1) GLORIA MOLINA GRAND PARK

Grand Park is an urban oasis that stretches from Grand Avenue at the Music Center to Spring Street at City Hall. Since its opening in 2012, Grand Park has become a popular gathering spot for community events, cultural experiences, festivals and holiday celebrations. The 12-acre park has four distinct areas, featuring the restored Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain, an intimate performance lawn, a community terrace, and a grand event lawn. Visitors can bring their own picnic or purchase food and beverages on site. Selected events will invite food trucks and other food vendors. The park is open to the public daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

2) EXPOSITION PARK

3) ELYSIAN PARK

Known for being L.A.’s oldest public park, the 575-acre Elysian Park offers a surprising getaway in the heart of the city, with stunning views from Dodger Stadium and Downtown L.A. to the Hollywood Hills and the Valley. The popular Portola Trail is named for Don Gaspar de Portola, the Spanish soldier, explorer and founder of San Diego and Monterey. The historical marker at the trailhead commemorates the site where Portola camped near the Los Angeles River. A highlight of this hike is Angel’s Point and the Grace E. Simons Memorial Sculpture, named for the activist who worked to protect Elysian Park from developers. Elysian Park hosted the shooting part of the Modern Pentathlon at the 1932 Summer Olympics - today, early morning visitors might hear gunshots ringing from officers training at the adjacent Police Academy.

Located next to the Chinatown Station of the Metro L Line (Gold), the 32-acre Los Angeles State Historic Park reopened on Earth Day 2017 after three years of renovations. Built on the former site of Union Pacific Rail Yard, L.A. State Historic Park (aka "the Cornfield") is a testament to the power of community - home to grassland, orange trees, public art and a mile-long run/walk trail in a spot that almost became a collection of warehouses before locals rallied to stop the development. There's a lot to see at LASHP, from the public art to the pavers that go back to the land's life as a rail yard and small dugouts filled with rocks and plants that collect rain water. The view of the Downtown L.A. skyscrapers becomes all the more beautiful from the top of a small bridge in the center of the park.

Middle East consumers willing to pay more for sustainable, authentic luxury excursions and accommodation, as industry prepares for ATM 2023

  • One in 10 global travellers stayed in a luxury eco-friendly hotel in last three years
  • 61% of UAE residents willing to pay more for sustainable travel experiences
  • Luxury travel event ILTM Arabia to run during days two and three of ATM 2023

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 11 April 2023: Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration within the Middle East’s luxury travel sector, especially in the UAE where 61% of residents say they are willing to pay a premium for more responsible, eco-friendly and sustainable tourism experiences. Trends and opportunities within the high-end travel segment will represent key focuses throughout the 30th edition of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), which will run from 1-4 May 2023 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

According to YouGov’s Global Travel & Tourism Whitepaper 2023: Luxury travel post-pandemic, one in 10 consumers has stayed in luxury eco-friendly accommodation during the past three years. This trend is especially prevalent among high-income travellers, whose sustainable luxury hotel stays have increased by 50% during the same period.

The UAE topped global rankings in terms of the value placed on exploring, with almost two-thirds (58%) of respondents reporting that travel has become more important to them since the Covid-19 pandemic. In terms of luxury travel priorities, a quarter of those living in the Emirates are looking for great entertainment, whereas 19% place the biggest emphasis on premium-quality accommodation when booking trips. Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, said: “The Middle East has developed an unparalleled international reputation for luxury tourism, with consumers across the region placing a high value on bespoke, memorable and environmentally responsible experiences. This is especially pertinent given ATM 2023’s theme, ‘Working

Towards Net Zero’. Industry leaders will be showcasing the innovative ways in which they are delivering luxury, sustainable travel experiences across the Gulf and beyond.”

In addition to sustainable luxury travel, consumers’ appetite for authentic excursions is also on the rise within this segment. Over half (51%) of affluent tourists have sought more meaningful travel experiences since the pandemic, and more than a quarter (27%) are willing to pay extra for secluded villas and chalets. These figures coincide with growth across the Gulf’s travel industry. By 2028, the value of the UAE’s outbound sector is set to reach $30.5 billion, Saudi Arabia is on course to hit $27 billion, Kuwait is expected to grow to $17 billion, and Qatar is likely to exceed $13 billion.

