Australia.

Why Australia Continues to Attract International Conferences

IMEX Frankfurt 2026
Australia has become one of the world's most desirable destinations for business events thanks to its modern infrastructure, exceptional hospitality, renowned universities and strong research capabilities.

Major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth offer award-winning convention centres, premium accommodation and excellent transport networks, while regional destinations provide unique settings for incentive travel and executive retreats.

International delegates can combine productive business programs with unforgettable leisure experiences, creating a compelling reason to choose Australia for global conferences and association meetings.

Sustainability at the Heart of Modern Events

One of the most important aspects of the expanded partnership is its continued focus on sustainability.

Business Events Australia will continue supporting the IAPCO Sustainability Programme, extending a collaboration that began in 2025 and now enters its next phase.

The initiative encourages event organisers to adopt practical environmental and social responsibility measures while delivering conferences that leave positive long-term legacies for host communities.

Among the program's key achievements are the launch of the IAPCO Sustainability Strategy, the inaugural IAPCO Sustainability Award and the development of the IAPCO Sustainability Toolkit, providing practical guidance for Professional Congress Organisers seeking to deliver more sustainable events.

Education and Knowledge Sharing Drive Industry Excellence

Brisbane
Beyond destination promotion, the partnership places strong emphasis on education and professional development.

Business Events Australia will contribute destination expertise through educational content, training opportunities and knowledge exchange initiatives that support conference organisers worldwide.

By connecting Australian industry leaders with international event professionals, the partnership encourages collaboration, innovation and the sharing of best practice across the global meetings industry.

These initiatives help strengthen professional standards while promoting continuous improvement throughout the sector.

Australia Showcases World-Class Conference Experiences

As an official Destination Partner, Business Events Australia will have the opportunity to demonstrate the country's remarkable range of conference destinations and event experiences.

From internationally recognised convention centres and luxury hotels to spectacular natural landscapes and Indigenous cultural experiences, Australia offers delegates a unique combination of business excellence and memorable travel opportunities.

Conference attendees can extend their visit to explore iconic attractions, regional food and wine destinations, World Heritage sites and extraordinary wildlife experiences, making Australia an appealing destination for both business and leisure travel.

Global Industry Leaders Welcome the Expanded Partnership

Sally Cope
IAPCO President Sissi Lignou described the Destination Partnership as a natural progression of the strong relationship between the two organisations.

She emphasised that the collaboration brings together destination expertise, sustainability leadership and educational excellence while creating long-term value for IAPCO's international membership.

Tourism Australia's Executive General Manager of Industry and Business Events, Sally Cope, welcomed the expanded partnership, noting that it provides an important platform to showcase Australia's exceptional business events capabilities to international decision-makers while reinforcing the country's leadership in sustainable event delivery.

Business Events Continue to Drive Tourism Growth

Business events remain one of the most valuable sectors of the global tourism industry.

International conferences generate significant economic benefits by attracting high-value visitors who often extend their stays to experience local destinations, restaurants, attractions and cultural experiences.

The partnership between Business Events Australia and IAPCO strengthens Australia's ability to compete for major international events while supporting local communities, tourism operators and hospitality businesses across the country.

As the global meetings industry continues to evolve, Australia's focus on innovation, sustainability and exceptional delegate experiences positions the nation for continued success.

Australia's Future as a Global Meetings Destination

The new Destination Partnership demonstrates Australia's long-term commitment to excellence in business events and responsible tourism.

By combining world-class conference infrastructure with sustainability leadership, educational collaboration and destination expertise, Australia continues to strengthen its reputation as a preferred destination for international meetings and congresses.

For organisations seeking inspiring locations that deliver outstanding business outcomes alongside unforgettable travel experiences, Australia offers a compelling combination of professionalism, innovation and natural beauty.

New broadcast series to show international travellers how to Experience Australia

Experience Australia
Incredible footage of tourism experiences around Australia, captured as part of the National Experience Content Initiative (NECI), has been turned into a TV series which will be broadcast into key tourism markets around the world to promote Australia as a travel destination.

Production company, The Precinct, has created Experience Australia using footage captured as part of the NECI program that provided around 1,500 Australian tourism operators with new imagery and vision of their products to better promote themselves to travellers.

Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, said that Experience Australia will “showcase the best destination in the world, and encourage travellers from near and far to plan and book an Australian holiday here. Australia has so many amazing things to see and do, and Experience Australia shows the depth and breadth of what we have to offer.”

“The first season will highlight everything from Indigenous cultural tours to wildlife sanctuaries, mountain experiences, sailing and everything in between. I’m pleased that the second season will focus on Australia’s growing agritourism sector and feature more than 100 tourism operators, including our outstanding food and wine – which is such a great draw card for visitors.”

“We are fortunate to have Rachel Griffiths voice the show, which covers outstanding experiences across all eight states and territories.”

Tourism Australia Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, said it is pleasing to see yet another use for the imagery and footage produced as part of the NECI program which launched in March 2021 to support the tourism industry during the pandemic.

“NECI was the largest content initiative ever undertaken by Tourism Australia. It provided around 1,500 tourism operators from 57 regions around the country with the high-quality marketing materials they need to attract visitors,” Ms Harrison said.

