Thredbo and Snow Australia Partner to Deliver Sanctioned FIS Park Events in Major Boost for Freestyle Athletes

Thredbo
Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle and Big Air events are now FIS-sanctioned and part of the Australian New Zealand Cup (ANC) Series, allowing athletes to earn official FIS points.
Youth, Junior, and Open athletes will be judged on the FIS points scale, with results contributing to both Triple Crown and ANC podiums.
This partnership marks the return of park FIS events to Australia and strengthens Thredbo's and Snow Australia's commitment to supporting athlete development.

Thredbo Resort, in partnership with Snow Australia, is thrilled to announce that the Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle and Big Air events will now be officially sanctioned as FIS competitions and included in the prestigious Australian New Zealand Cup (ANC) Series. This landmark collaboration presents a major milestone in elevating Australia's freestyle ski and snowboard pathway, providing athletes greater opportunities to gain recognition, earn FIS points, and progress toward success on the international stage.

As a part of this partnership, the 2025 Thredbo Triple Crown Series, presented by Boost Mobile, will host the first park FIS events in Australia since 2022. FIS-registered athletes will now have the opportunity to earn FIS points across Youth, Junior and Open categories - all judged using the official FIS point scale. With points counting toward both the Triple Crown and ANC standings, athletes have the unique opportunity to earn valuable FIS points while competing for a share of the $60,000 prize pool, offering dual pathways for performance recognition and career progression.

Johnny Lipzker, Snow Australia Sport Development Coordinator, says this is a game-changing opportunity for our athletes.

"Snow Australia is excited to work with Thredbo to deliver a meaningful competition experience here at home. Not only does this help athletes gain FIS points, but it also enhances their ability to qualify for international events like the Europa Cup and, ultimately, the Olympic Games," said Mr Lipzker.

Sam Noller, Thredbo Event Manager, added: "We're thrilled to bring FIS-sanctioned park events back to Thredbo as a part of the Triple Crown. This partnership with Snow Australia is a testament to our long-standing commitment to freestyle progression and gives athletes a high-quality, competitive platform to launch their international careers, all right here in the Aussie Alps."

Thredbo
The winner of the ANC series, determined by results from two Slopestyle events and one Big Air, will earn a personal World Cup quota spot for the 2025/26 season. This is a crucial stepping stone for Australian athletes eyeing qualification for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games.

This collaboration shines a spotlight on Thredbo's deepening commitment to athlete development and solidifies the Triple Crown's status as a premier competition series in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle event is taking place on August 1, and Big Air on August 25. For more information about the event, head here.

Harbour Lights and Electric Nights: Your Vivid Sydney 2025 Guide to Darling Harbour

Vivid at Darling Harbour
Where Dreamtime legends, global beats, fine dining, and luxury stays meet under a neon sky

Each winter, Sydney’s waterfronts shimmer with light and creativity—but few places rival the vibrant energy of Darling Harbour during Vivid Sydney. From 23 May to 14 June 2025, this bustling precinct becomes one of the brightest stages for Australia’s biggest festival of light, music, ideas and food. Whether you’re drawn by soulful rhythms, moving art, or dazzling reflections over the water, Darling Harbour has a full spectrum of sensory delights waiting for you.

Here’s your curated guide to the most luminous sights, pulsing beats, rich bites, and restful stays in this glowing pocket of the city.

Lights: Tunku and Ngaadi – Australian National Maritime Museum

Perched atop the Maritime Museum, Tunku and Ngaadi casts an ancestral Dreaming tale into the sky. Created by artist Cheryl Davison and brought to life by the voices of the Djinama Yilaga Choir, this installation tells the story of two ancient beings who shape the world as we know it. Through bold visuals and soaring sound, the narrative unfolds—one of creation, consequence, and the origins of the Waratah flower. It’s a story of heartbreak and beauty, written in the stars, reflected on water, and felt deep in the chest.

Beats: Dobet Gnahoré + Immy Owusu – Tumbalong Nights

Every Friday and Saturday evening during Vivid Sydney, Tumbalong Park becomes the city’s most diverse and vibrant outdoor concert venue. This year, Grammy-winning singer Dobet Gnahoré brings her powerful voice and magnetic energy to the stage. Known for her fusion of traditional African sounds with global rhythms, she delivers a performance that is as danceable as it is moving.