Premium travel will be placed under the microscope at ATM 2023, as high-profile names from across the sector gather in Dubai to discuss luxury-related trends, challenges and opportunities during the session entitled, Sustainable Luxury: At What Cost?. Moderated by Joe Mortimer, Editor-at-Large at Destinations of the World News, speakers including Amir Golbarg, Senior Vice President Operations – Middle East & Africa at Minor Hotels; Candice D’Cruz, VP Luxury Brands at Marriott International; and Nadia Ibrahim, Member of the Board of Directors at the UN Global Compact, will discuss a range of industry-critical topics, such as the environmental impact of luxury hospitality and the most effective methods of carbon offsetting. ATM 2023 will also see the return of International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) Arabia 2023, a luxury-focused event dedicated to high-end destinations, premium accommodation and bespoke tourism experiences, which will run on days two and three of the show. The upcoming edition of ILTM Arabia will deliver extensive networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities to participants, as 44 exhibitors engage with a select group of buyers catering to high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) across the GCC and broader region.

providing a platform for regional experts to explore a sustainable future ahead of COP28, which will take place in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai. The conference will also feature a sustainability category at its annual exhibitor awards for the first time. Exhibiting organisations will be recognised based on the extent to which they have considered the environmental impact of their stands, as well as their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

Vancouver Leads Canada and North America in KAYAK’s 2023 City Index for Mindful Travellers

Vancouver, BC claimed the top spot in Canada and North America in travel website KAYAK’s 2023 City Index for Mindful Travellers!

Twenty-eight factors were used to rank 167 cities worldwide, including sustainability, a destination’s popularity,
accommodation, transportation, air quality and cost. 

The selected cities are good choices for people who want to reduce their impact on the environment while travelling. 

Other Canadian cities that made the list are Halifax, Nova Scotia; Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; and Victoria, BC, among others.

NEWCASTLE AIRPORT EXPANSION

Newcastle Airport's expansion plans have been boosted by a $240 million Commonwealth Bank investment. 

The funding will enhance domestic capacity and develop a new international terminal. Newcastle Airport is the second busiest airport in NSW, generating around $1.2 billion in economic activity a year and supporting around 5600 jobs. 

It currently services 12 domestic routes with six domestic airlines, catering for around 1.3 million passengers a year. 

Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr Peter Cock welcomes the partnership, highlighting the benefits this expansion has for the region.

“Driving greater economic and social benefits by broadening our domestic and international destinations and contributing to Newcastle’s transformation from a major regional hub into an international destination and a significant second international gateway to NSW, is key to our purpose.”

“We also thank the Federal Government for investing a total of $121 million in our region’s international growth.”

“Servicing Defence and defence industry participants are both vital to Australia and benefits the regional economy. Astra Aerolab has strong leasing interest and a number of buildings poised to start coming out of the ground. CBA’s funding partnership will help us accelerate this activity to meet client demands.”

Dr Cock said Newcastle Airport was committed to reducing its environmental footprint across the airport, with the expanded terminal building being designed and built to target a 5-star Green Star rating accreditation, the under construction solar-powered covered car park powering more than 30% of the airport and with the first Astra Aerolab commercial office building also registered for a 5-star Green Star rating accreditation.

The second busiest airport in NSW, Newcastle Airport generates around $1.2 billion in economic activity a year and supports around 5600 jobs. It currently services 12 domestic routes with six domestic airlines, catering for around 1.3 million passengers a year.

The expansion of Newcastle Airport will facilitate the introduction of new domestic and international routes and address capacity for forecast growth to around 2.3 million passengers a year by fiscal 2028.

Royal Dishes – Eat like a Royal

Contemporary British cuisine is now internationally renowned with an ever growing roster of top chefs, restaurants, quirky cafes, themed dining, alternative afternoon teas and signature dishes that include those that were created to mark royal occasions. Royal Warrant holders include a range of British produce, food and wine which grace the plates of the royal family and are available to visitors to sample dishes and enjoy food and wine experiences throughout the year. Platinum Pudding

A Lemon Swiss Roll and Amaretti trifle was crowned as the winner of the Platinum Pudding competition in 2022. Hailing from Jemma in Southport, the trifle is a celebratory treat and consists of a swiss roll with lemon curd and St Clement’s jelly, and amaretti biscuits paired with custard, mandarin coulis and chocolate bark to top it off. Victoria Sponge

The Victoria Sponge was named after Queen Victoria, who regularly like a slice of sponge cake with her afternoon tea. Victoria Sponge is served up for royal occasions and often included for afternoon teas across Britain. Buckingham Palace Pastry Chefs have shared this traditional recipe.