“With each operator receiving hundreds of images and footage of their product we ended up with an enormous catalogue of material and Experience Australia has given us a chance to take that to a global audience and show why there truly is nothing like Australia.”

Experience Australia will air first on the Outdoor Channel, which is available in 58 countries in more than 96 million households across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Initially there will be two seasons of Experience Australia, both with 10 half hour episodes.

Launceston and Tasmania’s North is going off this Off Season…here’s what’s on

The Nut PHOTO CREDIT: Emilie Ristevski.jp
From crackling fires and vibrant pinot noirs to the pungent aroma of truffles and afternoons gazing at moody ocean swells, a winter jaunt across northern Tasmania will warm your heart and soul. Point your compass north then go with the flow – these Off Season offers will steer you in unexpected directions.

EAT

Settle in for an intimate, chef-led feast at Launceston’s Stelo at Pierre's serving up five courses jammed with local produce. Don’t get too comfy though – you’ll be whisked into the humming kitchen for a personal tour before the night is through.

Sniff, taste and sharpen your senses over blind cider tastings in the cosy back cellar at Brady's Lookout Cider in the West Tamar. Then upskill and create your own ‘Méthode Traditionelle’ cider to take home.

Further north, don a jacket and boots to wander among the vines at Westella Vineyard and Cellar. Learn how wine is shaped by the seasons, then taste these influences over a fireside flight of pinot noir.

PLAY

In winter, Tasmania’s caves come alive with water. Wild Cave Tours offers subterranean explorations at Mole Creek, where you can gaze into mirror-still pools and feel the mist of underground waterfalls pouring over the rocks.

Get lost in intoxicating aromas at a Bridestowe Lavender Estate fragrance workshop (and maybe even find your true calling?). Soak up the history of the Nabowla estate, then roll up your sleeves and get creative.

On the forested outskirts of Deloraine, Truffles of Tasmania and The Truffle Farm Tasmania host hunting tours, where you can really get your hands dirty, unearthing aromatic truffles with the help of faithful hounds.

STAY

While you’re in Deloraine, rediscover romance among misty mountains and heritage charm. Renew your nuptial vows during a cosy stay at Blakes Manor (they’ve got all the details covered).

On the north coast, Low Head Pilot Station is a beacon of warmth among wild winter seas. Pick from a range of cottage accommodation and be treated to a grazing platter and dinner for two, before following a parade of little penguins along the rocky shoreline.

Looking for solitude and sanctuary? Head offshore to Flinders Island for a week at Sawyers Bay Shacks. After all your Off Season adventuring, rest and re-energise on this private patch of beachfront, curled up by the fire with a good book. They’ll even throw in a hire car for when you’re ready to see the sites.

WANT MORE?

This is just the tip of the iceberg (so to speak). Check out more northern Off Season offers:

Give the Gift of Travel this Holiday Season

Australians are being encouraged to give The Gift of Travel this holiday season and support the tourism industry which has been doing it tough throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Gift of Travel campaign, which is the next phase of Tourism Australia’s push for people to Holiday Here This Year, features ambassadors Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster-Blake as they plan the perfect meaningful gift.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Phillipa Harrison said the campaign, which has been launched today, is sure to get people excited and thinking about visiting new places, trying new things and visiting friends and family.

“The pandemic has left people wanting to make up for lost time and giving a travel experience will help people do just that,” Ms Harrison said.

“The Gift of Travel is about encouraging Australians to give more meaningful gifts this holiday season and in doing so give back to tourism operators and communities who have been among the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Last year, Australians spent, on average, $770 on gifts during the holiday season equating to $16 billion in total. If we can encourage people to spend just a fraction of that on travel instead it would be a multi-billion dollar boost for the tourism industry.”

“Whilst the uncertainty around state borders can make booking challenging, the wonderful thing about giving a travel or experience voucher is that they will be there ready for use when restrictions allow and people are ready to go.”

“We know from our research that there are high levels of pent-up tourism demand in Australia, so by giving the gift of travel, people can be sure they are giving a gift that people will want. So, rather than giving socks give a surfing lesson or a walking tour,” Ms Harrison said.

Tourism Australia Chief Marketing Officer Susan Coghill said December and January are traditionally the largest travelling months and this Summer that will be combined with strong pent-up demand for travel.

“The latest travel sentiment data shows the majority of Australians are either thinking or dreaming about their next holiday and now is the time to convert that into gift vouchers and actual holiday bookings,” Ms Coghill said.

“There is a travel gift for everyone at every price point, so for a last-minute gift that will last a lifetime, get inspired at Australia.com.”

Tourism Australia Ambassadors Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster Blake said giving The Gift of Travel is a two-part win, “You’re obviously giving someone that you love an incredible experience that they are never going to forget, and that is better than just another thing that you have bought off the internet which we have all done heaps of this year. Also, it’s a great way to help tourism operators and businesses.”

The Gift of Travel includes a new television campaign centred around Hamish and Zoe reaching out to well-known Australians for holiday gift ideas for their close friend, comedian Andy Lee.

The couple seek advice from around the country, consulting the Outback Wrangler Matt Wright in the Northern Territory, rugby league great Johnathan Thurston in Queensland, actor Hugh Sheridan and Elli Beer in South Australia and comedian Hannah Gadsby in Tasmania.
