A Season of Sound and Sophistication on the Riviera

The glittering shores of Monaco are preparing to come alive once again with rhythm, glamour, and legendary performances as the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival returns for its 18th edition. From 5 July to 15 August 2025, the Principality will host a dazzling series of concerts that blend the intimacy of dinner shows with the power of international music icons.

Organised by Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, this highly anticipated annual celebration is set in the iconic Salle des Étoiles, an open-air venue that offers an unparalleled combination of Riviera elegance and electric energy.

A Bold New Sound Joins the Line-Up

This year, the festival expands its sonic landscape with the debut of electronic music in a special collaboration with Monaco’s legendary nightlife destination, Jimmy'z Monte-Carlo. For the first time, guests will experience a standing concert format, designed to pulse with the immersive energy of the electronic genre while maintaining the chic Monte-Carlo spirit.

Headliners Set to Light Up the Côte d’Azur

Each performance promises a unique blend of style and substance, with musical legends and modern stars sharing the stage throughout the summer.

16 July: Benson Boone, the rising star and social media sensation, will bring his heartfelt ballads and soaring vocals to an intimate dinner-show format.

23 July: Guitar legend Carlos Santana returns to Monaco with his hypnotic fusion of Latin rock and blues in a show that forms part of his global comeback tour.

2 August: Actor and hip-hop artist Will Smith brings Hollywood charm and musical charisma to the stage for a rare and unforgettable performance.

A Global Invitation to Australia and New Zealand

The Monte-Carlo Summer Festival continues to attract international audiences, and 2025 promises to be a standout season for visitors from Australia and New Zealand. With its unique blend of music, luxury, and seaside beauty, the festival offers a one-of-a-kind European summer experience.

Claire Neil, Visit Monaco's Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand, says:

Monaco: A Timeless Destination for Art Lovers

The Principality of Monaco is a thriving epicentre of art and culture, where every corner tells a story of creativity and excellence. From cultural and musical arts to culinary masterpieces and architectural wonders, here are 8 reasons why Monaco stands out as the leading destination for art lovers.

1. Cultural arts

The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, the only museum in the world dedicated to the life and work of the iconic British painter, offers an unparalleled insight into his creative genius.

The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco is a beacon for contemporary art, showcasing cutting-edge exhibitions that explore the intersection of art, history, and innovation. The museum is housed in two locations, Villa Paloma and Villa Sauber, each contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of Monaco with their own distinct architectural charm and historical significance.

2. Classical arts

Monaco boasts its own Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet, and Opera, alongside world-class acts that perform in its venues throughout the year. The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ballets de Monte-Carlo regularly grace the Grimaldi Forum and the iconic Opera Garnier. These performances are a testament to Monaco's rich cultural heritage and its unwavering support for the performing arts. The 2024/25 season celebrates key highlights, including the 100th anniversary of Puccini's legacy with special performances, a tribute to Mozart, and a spectacular New Year's Eve dinner concert.

3. Culinary arts

Monaco's culinary scene is epitomised by the annual Festival des Etoiles. This gastronomic event brings together the world's top chefs such as Alain Ducasse and Yannick Alleno, who celebrate the artistry of cuisine, making Monaco a must-visit destination for food lovers who appreciate the fine art of cooking.

4. Hotel arts

Monaco's luxury hotels are not just places to stay; they are galleries of fine art. The Metropole Hotel Monte-Carlo recently acquired Picasso, Andy Warhol and Francis Bacon paintings for its lobby, elevating the guest experience to a new level of sophistication.

At the Hermitage Hotel Monte-Carlo, the Winter Garden's floral floor mosaic is a 19th century masterpiece, complemented by a breathtaking Eiffel glass roof. The lobby and dining room, with works by Gabriel Ferrier and ever-changing exhibitions offer a seamless blend of Belle Epoque heritage and modernity.

5. Art and the environment

Monaco's Oceanographic Museum stands at the intersection of sea and science, offering a unique exploration of marine life through the lens of art. This iconic institution reflects Monaco's commitment to both environmental sustainability and cultural preservation, making it a cornerstone of the Principality's artistic landscape.