Coronation Chicken

Created by Le Cordon Bleu Chef Rosemary Hume to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation lunch in 1953, it’s a quintessential British classic to add to any picnic, it can spice up a simple salad or work as a delicious sandwich filling. Celebrating international links it combines chicken with a hint of curry flavouring.

Inverlochy Castle, Fort William, Scotland

The 19th-century castle in the Scottish Highlands once received high praise from Queen Victoria, who spent a week at Inverlochy in 1873 while on a trip to Balmoral and declared that “I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot”. Undercroft Café, Windsor Castle, Berkshire

The Undercroft Café is one of the oldest surviving spaces of the 1000-year-old castle, and was originally used as a cellar to store beer and wine.

Biking and cycling in Quito, Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador's capital, is located at an altitude of 2,850m in the Andean foothills. Quito is in the heart of the Andes, blessed by a spring climate all year round.

Constructed on the foundations of an ancient Incan city, it’s known for its well-preserved colonial center, rich with 16th- and 17thcentury churches and other structures blending European, Moorish and indigenous styles. 

Mountain biking and cycling in the self-styled Capital of the Centre of the World allows visitors with an adventurous spirit to connect their nature. 

Quito has cycle routes through rivers, waterfalls and forests, with different levels of difficulty, from the easiest for novice cyclists to real challenges for the more experienced mountain bikers. 

El Chaquiñán Route 

The El Chaquiñán cycle route passes through Cumbayá, Tumbaco and Puembo and crosses a stretch of the old railway. 

It is a simple path which does not present great difficulties and is recommended for cyclists with previous experience in routes of at least two hours of cycling. 

Ruta Lloa a Palmira 

The path from Lloa a Palmira has short elevations and gentle descents and offers natural viewpoints including the Guagua Pichincha and Atacazo volcanoes.

Mirador del Pululahua 

The Mirador del Pululahua descends into the heart of one of the few inhabited craters in the world, with its dramatic descents forming the backdrop to many cycle races. 

Ruta Pacto, Mashpi 

In the parish of Pacto, 70 km from the capital, there are wide paths surrounded by mountains, with this route crossing a large part of the Conservation and Sustainable Use Area of MashpiGuaycuyacu-Sahuangal Protected Natural Area 

Ruta Nono, Alaspungo 

This is a 13 km stretch of less travelled paths and prolonged ascents with views of the Rucu and Guagua Pichincha volcanoes 

Quito 

Quito is the closest city to the sun and the only place where it is possible to stand with one foot in each hemisphere. 

This city, declared the First Cultural Heritage of Humanity thanks to its Historic centre is the start of the Avenue of Volcanoes and offers the chance to visit the Andean Chocó, home to the spectacled bear and thousands of bird species.

Conference for responsible and conscious travel in Cambodia

On Wednesday, March 22nd 2023, the Cambodian Ministry of Environment, All Dreams Cambodia, and Teuk Saat 1001 organized a press conference to enhance a more conscious travel experience; they explained how All Dreams Cambodia is working on calculating, reducing and compensating its carbon footprint and its clients one to encourage the tourism industry in Cambodia into a more sustainable sector and join the battle against climate change.

As the conference took place during World Water Day, they honoured the achievements made so far by Teuk Saat 1001 in the access to safe drinking water in rural Cambodia and the contribution made by All Dreams Cambodia to reduce the impact of Climate Change.

Teuk Saat 1001 mission’, as a Cambodian NGO, is to improve the health and livelihoods of rural communities by establishing a decentralized communal-based solution called water kiosks providing safe and affordable drinking water. The water kiosk model, in operation since 2005, non-only strengthens access to safe water in rural Cambodia but is also proven to reduce Co2 emissions since around 17000t are avoided yearly. The drinking water production process, combined with the delivery of water jugs at home, allows Teuk Saat 1001 to be eligible for carbon finance. Indeed, since the beneficiaries receive water at home, they don’t have to boil it with charcoal or wood to make it safe for consumption.

Teuk Saat 1001 is proud to be among the few organizations emitting carbon credit globally from and for a Cambodian project since 2017.