Opening the evening is Ghanaian-Australian artist Immy Owusu, whose Afrodelik sound fuses psychedelic surf rock with West African roots. Together, the lineup transforms Darling Harbour into a rhythmic celebration of culture and creativity—and best of all, it’s free.

Bites: Atelier by Sofitel – Level 3, Darling Drive

For a dinner that matches the brilliance outside, Atelier offers contemporary French cuisine with postcard-worthy views. Overlooking the illuminated Light Walk, this fine dining gem brings local ingredients to the table with European sophistication. Think dry-aged duck breast, oysters with champagne mignonette, and desserts that echo the colours of the festival outside. With limited window tables, reservations are essential for this immersive dining experience.

Neon Nights: Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour – 12 Darling Drive

After a night of glowing visuals and cultural thrills, rest your head in the comfort of five-star French luxury. Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour offers city skyline or harbourfront views right from your suite. The infinity pool is a standout for a post-light-walk unwind, while the Champagne Bar is ideal for a sparkling nightcap. Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of the action, with most installations and performances just steps from the lobby.

Extend Your Stay, Expand Your Experience

Darling Harbour’s Vivid footprint continues to evolve, but its appeal stays constant: it’s a place where Indigenous stories are elevated with light, where global rhythms echo across the water, and where a quick visit becomes an unforgettable experience. Make it your base for a night—or a whole glowing week.

Global conflicts impact 2 in 3 international meetings, report organisers

New IAPCO-led research quantifies impact of global unrest on international meetings industry

The results of the Global Socio-Political Impact Survey of 2025 which was issued by the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO), in collaboration with the National PCO Association Task Force members and global Strategic Partners, show two-thirds of respondents (59.53%) reported that global conflicts have impacted their ability to plan or host international meetings or events – either moderately (45.24%) or significantly (14.29%). Furthermore, 25% have had to cancel, postpone, or relocate events due to safety concerns and instability.

The international association partners sought to quantify the impact of global unrest, policy changes and armed conflicts of the last two years on the international meetings and conference industry. They sent a survey to their combined membership in April 2025.

Martin Boyle, CEO of IAPCO said the results are clear – the current global unrest is impacting organisers, venues, travel, and delegates to meet, learn, exchange knowledge and do business.

“The report revealed that 57.14% of respondents had between 1 to 10 of their client's venues impacted by global unrest, with 5.95% reporting this number was between 11 and 20. To put this into context, in 2024 alone, IAPCO members delivered 19,469 events globally – we are talking about vast numbers of conferences that have been disrupted.”

The financial costs are mounting.

“Over one-quarter of respondents (26.83%) said they had experienced losses of up to €50,000, and 14.64% experienced losses greater than €150,000.

“The results paint a clear picture of an industry navigating multifaceted pressures, from operational logistics to stakeholder confidence and financial viability.

“The findings reinforce the need for continued adaptability, contingency planning, and enhanced collaboration across the global meetings and events community.”

Martin said as IAPCO members brace for further impacts – especially the Trump Administration’s freeze on research and academics attending conferences – they are well placed to deliver through complex and challenging circumstances due to their reviewed quality processes, global connections, and their deep commitment to continuous improvement.

“IAPCO members are at the top of their game. Whilst these challenges are biting, members are leaning on each other to innovate and work together for the benefit of their clients. The power of our global community has never been more important,” said Boyle.

The Global Socio-Political Impact Survey of 2025 report is available at www.iapco.org

WTTC Urges Travel & Tourism to Join Forces to Scale Up Sustainable Fuel

From hotels to tour operators, every business has a role in powering a cleaner future

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in collaboration with global consultancy ICF, has today launched a bold new framework urging the entire Travel & Tourism sector to unite in tackling one of its toughest challenges: scaling up the production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other renewable fuels.

The report, Scaling Up Sustainable Fuel, sets out a practical roadmap for how every business in the sector, no matter its size or role, can help address transport-related emissions and accelerate the shift to cleaner fuels.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said "Sustainable fuel is the single biggest game-changer for Travel & Tourism, but right now, supply falls dangerously short of demand. If we don’t act together, we risk rising costs, limited availability, and stalled climate progress.