6. Historical arts

Recent restorations at the Prince's Palace of Monaco have unveiled remarkable frescoes in the Gallery of Hercules, dating back to the 16th century. These newly discovered artworks depict mythological scenes with intricate detail, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the Grimaldi dynasty and adding to the Palace's historical significance.

7. Free arts

Monaco's dedication to making art accessible to all is evident in its public art installations. Casino Square, home to Anish Kapoor's Sky Mirror, is a focal point for modern art in the heart of Monaco. The Rainier III Sculpture Trail is another highlight, offering art lovers a chance to admire over 150 sculptures by renowned artists like Bourdelle, Leger, and Renoir. This trail covers the entire Principality, turning Monaco into an open-air museum.

8. Annual art festivals

Art Monte-Carlo, Monaco's premier annual art festival (July), brings together galleries and cultural institutions from across the globe. This vibrant event offers a rich program of exhibitions, talks, and tours, making it the perfect occasion for art lovers to immerse themselves in the Principality's dynamic art scene.

Complementing this, the UPAINT street art festival (June), now in its 8th year, attracts street artists from around the world who create stunning works that are auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (PA2F).

As Monaco continues to grow as a cultural hub, its influence on the global art scene remains undeniable. Whether through its rich history, its innovative approach to contemporary art, or its commitment to nurturing new talent, Monaco stands as a beacon for art and culture, inviting the world to experience its artistic legacy all year-round.

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge Makes a Positive Impact in the Search for Sustainable Solutions

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge
From 1 to 6 July 2024, Monaco will host the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. A motor boating event unique in the world, aiming for a sustainable future, thanks to alternative energies. Organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco, in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

This event brings key industry players together with young engineers to progress alternative propulsion and sustainability and attracts boats already on or about to enter the market and prototypes. Yacht Club de Monaco General Secretary Bernard d'Alessandri highlights the fact that “with all the research & development shared on open source together with challenges on the water, Tech Talks and a conference, this meeting supports the energy transition to build the future of yachting”.

First registrations approved to compete

Again this year, on the prototype side alongside the Solar and SeaLab categories, teams in the Energy Class are preparing to compete with their counterparts from all over the world. Twenty-one renowned universities have been selected for the 2024 edition, including the University of Cambridge in England, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Politecnico di Milano, Technical University of Berlin and many others, coming to demonstrate the potential of alternative propulsion. A total of 14 nations will be represented such as Canada, Croatia, Peru, Chili, China and Monaco.

Among these 21 teams using electric propulsion, there is a noticeable increase in the use of hydrogen for energy storage: nearly 50% of projects (ten) will showcase hybrid hydrogen technologies, with the remaining 11 opting for 100% lithium-ion battery energy storage.

A reminder that in 2023 the young Italian engineers from Uniboat won this category and will be keen to defend their title for the third year in a row. Launched in 2018 by Yacht Club de Monaco which supplies teams with a one design catamaran hull, the Energy Class calls on the ingenuity of participants who must design the cockpit and the most efficient and durable propulsion system, using alternative energies within a given quantity of energy (maximum 10kWh stored on board). New this year is that they are allowed to add foils.

Teams registering for the SeaLab and Solar categories will be confirmed on 29th March. Boats on the market coming to demonstrate their capabilities in the sea trials have until 15th May to declare their interest and register. For this 11th edition, supported by UBS, BMW, SBM Offshore and shipyards like Monaco Marine, Oceanco, Ferretti Group and San Lorenzo, 36 universities and nigh-on 20 electric boats already on the market are expected representing 27 nations, another record on the water with 55-plus zero-emission boats descending on the Principality in July.

Deploying innovation

This year for the first time we will see an Energy Class boat take flight. The prestigious University of Cambridge is making its debut with an ambitious project involving hydrofoils. Resembling small wings under the boat's hull, hydrofoils generate lift which results in the hull literally flying just above the water, significantly increasing the speeds obtainable in this class.

Other teams are working on developing their own propulsion system and bespoke control system. As for propellers, profiles tailored to each event thanks to 3D printing will be used.