INDIAN POPULATION OVERTAKES CHINA

India has overtaken China as the most populated country in the world according to a MarketWatch projection based on the United Nations’ World Population Prospects report. 

It shows India’s population has 1,425,782,975, while China's has fallen to 1,425,748,032. India was the fourth largest source country for visitor arrivals to Australia in 2022.

China had been the world’s most populous country since at least 1950, when the UN started releasing population data.

The 30th edition of the show will host over 2,000 exhibitors, representatives from more than 150 countries and an anticipated 34,000 attendees.

Taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) in collaboration with the emirate’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), this year’s conference will once again form a central component of the UAE’s annual Arabian Travel Week.

In line with its theme, ‘Working Towards Net Zero’, ATM 2023 will provide a forum in which participants can forge new connections, share knowledge and showcase innovations with the potential to expedite the global travel sector’s journey towards decarbonisation. Vasyl Zhygalo, Managing Director of RX Middle East and Portfolio Director of WTM, IBTM and RX, said: “Following the very successful WTM Africa and WTM Latin America earlier this spring it is great to now see the international travel community engage with Arabian Travel Market. Exhibitor participation in ATM 2023 has risen by 27% compared to last year’s event, with growth registered across all show sectors. These include regional upticks for the Middle East, representation for which will be 24% larger than in 2022, Europe (17% larger), Asia (15% larger) and Africa (8.5% larger). The event’s Travel Tech and hotels sectors have also witnessed sizeable year-on-year growth, expanding by 62% and 37.5%, respectively.

Chinese exhibitors and travel professionals are making a welcome return to ATM 2023, after the country lifted its Covid-related travel restrictions earlier this year. China became the world’s top source market in 2019, with 155 million tourists spending more than $250 billion overseas, and CNN predicts the nation’s outbound market will recover to around six million travellers per month by the summer of 2023.

Southeast Asia and India will feature prominently at this year’s event too. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Indian nationals spent a record $10 billion on overseas travel during the first nine months of 2022, an increase of nearly 43% compared to pre-Covid figures. Other estimates indicate the number of annual outbound journeys will reach more than 27 million by 2024, with a total value of over $42 billion.

Saudi Arabia will have a considerable presence at ATM 2023. The Kingdom registered more international arrivals than any other Arab nation during the first nine months of last year, welcoming more than 18 million visitors during this period, according to government data. Tourism spending in KSA hit $7.2bn in H1 2022.

To mark its 30th edition, ATM will be unveiling a dedicated sustainability pledge that has been designed to reinforce RX’s commitment to the delivery of sustainable events through the use of environmentally friendly materials, the elimination of single-use plastics and

other forward-thinking initiatives. In addition to setting out the show’s journey towards net zero, this pledge will be accompanied by a new playbook, which offers participants a framework within which to mitigate their environmental impact before, during and after the event. His Excellency, Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, commented: “It is indeed fitting that this year’s ATM theme focusses on sustainability to build a better future for tourism. For us, this theme assumes even greater significance as 2023 is UAE’s Year of Sustainability and Dubai will be hosting COP28, the UN Climate Change Conference. Dubai has made significant strides in this area, with strategies to reduce carbon footprint and create a more environmentally conscious tourism industry, aligned with the ambition of our visionary leadership to make Dubai the best city in the world to visit, live, and work in. This year’s show will also feature the inaugural ‘ATM Sustainable Stand Award’, the results of which will be announced as part of the ATM 2023 Best Stand Awards. Entries will be judged according to an extensive range of sustainable criteria, including supplier choice, material usage, operational efficiency, and even what will happen to stands once the exhibition has concluded.

In addition to sustainability, the ATM Global Stage will host a variety of sessions focused on pivotal industry issues, including, but not limited to: hotels and hospitality; aviation and transport; meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE); business travel; investment; responsible tourism; workforce diversification; and emerging segments such as attractions, cruises, wellness and cultural tourism.

The upcoming edition will see the return of the ATM Travel Tech Stage, which will host discussions on how factors such as artificial intelligence, the metaverse, cryptocurrency and big data are impacting the travel sector, while showcasing cutting-edge innovations and solutions with the potential to drive the next generation of sustainable tourism.

