Vietjet reaches agreement to enhance air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos

Vietjet
Vietjet and Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos announced an agreement to boost air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos. The announcement ceremony takes place in Vientiane with the witness of Vietnam’s President To Lam, Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, and high-ranking dignitaries of both countries.

Vietjet will collaborate with the Department of Civil Aviation of Laos to implement aviation-related projects and further expand air transport activities in Laos, which is expected to create up to 2,500 new jobs in the aviation sector. The airline also plans to establish its own Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) facilities in Laos with Vietjet Aviation Academy to oversee the training of the new workforce following international aviation standards. In return, as the airline’s partner, the Department of Civil Aviation of Laos will provide administrative, legal, and facility support, and coordination with other agencies to facilitate the projects’ execution.

Vietjet's commitment to expanding air connectivity in Laos will bring affordable flight options and quality air services to Laotian and international tourists visiting the country. These initiatives are set to drive economic and social development, enhance trade, tourism connectivity, and cultural exchange among Laos and the regional neighbors.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos highly appreciates the contributions and capabilities of Vietjet, an international airline with fast-growing flight network. The agreement announced today also aligns with the mutual goals and directions set by the governments of both countries in the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in Transport between the Governments of Vietnam and Laos for the period 2016 – 2025.

In 2023, Vietjet launched a regional state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance center in the cooperation with Lao Airlines. Earlier this year, the airline inaugurated its first route between Vietnam and Laos, linking Ho Chi Minh City with Vientiane. The air service has offered more convenient and diversified travel choices to flyers between the two countries and for further connection to Australia, India, South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and beyond.

Vietnam is currently one of Laos’ largest investors and trading partners, with 255 active investment projects in Laos totaling US$5.5 billion. The projects focus on the industries of transport, tourism, and science and technology, etc, which promotes trade exchanges, sustainable development and shared prosperity of Laos, Vietnam and the region.

The partnership strengthens Vietjet's network within Laos and enhances connectivity for travellers across the region, facilitating smoother travel for tourists and business travellers. It improves access between Vietnam and Laos, allowing travellers from Australia to easily reach Laos and explore the broader region where Vietjet operates. This integrated network supports Vietjet's mission to provide affordable, high-quality air travel and fosters greater economic and cultural ties among countries in the region.

Vietjet Officially Kicks Off Melbourne-Hanoi Route

Vietjet’s inaugural flight from Hanoi, Vietnam, to Melbourne, Australia, landed on 4 June at the Melbourne Airport. The official launch ceremony was attended by The Hon. Natalie Hutchins, Member of the Victorian Parliament, Minister for Jobs and Industry, Minister for Women, Minister for Treaty and First Peoples of Victoria, Melbourne International Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos, and Vietjet Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Ha and Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh.

Melbourne – Hanoi is Vietjet’s sixth route connecting Vietnam and Australia. With two round trips every Tuesday and Saturday using modern wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft, Vietjet continues to facilitate travel between Australia and Hanoi more conveniently than ever before.

Vietjet offers a premium Business Class with an exclusive check-in line, priority lanes, business lounges, an authentic hot and fresh dishes served throughout the flights, and up to 60kg of checked baggage plus a golf set, a private cabin and 180-degree flatbed seats. Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said, “Since Vietjet’s first flight to Australia in April 2023, we have continuously expanded our network connecting the five largest cities in Australia: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide with Ho Chi Minh City. The Melbourne – Hanoi route launched today further proves our commitment to development by continuing to expand our network and providing quality services between Australia and Vietnam, meeting the demand of locals and tourists. With this new route, we believe Vietjet will further grow in the Australian market. We are proud to launch this new route and hope to bring opportunities for Victoria tourists to explore Vietnam and all destinations on our network with 168 routes across Vietnam and internationally.”

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said the Vietnamese market growth had been one of the silver linings coming out of the pandemic.

“The huge growth in the Vietnamese market has been made possible by new air services agreements negotiated by the federal government that have provided capacity ahead of demand,” he said.

“The increased competition and capacity in the market delivers benefits to passengers in the form of cheaper fares, but also provides exporters with access to high value markets. Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in the region and a key trading partner with Australia, here at Melbourne Airport Vietnam sits in our top ten export market with almost three million tonnes of local products being loaded onto aircraft during the last twelve months.”

“VietJet’s Hanoi service will complement its current five times a week service to Ho Chi Minh City and will give Victorians new connections into countries as well as other Asian destinations. We know there will be two-way demand for this service, Vietnam is in our top ten outbound destinations, meanwhile the inbound market is supported by strong trade, business and leisure demand,” he added.

The Melbourne—Hanoi route is expected to attract investment and boost demand for tourism, overseas study, family visits, and work opportunities in Victoria. It will contribute to the state’s goal of tourism recovery to pre-pandemic levels by 2025 and achieve the targeted tourism revenue of USD 53 billion and tourist arrivals of 111.8 million by 2028 .

Vietjet will launch the Sydney—Hanoi route on 8 June 2024, following the Melbourne—Hanoi route. Vietjet currently operates 58 weekly flights connecting Australia and Vietnam.

Additionally, passengers flying with Vietjet this summer can earn points and redeem rewards with the Vietjet SkyJoy loyalty program and participate in lucky draws.

Vietjet reports outstanding performance in Q1/2024, setting growth in motion

Vietjet
Overcoming the aviation industry's challenging aircraft shortages, Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (HOSE: VJC) reported outstanding business performances in Q1/2024, providing a strong boost for the entire year.

In Q1/2024, Vietjet's air transport revenue was recorded at VND17.76 trillion (approx. US$701.13 million), while after-tax profit was at VND520 billion (approx. US$20.5 million), increasing by 38% and 209% YoY, respectively.