For its fourth participation, ENSTA Paris is attempting to make a difference by equipping its prototype with three engines to improve their boat's manoeuvrability, inspired by differential propulsion systems found in some land vehicles and POD systems on boats.

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge
In terms of propulsion, several other teams, like the Hydros Team (Indonesia) and Sea Sakthi (India) will be testing IE5-rated equipment (highest energy efficiency level rating for electric motors) on their prototypes.

As for the ten teams working on hydrogen solutions this year, the trend is leaning towards using PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cells. These teams will be supplied with green hydrogen produced in the Principality, in collaboration with SBM Offshore.

A catalyst for innovative alternative propulsion systems, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, under the aegis of the collective 'Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting' approach, continues to chart a course towards a more sustainable future for the boating industry.

The Leading Hotels of the World : Life Below Water

Thanda Island, Tanzania
The Leading Hotels of the World has more than 400 hotels in over 80 countries, making it the largest collection of independent luxury hotels.

Oceans and seas cover 70 percent of our planet, and we rely on them for food, energy and water. It is vitally important to protect them by eliminating pollution and overfishing and to responsibly manage and to protect all marine life around the world.

Many of Leading Hotels of the World member properties are at the forefront of the Life Below Water conservation initiative, including :

The Kahala Resort, Hawaii

A team of dedicated volunteers and staff regularly remove invasive limu algae from the nearshore waters. This outcompetes native limu algae species altering the balance of the nearshore ecosystem. The hotel regularly hosts volunteer workdays where guests can help photograph and ID corals of opportunity, fragment them for out planting and assist with monitoring efforts.

Marbella Club, Spain

The Marbella Club helps local scientists monitor the effects of climate change on Spain’s two dwindling native seahorse populations. To help protect Andalucía as a destination, Marbella Club aims to better understand the unique behavioral ecology of Spain’s native seahorses. It also promotes the active restoration of their carbon sequestering and shallow seagrass meadow habitats and projects to help reinforce native seahorse populations.

Thanda Island, Tanzania

Home to five species of endangered and critically endangered sea turtles, Thanda Island has created an environment to preserve and populate each species. The property partners with the Tanzanian Marina Parks and Reserves on a range of marine conservation and educational programs including the Ropes of Hope restoration of the coral reef project.

Tortuga Bay, Dominican Republic

The property has introduced a coral restoration program in partnership with Grupo Puntacana. Fragments of coral are grown in underwater nurseries which provide a safe environment for the coral to flourish and then they are replanted back in the reef. Shungimbili Island coral reef.

Hotel Las Islas, Columbia
Hotel Las Islas, Columbia

Hotel Las Islas is surrounded by the Parque Nacional Natural Corals del Rosario y de San Bernardo, a largely underwater national park with 170 species of fish and the most vibrant coral reef in Columbia. With the help of the Malpelo Foundation and Conservation International, the hotel has taken on a coral conservation project which seeks to provide the necessary conditions for the coral to reproduce and thus form new reefs.

Nayara Resorts, Chile and Panama

Nayara Resorts coral restoration programme will help restore and revitalize their bay, and hopefully soon, the entire archipelago. In partnership with Caribbean Coral Restoration, the property has installed ten environmentally friendly fish habitats (artificial reef structures.) These structures are then seeded with genetically resilient coral for even faster growth and recovery. And while it’s still early, they have already seen a tremendous amount of marine life return to the bay.

Halekulani Okinawa, Japan

The Coral Nurturing program is a sustainable initiative dedicated to marine environment conservation and has been developed as part of a pledge by Onna Village and Halekulani to become a “Village of Coral.” Guests can participate in a programme that teaches them the significance and fragility of coral reefs, followed by the opportunity to participate in the seedling cultivation offshore. The property also supports the Honey Coral Project where honeybees are used to protect coral reefs from red soil erosion, one of Okinawa’s biggest environmental problems.