ATM 2023 will also feature a Sustainability Hub for the first time in the show’s history. This space will offer a venue for sessions dedicated to the latest sustainable travel trends and innovations, while providing the backdrop for the ATM 2023 Start-up Competition – an event hosted by conference partner Plug and Play, which will see entrepreneurs go head-to-head in a ‘Sustainable Tech Pitch Battle’.

This year’s show will see the return of International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) Arabia, which will explore trends and opportunities within the burgeoning field of high-end tourism.

In terms of luxury travel priorities, 25% of those living in the UAE are looking for great entertainment, whereas 19% place the biggest emphasis on premium-quality accommodation when booking trips, according to market research published by YouGov.

There will also be sessions from the International Tourism & Investment Conference (ITIC), the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA).

Since the 1970s, Glenwood Hot Springs Pool has been adding the extra British thermal units (BTUs) generated by the geothermal water to good use in pre heating domestic water supplies and warming decks, sidewalks and rooflines to keep them snow-free in winter. Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel Announce New Multi-Year Resident Show Coming to Hawaii

Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group broke the news last night that they have teamed up to bring Honolulu residents and visitors a bespoke new multi-year resident show, exclusive to Hawaii. Executives from both organisations were joined by Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi to make the exciting announcement.

Anticipated to open in late 2024, the show will fuse the world-renowned acrobatics and innovation that Cirque du Soleil is known for with the natural beauty and unique culture of the islands. Native Hawaiian Aaron J. Salā, PhD has been retained as the creative cultural producer to assist in creating this show’s storyline along with other prominent Hawaiian artists, musicians and dancers.

A joint venture is being made by both parties to create this opportunity and transform the 20,000 sq. ft. showroom venue at Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel, previously used by Magic of Polynesia. The necessary permits for renovation work to commence and create the nearly 800-seat theater with state-of-the-art audio-visual system are now in the process of being submitted. The venue architect is Hawaii-based G70 with project estimating done by RLB in Honolulu.

“Cirque du Soleil is an iconic company at the apex of entertainment; we are confident that the show created for Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel will delight and astound our guests and residents. This collaboration with Cirque was years in the making and perfectly aligns with Outrigger’s brand elevation strategy, which includes a promise to provide authentic live music and signature experiences in renowned beach locations,” said Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of Outrigger Hospitality Group.

“We are thrilled to partner with a company as prominent as Outrigger to bring a brand new world-class immersive experience to life in Honolulu,” said Eric Grilly, Cirque du Soleil president of resident and affiliate shows. “We look forward to having a new home in Hawaii and drawing on the rich culture of the islands as inspiration for the show.”

“In addition to bringing new vibrancy to Waikīkī, this project will produce significant economic impact through job creations in redeveloping the theater space and ongoing show operations; I’m honored and excited to welcome Cirque du Soleil as the newest Honolulu resident,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi.

Cirque du Soleil now has 4,000 employees from 80 nationalities that contribute to 32 shows presented around the world and 9.5 million tickets are sold annually.

More details will be shared in the coming months regarding the partnership, the show’s name and creative concept as well as on-sale dates, with a target of December 2024 for the show’s debut.

Global travel industry to arrive on the Gold Coast

The tourism industry's premier event, the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), is just hours away from kicking off formalities, with pre-event familiarisations already underway across the state. Delivered by Tourism Australia in partnership with TEQ and supported by Destination Gold Coast, around 2,500 delegates from 30 countries across the globe will be on the Gold Coast to take part in approximately 38,000 one-on-one business appointments.

The official media program begins this weekend, welcoming one of the largest contingents of media in ATE’s history and the largest post-COVID-19 travel media program staged in Australia. That will be followed by the trade program which begins Monday, running through to Thursday.

As usual, Queensland is bringing the largest contingent of any state or territory and TEQ's Queensland stand will bring to life all of the state's unique tourism experiences. TEQ also has significant activities planned to make the most of the opportunity to showcase everything about Queensland. In what is believed to be an ATE first, TEQ's stand has been confirmed by EarthCheck for 'Responsible Event Activation' based on sustainability criteria and has also been designed in consultation with Get Skilled Access to ensure it is accessible for all.

ATE is the industry's premier opportunity through hundreds of business meetings to contract products for inclusion in holiday packages sold overseas, setting up a longer-term pipeline of international visitors in coming years.

Unmissable self-guided walking routes

Immerse yourself into a journey of historic London with these three easy-to-navigate walking tours.