The airline's consolidated revenue and after-tax profit were VND17.79 trillion (approx. US$702.39 million) and VND539 billion (approx. US$21.27 million), respectively, growing by 38% and 212% YoY in the given order.

Vietjet's performance in Q1/2024 follows its outstanding business performance in 2023, which saw the company achieve a separate and consolidated revenue of VND53.7 trillion (approx. US$2.16 billion) and VND58.3 trillion (approx. US$2.35 billion), respectively.

During the first three months of the year, Vietjet safely operated nearly 34,500 flights with more than 6.3 million passengers onboard. The airline's average load factor rate reached 87%, and the technical reliability rate was 99.6%. This reflects the impressive performance of the company in FY 2023, with Vietjet safely operating 133,000 flights with 25.3 million passengers onboard – a surge of 183% YoY, of whom more than 7.6 million were flying internationally.

Advancing its strategy to expand internationally, Vietjet's international passenger transport in Q1/2024 has witnessed growth of more than 53% and 61% YoY in terms of the number of flights and passengers, respectively.

The airline has launched 15 new international and domestic routes over the span of three months, raising its total operating routes to 140. The latest international ones announced and launched include Phu Quoc – Taipei (Taiwan, China), Ho Chi Minh City – Chengdu/Xi'an (China) and Vientiane (Laos) in addition to Hanoi to Hiroshima (Japan) and Sydney/Melbourne (Australia).

This rapid network expansion was made possible by Vietjet's expansive modern, safe and eco-friendly fleet, which consists of 105 aircraft, including the wide-body A330s, since 31 December 2023, helping optimise resources, save fuel and achieve long-term sustainable development (ESG) goals.

Despite the challenges faced by the aviation industry due to aircraft shortages, Vietjet has risen above them with remarkable achievements, maintaining its development momentum from 2023 and continuing to pioneer the opening of new international routes, setting solid growth for the entire year.

As of 31 March 2024, Vietjet's total assets totalled more than VND85.82 trillion (approx. US$3.38 billion). The company's debt-to-equity ratio was 1.9, while the liquidity ratio was 1.3, both within the aviation industry's good ranges.

The airline paid up to VND1.77 trillion (approx. US$ 69.87 million) in direct and indirect taxes and fees in Q1/2024.

Vietjet, beyond connecting Vietnam to the world through its flight network, is also bringing itself closer to the global stage through international research and technology investment projects.

The airline places special emphasis on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, including achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Starting the journey of reducing CO2 emissions over 10 years ago, by 2023, Vietjet's aircraft fleet has grown significantly, making a crucial contribution to the company's success by optimising resources, saving fuel by up to 15-20% while protecting the environment and developing sustainably through green technology research. Additionally, for every ticket sold, Vietjet contributes VND5,000 to the Fly Green fund, which supports environmental protection initiatives and the development of green technologies.

ESG will continue to be the airline's strategic goal in the long term. It also plays a key role in Vietjet's success by helping optimise resources, save fuel, and reduce CO2 emissions through its new and modern fleet.

Building on its growth momentum since the beginning of the year, Vietjet has set ambitious targets for the coming quarters and throughout 2024. The airline, as announced in its recent General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) 2024, is eyeing air transport revenue and consolidated revenue to surpass VND59,000 billion (approx. US$2.32 billion) and VND65,500 billion (approx. US$2.57 billion) respectively, increasing by 10% and 12.4% YoY in the given order.

In addition to maintaining its domestic market presence, the airline aims to expand its international flight network even further, with plans to operate 142,000 flights and transport 27.4 million passengers in 2024.

Vietjet and Airbus announce the order for 20 widebody A330neo at Singapore Airshow

Vietjet and Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the order of 20 A330neo (A330-900) widebodies.

The new order marks one of the largest deals at the ongoing Singapore Airshow 2024 and Vietjet’s largest widebody purchase so far. The aircraft will be operated on the carrier’s growing long range network, as well as on high capacity regional services. They will replace the carrier’s current fleet of leased A330-300s, as well as enable network expansion.

Vietjet has been rapidly expanding, with one of its most notable expansions taking place in Australia in 2023. It entered the market in April of that year with its Sydney and Melbourne routes, and by the end of the year, it had added three more routes – Adelaide, Brisbane, and Perth – with a total of 58 flights per week.

“We are excited to work with Vietjet on the next phase of the carrier's expansion,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of the Commercial Aircraft Business of Airbus. “The A330neo will enable the airline to achieve the lowest possible operating costs per seat and to continue to offer its customers the best possible value wherever they fly. It will also be the perfect complement to the A321XLRs already on order with the airline, as it spreads its wings to more far-flung destinations.”

Vietjet Chief Executive Officer Dinh Viet Phuong said: "The new A330neo aircraft is a strategic addition to comprehensively modernize Vietjet's fleet, enhancing operational capabilities to support our global flight network expansion plan. Its fuel-efficient new-generation design aligns with our sustainable development strategy and ESG goals, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. With the introduction of the A330neo, passengers can look forward to longer-range, well-equipped flights with excellent services at more competitive fares."

The A330neo features the award-winning Airspace cabin, which offers passengers a unique passenger experience, high level of comfort, ambience, and design. This includes more individual space, enlarged overhead bins, a new lighting system and access to the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.

Powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 is capable of flying 7,200 nm/13,300 km non-stop. At the end of January 2024, the A330 Family had accumulated 1,771 firm orders from more than 130 customers worldwide.

With a fleet of over 105 aircraft and constantly growing passenger volume, Vietjet is actively expanding its intercontinental flight network, developing new and modern fleets in collaboration with global strategic partners such as Airbus.
