Mt Buller resort is celebrating the 2017 snow season this Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Traditionally known as the ‘opening weekend’ Mt Buller skiers have already been on the slopes for a whole week enjoying the good half-metre snow cover on the resort’s main run.

The resort is bustling for the long weekend, with a clear and sunny forecast providing perfect conditions for stunning ski days and fireworks under the full moon.

“This long weekend will be a true celebration of the early start to the ski season and the snowmaking investment Mt Buller has made this year. It’s been terrific to have guests skiing and boarding on Bourke Street since last Friday night on a good cover and we are looking forward to getting into more terrain as soon as we can,” said Laurie Blampied General Manager Buller Ski Lifts.

“We’ll enjoy a special night of Twilight skiing this Saturday night complete with fireworks and our new lighting on Bourke Street – it’s a great way to spend the long weekend!”

The weekend schedule is packed with activities and live entertainment in the Village Square kicking off Saturday afternoon. Guests will enjoy complimentary hot chocolate, gluhwein, roasted chestnuts and marshmallows; as well as an impressive line-up of entertainment from face painting to fire twirling, live music to fireworks, and special appearances by winter Olympians and the excitable sled dog huskies. Discounted early season ski passes are also proving popular.

Gillian Dobson, Group Manager of Marketing, Sales and Events for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management said, “Having opened a whole week ahead of the ‘official’ weekend celebrations, Mt Buller resort is buzzing. We’ve got a bumper line up for the long weekend, and to be skiing and boarding from the start of winter has everyone smiling.”

Mt Buller made a $1.6m investment in their snowmaking capabilities with the installation of the TechnoAlpin Snowfactory this year which has allowed the resort to guarantee skiing under the new floodlights from the start of the season.

Mt Buller is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne and will welcome thousands of snow revellers this weekend. The snow season officially runs until the end of September.