Royal London (approximately five miles / 8km)

Start at Westminster Abbey- the setting for 16 royal weddings and the coronation of every English monarch from 1066. Stroll through St James’s Park and meet its resident pelicans until you end up at Buckingham Palace and Whitehall’s Horse Guards Parade. If you arrive before 11am (10am on Sundays), you can catch the Changing of the Guards. Head for the River Thames and cross via Westminster Bridge. You’ll pass the Royal Festival Hall and HMS Belfast before arriving at Tower Bridge and The Tower of London - former palace, fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site, which protects the Crown Jewels.


Maritime London (approximately five miles / 8km)

Explore the historic Cutty Sark sailing ship in Greenwich before heading to the nearby Old Royal Naval College within the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. History buffs won’t want to miss the nearby National Maritime Museum before popping next door to visit the Queen’s House Art Gallery. From there, head into Greenwich Park to find Queen Elizabeths’ oak tree. At the top of Greenwich Park hill, you’ll be rewarded with the Royal Observatory and one of the best views across London. Finish on the Prime Meridian line - from where all the world used to set its clocks (Greenwich Mean Time).


Hampstead’s History (approximately three miles / 4.8km)

Start at Keats House. Located a few minutes’ stroll from Hampstead Underground station, this Regency villa is the former home of the renowned Romantic poet and is steeped in literary history. Head onto Hampstead Heath to its wild swimming ponds, before climbing to the top of Parliament Hill for spectacular views. Discover a charming secret garden at Hampstead’s Hill Garden and Pergola before finishing at Kenwood House. Surrounded by stunning landscaped gardens, the expansive white building is a masterpiece by 18th-century Scottish architect, Robert Adam.

Washington DC's National Cherry Blossom Festival

In 1912 Tokyo's Mayor Yukio Ozaki gifted DC with Cherry Blossom trees and each spring over 3,000 of them bloom across the city. 

The city celebrates with the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival during April, featuring events honouring American and Japanese cultures. 

Highlights include the Opening Ceremony and Blossom Kite Festival, Petalpalooza, the annual Parade and the Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival. 

National Visitor Survey Latest Data Confirms The Whitsundays is The Place to Stay

The Whitsundays has delivered more records in the latest release of National Visitor Survey (NVS) data reporting on the year to December 2022. In the first NVS report without any pandemic restrictions, the records were achieved in the interstate visitors and the number of nights stayed categories.

Visitors from New South Wales (NSW) were the highest number of interstate travellers, making up a record 176,000 of the record 341,000 travellers. The interstate market also clocked up a record 2,398,000 nights, an increase of 108% on 2022 data.

Commenting on the survey, Tourism Whitsundays Chief Executive Officer Rick Hamilton said these results continue to prove what everyone in The Whitsundays already knows: The Whitsundays is the best place to holiday.

“Queenslanders discovered The Whitsundays during the pandemic, and it is encouraging to see that the message is reaching the NSW market. With Bonza launching a new direct flight from Newcastle to The Whitsundays, NSW visitation is only set to grow further.

“These results once again underline the significant contribution tourism makes here. As a region, we rely on tourism for one in three jobs. We have world-class tour operators, accommodation options and businesses all working to deliver an outstanding holiday experience to vacationers in The Whitsundays, whatever their budget,” Mr Hamilton said.

While visitation from interstate reached record highs, the previous record of $1.5 billion in visitor expenditure was maintained for another quarter.

Tourism Whitsundays Chair Julie Telford is thrilled to see record visitation from interstate markets to the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef, The Whitsundays.

“It’s fantastic to see more interstate travellers discover what a diverse holiday offering The Whitsundays and Queensland have. Queensland is such a diverse State, and travelling within its border can take you through the rainforest, outback, surf beaches and the wonderful Whitsundays by car, bus, train, plane and boat.

“The maintained visitor expenditure of $1.5 billion shows that visitors are still coming to experience the many activities and attractions available in The Whitsundays. From world-famous Whitehaven Beach to the Great Barrier Reef and the pristine National Parks, there is so much to experience here,” said Ms Telford.

The Whitsundays is the most tourism-reliant area in Queensland with one in three jobs directly related to tourism, and 40 per cent of all visitation to the Great Barrier Reef departing from within the region.

This event partnership with Satcha, their artisan entrepreneurs, and the guidance of multiple experienced community members has made this festival of opportunity a reality.