The Datai, Malaysia

The property works with the ‘Fish For The Future’ programme and has focused their efforts on the conservation of coral reefs and marine life. The first initiative was the insertion of five Artificial Reefs in Datai Bay; steel devices that provide a safe haven for fish to feed and populate as well as a settlement site for coral larvae and rehabilitated corals from their Coral Nursery.

Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, Monaco

In partnership with "Mr. Goodfish," the property works to conserve marine resources by making seasonal recommendations for marine species that aren't threatened by overfishing. The property also is hosting an ongoing event this year called The Sea is Green, where leaders in the sea conservation space will meet to discuss and share ways to protect sea life.

Le Sereno, St. Barthelemy
Le Sereno, St. Barthelemy

Located on the marine reserve of Grand Cul-de-Sac, a protected area for sea turtles and other marine life, Le Sereno is protected by a coral reef barrier, and in return, serves to protect the coral reefs. The property collaborates with the coral restoration and marine reserve of St Barth's to aid the coral and sea turtles in the area. www.globalgoals.org/goals/14- life-below-water/ and www.undp.org/ocean

A Green Shift: Monaco prepares for a Sustainable, Post-Pandemic Future

Whilst Monaco, like the rest of the world, has not been spared from the effects of Covid-19, the Principality makes sustainability core to the current health crisis and the recovery ahead.

On the occasion of the 50th World Earth Day, celebrated earlier this year, HSH Prince Albert II called for a new balance between man and nature stressing that “this crisis should prompt us into protecting our planet, its climate, biodiversity and oceans more effectively”.

In this context, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launched a digital campaign entitled “A green shift?” to reflect on post-pandemic environmental perspectives. The campaign features a series of short video interviews with personalities and scientists taking the floor to reflect on the link between the environment and the pandemic.

Amongst the experts sharing their points of view on this matter are Prof. Tim Flannery, Head of Australia's first Climate Change Commission and Board Member of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation as well as well-known personalities such as Robert Redford and Nico Rosberg. The series of “A green shift?” videos can be viewed here.

The foundation, which is dedicated to the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development on a global scale, recently organised the 2020 edition of the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health. The event, which was held on the terrace of the iconic Casino de Monte-Carlo, was devoted to the Oceans, Earth and Humanity and brought together global philanthropists and celebrities including Johnny Depp, Helen Mirren, Kate Beckinsale, Sienna Miller, and more - with COVID-19 protocols strictly enforced for the health and safety of all guests.

Monaco's inspiring sustainability ethos, driven by the Prince's government's goal to be carbon neutral by 2050, is reflected in many facets of the Principality's cultural and tourism offering.

The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco is currently paying tribute to the Great Barrier Reef with the unique, interactive exhibition, “IMMERSION”, an interactive multimedia installation that combines contemplation and interaction to engage and educate the public to better protect the marine world.

Monaco is home to the eco-responsible Grimaldi Forum, Monaco's Convention and Cultural Centre, and the Principality regularly hosts the hugely successful Monaco E-Prix and eRally. Green transport also plays a major role in daily life with all public vehicles being either electric, hybrid or bio-fuel.

Monaco's hotel industry is one of the most active sectors when it comes to protecting the environment. “Green Teams” have been formed within hotels to develop and implement concrete solutions to reduce their ecological footprint.

Local, sustainable food is the norm in the Principality which is home to Elsa Restaurant, the world's only Michelin-starred organic restaurant and Michelin-starred Blue Bay restaurant growing much of its produce in its onsite kitchen garden run by urban agriculturist start-up Terre de Monaco, to name only a few examples.

For the past few years, a new trend has been emerging: “Slow travel”, gently travelling, spending more time in a single destination, getting to know the local people and taking the time to discover the heritage...

Getting Around By Car
In Monaco, it is recommended to leave your vehicle in one of the numerous car parks . The Principality has 40 car parks with spaces for a total of 15,500 vehicles. All of them are underground and staffed by security guards, offering the best option for parking your vehicle. Although there is a charge for using most of the car parks in Monaco, they are a relatively easy and attractive solution. All of the “Monaco Parking” car parks offer one hour’s free parking.