“Every hotel, tour operator, travel agency, cruise line and airline has a role to play. This framework gives them the blueprint. Sustainable fuel is not just an environmental necessity; it’s a business imperative and governments must incentivise the production of SAF, not just set targets for the sector.”

Today, SAF accounts for just 0.3% of global jet fuel use. To meet net-zero targets by 2050, production must increase more than 400-fold – from 1.25BN litres today to over 450BN litres. That will require as many as 6,500 new renewable fuel plants worldwide. Sustainable Marine Fuel (SMF) faces similar supply and infrastructure constraints.

Unlike other decarbonisation options, SAF is a ‘drop-in’ solution. It works with existing engines and aircraft. But high production costs, limited infrastructure, and feedstock competition have kept volumes low and prices high – up to 10 times that of conventional fuel.

The new WTTC-ICF framework offers clear, tiered actions for Travel & Tourism stakeholders to engage, whether as Collaborators, Promoters, Adopters, or Investors. From joining campaigns and supplying waste products, to funding production facilities or purchasing sustainable fuel certificates, the report makes it clear: every business can contribute.

Daniel Galpin, ICF Managing Director, stated “Decarbonising transport is a crucial step towards achieving a sustainable tourism sector. While transport industries, particularly aviation with its focus on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), have recognised the importance of sustainable fuels and are couragesouly working towards a new era, there remains a significant journey ahead. It is essential for the broader tourism ecosystem to take action and provide support to meet the targets set, as well as to implement both operational and strategic changes required.

“ICF is proud to have collaborated closely with WTTC to identify the roles that tourism stakeholders can adopt and the actions they can take to facilitate the decarbonisation of the sector, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Real-world case studies show how action is already underway. The Erawan Group is turning hotel waste oil into SAF, in Asia, whilst Jet2 has invested in a UK-based SAF plant using recyclable household waste.

Crucially, the report warns that unless the sector acts collectively, SAF mandates introduced by governments, requiring a 5% to 10% blend by 2030, could increase travel costs and limit consumer choice.

With Travel & Tourism forecast to generate $16.5TN and support over 460MN jobs by 2035, scaling up sustainable fuel isn’t just an environmental challenge. It’s an economic imperative.

Wafaifo Resort Hoi An, which opened its doors in December 2024, has unveiled its timely, inspirational meetings and events space designed for focus, flow and the connection of people and ideas, all with a Vietnamese twist.

Mikkel Krantz, Commercial Director of the property, said: “As markets experience rising costs, shifting trade dynamics, and increased caution around business spending, organisations are seeking second-tier city destinations that deliver value without compromise.

“Hoi An, just 40 minutes from Da Nang International Airport, is increasingly appealing to planners looking for unique, authentic, and budget-conscious alternatives to major city venues,” he said.

A 10-minute walk from Hoi An’s UNESCO heritage centre, the new property provides a stylish and functional setting for meetings, executive retreats, incentive programmes, creative workshops, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.

The details

The 270 sqm meeting venue can accommodate gatherings of up to 200 guests and can be configured in various formats. The interiors feature natural wood accents, sky-inspired ceiling decor, and wave-patterned flooring, giving the space a contemporary marine feeling.

The meetings facility includes high-speed Wi-Fi and advanced AV capabilities, customised event menus created by the in-house F&B team, a dedicated event concierge, and flexible booking options to meet client needs. The main ballroom features retractable event screens and moveable partitions.

The facilities include two executive boardrooms, one with a full teleconferencing set up.

Mr Krantz said that the same service ethic that has quickly wowed guests and earned the resort five-star reviews, will also define the hotel’s event offering.

“We believe Wafaifo’s inspirational event spaces, can-do service standards, superlative catering, and convenient location with ample car parking will more than satisfy meeting needs,” he said.

Importance of taste

For each event, menus are thoughtfully designed, creatively matching local ingredients with Vietnamese culinary heritage and international flair. “The amazing culinary sensations created in our kitchen add a real wow factor,” said Mr Krantz.

In April, Wafaifo Resort Hoi An won the Australia Chamber of Commerce Vietnam award for best hotel in the centre and north of the country.

Since opening, the resort has received very positive reviews across leading travel platforms such as TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Google, Trip.com and more. Guests have praised the resort for the attention to detail in its rooms, its friendly service-oriented team, and convenient location within walking distance of Hoi An’s heritage centre. An Bang beach is a 10-minute drive away.