Pictured is One Monte-Carlo, a hub for luxury brands
Monaco's internationally renowned setting is ready and waiting to welcome travellers back with their prestige and high-end tourism experiences. Discover what's happening in Monaco...

Even if overseas travel is on hold for you or your clients right now, the Visit Monaco team wants you to keep dreaming of your next trip to the Principality.

Time to start planning these five #monacomoments into your client’s next travel itinerary.

1: Indulge at the redeveloped One Monte-Carlo district
Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Valentino and Hermès – to name just a few! Haute couture, accessories, a hair spa, well-being… Beauty’s leading brands have taken up residence on a unique shopping promenade designed with public safety in mind. The experience continues in the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo’s jewelers’ courtyard. In this sublime open-roofed setting, Harry Winston, Graff and Stardust unveil their finest creations in all their sparkling glory. And just a few steps away, savour some delicious and sophisticated moments of well-being at the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo.

Plus, after all that shopping, indulge in a haute couture snack. There is always a reason to head to Mada One, whatever the time of day. The menu for this new concept-restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Marcel Ravin is sensitively devised, healthy, and, of course, delicious. Don’t miss out on the “rendez-vous du jeudi” session that runs from 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm, where you can try a signature cocktail along with some of the chef’s sweet and savory bites.

2: Discover two reinvented Monaco icons: The Casino Square & Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo
Monaco’s iconic Casino Square has just received a new look having been restored to its former glory while providing a new, more spacious and safer place to meet. Keeping up with initiatives in large cities around the world while retaining its own unique characteristics, the new Place du Casino is structured around three objectives:
  • to give pedestrians priority and allow people to stroll around in complete serenity
  • to preserve the race course of the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix
  • to please the Monte-Carlo Société de Bains de Mer Group’s VIP customers, whose vehicles, which are often exceptional, can be parked in the square, arousing the admiration of passers-by.

We suggest you also take this as an opportunity to discover the all-new Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s most iconic 5-star hotel, that completed a 4-year multi-million dollar renovation program last year with additions and enhancements including the opening of ÔMER, a new concept by Alain Ducasse, a lush new wellness area and the addition of the exceptional suites: Princess Grace Suite and Prince Rainier III Suite, the latter being the largest suite in the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo and has more indoor space than any other room with two bedrooms and the possibility to extend to 600 square metres with a third adjoining room-all of which overlooks Monaco’s Place du Casino.

3: Grand Prix
In 2021, you can experience not one Grand Prix, but three! After the cancellation of the 2020 Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 2020 Monaco Historic Grand Prix due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) has decided that it will exceptionally organise three Grand Prix in 2021, in the space of one month.

The year 2021 will be exceptional since past, present and future will be defined in three prestigious events in the streets of the Principality: the Monaco Historic Grand Prix (23-25 April 2021) will be followed by the Monaco E-Prix (8th May 2021), and the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix (20-23 May 2021).

4: Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo
Delve into the luxurious world of the 5-star Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo, its recently revamped Carré d’Or Suite is a symbol of luxury and charm, which offers a unique accommodation experience. Located on the top floor of the hotel, the exceptional 150 sq. meter apartment composes a spacious living room, large bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and voluminous marble and gold bathroom. An amazing 110 sq. meter terrace offers unrivalled views of the Casino de Monte-Carlo, its gardens and the Mediterranean Sea.

Or explore ‘Odyssey’ the hotel’s exceptional pool area imagined and designed by Karl Lagerfeld with a garden, pool and lounge bar, Odyssey is an oasis of relaxation and well-being nestled in the heart of Monte-Carlo.

5: “IMMERSION” at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco
Whilst Monaco is dearly missing its Australian visitors, Australia will be more present than ever in the Principality this summer thanks to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco who will host an interactive exhibition dedicated to the magnificence of the Great Barrier Reef.

The unique exhibition, “IMMERSION” will reveal one of the 7 natural wonders of the world through a multimedia installation which offers visitors the opportunity to experience a dive below the surface in order to meet the iconic species that inhabit the planet’s largest coral ecosystem. This immersive experience, combining contemplation and interaction, engages and educates the public to better protect the marine world.