Wafaifo Resort Hoi An works closely with travel agents, MICE planners and DMCs across Vietnam and Asia. Commissionable packages and hosted site inspections are available on request.

A Six-Month Global Showcase Begins in Japan

From April 13, the world turns its gaze to Osaka as Expo 2025 officially opens its gates for a six-month journey through innovation, international collaboration, and cultural discovery. Among the standout attractions is the Canada Pavilion, a bold and beautiful showcase of Canadian culture, values, and creativity — right in the heart of Japan.

An Animated Welcome from Anne Shirley

One of the highlights of the pavilion’s programming is the screening of a new animated series based on Anne of Green Gables, the beloved literary classic by L.M. Montgomery. Gold Coast to shine as romantic haven as Korean dating show ‘Love After Divorce’ begins filming

‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’
Seoul-based Maeil Broadcasting Network’s (MBN) dating reality show ‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’ began filming on the Gold Coast at the weekend, with the city set to be a romantic haven for ten divorced men and women seeking true love.

Scheduled to air in the second half of 2025, the popular dating reality show attracts 23 million viewers in Korea – over 45 per cent of the population.

The decision to film the dating program in Queensland follows a collaboration between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Tourism Australia (TA), Experience Gold Coast (EGC) and Korean Air (KE). Seven to eight episodes of the 12-episode season will be filmed entirely in Queensland, also including Brisbane.

It follows record levels of Korean tourism to Queensland, as the latest data from TEQ shows 77,000 Koreans came to Queensland in 2024 – up 81.9 per cent over the past three years.

It is only the second time the show has been shot in an international location, with Season 4 being filmed in the US and Mexico in 2023, and will be available to watch on Netflix, MBN’s main TV channel in Korea as well as various streaming platforms such as TVING, Wavve, Watcha, and Coupang Play.

TEQ and TA, in conjunction with Korean Air, plan to entice more visitors to Queensland after it broadcasts by collaborating with a consortium of seven Korean trade partners who specialise in promoting outbound romantic destinations as well as online travel agency (OTA) partners. The trade activity is expected to commence once the first episode of the reality series goes to air.

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell, said: “Hosting ‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’ on the Gold Coast is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Queensland’s unique appeal to a vast Korean audience. Visitors from Korea contributed $359.2m to the state economy in overnight visitor expenditure last year, and we anticipate that this exposure will further enhance our reputation as a premier destination for romance and adventure.”

Craig Davidson, CEO at Tourism and Events Queensland, commented: "Queensland has endless romantic destinations, from our culturally rich cities and island resorts scattered all along the state’s coastline, through to our boutique spas and hideaways throughout Queensland’s interior.

“We anticipate that this broadcast will generate over $140 million in PR value and contribute to establishing Queensland as a romantic destination for Korean couples."

Phillipa Harrison, Managing Director of Tourism Australia, said: “Screen tourism is a great way to showcase destinations and it is something we are increasingly looking to leverage to highlight parts of Australia into key markets around the world. The popular South Korean entertainment program ‘Love After Divorce’ will feature the best of what the Gold Coast has to offer, from its natural beauty to high end resorts and world class restaurants.

“South Korea is a growing inbound international market for Australia with travellers arriving in record numbers and featuring our country in market in different ways will, like this popular program, encourage even more South Korean travellers to plan and book an Australian holiday.”

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn, said: "We’re excited to welcome ‘Love after Divorce’ to film here on the Gold Coast. It’s a testament to our city’s growing appeal as a destination of choice for international film and television producers.

“As our fourth largest international source market, we know South Koreans love the Gold Coast and the filming of this hugely popular reality show here will only serve to showcase our city to an even broader audience in South Korea. Visitors continue to be attracted by our beaches, hinterland, warm tropical climate and natural wildlife, the perfect romantic destination and backdrop for the program.”

Portraits of a Nation: The Archibald Prize 2025 Captivates Sydney

Archibald Prize 2025 winner, Julie Fragar
Flagship Mother Multiverse (Justene)
A Time-Honoured Tradition Returns

Each year, the Archibald Prize captures the spirit of Australia through the faces that define it. In 2025, the prestigious portraiture exhibition returns to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, running until 17 August. For over a century, this prize has celebrated talent, diversity, and the evolving landscape of contemporary Australian identity. The 2025 iteration promises to be no different—bold, thought-provoking, and deeply human.

Where Art Meets Identity

More than just portraits, the Archibald entries offer an intimate lens into the stories of their subjects. Whether they are public figures, community icons or anonymous muses, the paintings invite viewers to connect, reflect, and reconsider. This year's selection explores themes of resilience, cultural pride, and the personal dimensions of fame and influence.

The finalists include both emerging and established artists, many pushing the boundaries of traditional portraiture with daring use of colour, texture and symbolism. Visitors will encounter everything from hyperrealist oils to abstract interpretations, all bound by the common thread of human connection.

A Sydney Staple for All Ages

The Art Gallery of NSW, perched on the edge of The Domain overlooking Sydney Harbour, offers the ideal backdrop for the exhibition. The newly expanded gallery space provides a fluid experience for visitors to engage with the artworks at their own pace. Families, students, art lovers and casual visitors alike will find something to admire and contemplate.

Guided tours and interactive sessions provide further insight into the stories behind the portraits and the artists who created them. A dedicated kids’ trail and art-making activities ensure younger audiences can connect with the exhibition in a hands-on, age-appropriate way.

Plan Your Visit

Entry to the Archibald Prize 2025 exhibition is ticketed, with timed sessions recommended during peak periods. The Art Gallery of NSW is easily accessible by public transport, and offers cafés, bookshops, and public spaces to make a day of your visit.

The exhibition runs daily until 17 August 2025.

NEW LOOK, NEW MENU, SAME ICONIC VIEW: CRUISE BAR & RESTAURANT REOPENS

Cruise Bar & Restaurant
Cruise Bar & Restaurant, the harbourside institution with front-row views of the Sydney Opera House, has just reopened after months of extensive renovations - and it’s arriving with a whole new look, feel, and flavour.

Long a favourite of celebrities, socialites, and jet-setters, Cruise has hosted everyone from Kylie Minogue to Fleetwood Mac and Justin Beiber. Now, after a luxe makeover by award-winning design firm Luchetti Krelle, it’s reclaiming its place as the city’s ultimate waterfront destination. Expect a sophisticated, modern Australian menu, a cocktail list brimming with native botanicals, and a space that blends refined elegance with effortless fun. Cruise is back—and it’s better than ever.

Led by Head Chef Han Chen (ex-Amare, Felix), the new menu is a deep dive into Australia’s native larder, drawing inspiration from the country’s diverse landscapes. Dishes include bush tomato butter mussels, pan-seared Humpty Doo barramundi with macadamia cream, and confit duck risotto with butternut squash and crispy saltbush. For those looking to indulge, the Grande Cruise Seafood Tower showcases freshly shucked Royal Miyagi oysters, Australian prawns, scallop ceviche, and scallop mousse zucchini flowers—a celebration of premium local seafood.

The drinks list has had its own reinvention, led by Tom Bulmer (Margaret, O Bar, Jane) and a team that knows its way around native flavours. The Lilly Flower brings together raspberry, lilly pilly, Casamigos tequila, and hibiscus, while the Afternoon Fashion reinvents a classic Old Fashioned with croissant-washed whisky and toasted wattleseed. Other highlights include the Berry in Sight, a bold blend of mulberry, bush apple, blended whisky, and desert lime shrub, and the Different Aspect, balancing lemon aspen, peach sorbet, and Tanqueray Sevilla gin

Taking over the top floor is Melba’s Rooftop, an exclusive new space named for Dame Nellie Melba—opera royalty, and the namesake of a storied Australian cargo ship. A sunset-hued haven with panoramic harbour views, Melba’s will be open for private functions, weddings, conferences and ticketed special events.

“Sydney has changed a lot in the past decade, but there’s always been a place for a venue like Cruise,” says General Manager John Harvey. “It’s got history, it’s got views that stop you in your tracks, and now it’s got an elevated experience to match.

“We’ve carefully curated an offering that reflects Sydney’s evolving food and drink culture. From the menu to the design, every detail has been considered to create an experience that feels fresh, exciting, and uniquely Cruise. This isn’t just a comeback—it’s a statement, and we can’t wait to welcome Sydney back,” said Harvey.
