Samoa in 2026: The Authentic Island Escape That’s Winning Over Business Events at AIME

Samoa Tourism
If you’re searching for a destination that feels genuinely refreshing, culturally rich and naturally inspiring, Samoa deserves your full attention in 2026. Long admired for its tropical beauty and warm island hospitality, Samoa is now firmly on the radar for business events, incentive travel and group escapes that crave something more meaningful than the usual resort routine.

At AIME 2026, Samoa Tourism is showcasing exactly why this South Pacific gem is becoming a smart choice for planners who want memorable experiences, strong value, and a destination that delivers real connection. From oceanfront gatherings to cultural immersion and adventure-filled itineraries, Samoa is proving that business travel can feel like a reward.

Why Samoa Tourism Belongs at AIME 2026

Samoa Tourism
AIME is where event planners, travel buyers and destination partners come together to shape the year ahead, and Samoa Tourism’s presence is a standout for anyone wanting fresh ideas beyond the traditional event hubs.

Samoa offers the rare combination of accessibility and authenticity. It’s close enough to feel easy for Australian travellers, yet different enough to feel like a true escape. That matters more than ever in 2026, as organisations look for destinations that energise teams, inspire delegates and create a strong sense of shared experience.

For incentive programs, conferences, leadership retreats or small group events, Samoa brings something that can’t be manufactured: genuine island culture, natural beauty, and a pace that encourages people to slow down and connect.

Authentic Experiences That Elevate Incentives and Events

Samoa Tourism
What makes Samoa so compelling for incentive travel and business events is the destination’s ability to deliver experiences that feel personal and real.

Groups can move beyond standard itineraries and embrace cultural activities, village connections, island dining, coastal adventures and unforgettable scenery. Samoa’s strength lies in its simplicity, where the most memorable moments often come from nature, community and shared time together.

For corporate travel, this creates the kind of trip people talk about long after they return home. It’s not just a meeting with a view. It’s a destination that encourages deeper engagement, better bonding and a stronger sense of reward.

A Natural Fit for Business Travel with Heart

Samoa Tourism
In 2026, the best business events are those that feel human. Delegates want experiences that support wellbeing, not burnout. They want meaningful networking, not just busy schedules. Samoa fits perfectly into this shift.

The island atmosphere naturally supports slower, more balanced itineraries, while still allowing for productive sessions and professional outcomes. Whether it’s a beachfront welcome gathering, a relaxed leadership retreat, or a team celebration that feels truly special, Samoa offers the kind of setting that enhances the purpose of travel.

For planners, it’s a destination that helps create memorable programs without needing to overcomplicate the schedule.

Why Australians Are Looking to the South Pacific in 2026

Samoa Tourism
As travel trends continue to evolve, more Australians are choosing destinations that feel closer, simpler and more rewarding. The South Pacific is increasingly attractive for groups and incentive travel because it offers the sense of “going away” without the long-haul fatigue.

Samoa stands out because it delivers a true cultural identity alongside its natural beauty. It’s not just a beach destination. It’s a place where travellers feel welcomed, grounded and enriched by the experience.

For companies and organisations, that translates into trips that feel more meaningful, and often more achievable, than complex international itineraries.

Meet Samoa Tourism at Booth A22 at AIME 2026

Samoa Tourism will be at Booth A22 at AIME 2026, ready to connect with buyers, planners and travel professionals who want to explore Samoa for incentives, events and business travel.

If you’re looking for a destination that offers authentic experiences, strong destination appeal and a fresh alternative for 2026 planning, Samoa is a conversation worth having at AIME.

VIRGIN AUSTRALIA ‘SURF’S UP’ DIRECT GOLD COAST - BALI FLIGHTS, ADDS SAMOA AND VANUATU TO DESTINATION LIST,

Virgin Australia will become the first Australian carrier ever to offer direct flights between the Gold Coast and Bali, connecting two of the world’s premier surfing destinations from next year.

Commencing on 29 March 2023 and available to book from today, services between the Gold Coast Airport’s new International Terminal and Bali will operate daily, with more than 2,200 seats available each week.

The announcement comes as Virgin Australia prepares to recommence flights to Bali from Sydney from tomorrow and Melbourne and Brisbane from Friday 17 June.

Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said the addition of the new Bali service reflected the growth in demand for services in and out of the Gold Coast Airport as well as the airline’s expanding presence there, with the new route set to further enhance Virgin Australia’s network from the Gold Coast.

“We are currently seeing continued growth in travel demand for Gold Coast services and are operating up to 180 domestic flights outbound each week,” Ms Hrdlicka said.

In May alone our Gold Coast bookings were up 55 per cent compared to 2019, with bookings on our existing Bali flights up 48 per cent for the same period and growing every week.

With the addition of the Gold Coast Airport terminal expansion and demand for Bali rising, the time is right to connect these two famous holiday destinations as well as the surf breaks, wellness activities and nightlife that comes with them.

Surfboards enclosed in a protective hard case bag, with fins removed, that weigh less than 23kg and are shorter than 3m incur no excess baggage fees and are considered part of your checked baggage allowance when you book a Choice or Flex fare with Virgin Australia.

Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills welcomed the launch of Gold Coast-Bali flights, which he said further cemented the Gold Coast Airport and Virgin Australia connection.

“This service, linking two of the world’s top surf and lifestyle destinations, will be extremely popular with locals,” Mr Mills said.

“We have seen significant growth in Virgin Australia services in and out of Gold Coast Airport through the travel recovery, and this is a clear demonstration of what can happen with a strong partnership.”

Virgin Australia’s Short Haul International operations continue to grow, with Virgin Australia also soon planning to resume services to both Vanuatu and Samoa alongside its services to Fiji, Bali and Queenstown, New Zealand.

Direct services from Brisbane to Port Vila, Vanuatu will commence on 10 March 2023 with up to five flights a week. Services to Apia, Samoa will commence from Sydney on 21 March 2023 with up to three flights per week and from Brisbane on 23 March 2023 with up to two flights per week.

The addition of Samoa and Vanuatu to Virgin Australia’s network will give holiday makers a greater choice of Pacific Island destinations as well as provide those wanting to reconnect with friends and family the opportunity to do so as both destinations open to international travel post COVID-19.

To celebrate, Virgin Australia has dropped a Set Your Sights Overseas sale, with discounts of up to 30 per cent on offer for over 70,000 seats on all the airline’s Short Haul International routes*, including those announced today.

You're Tutu Kind…marriott International Sets Fun Challenge to Raise Money for Staff in the South Pacific

You're tutu kind…Marriott International sets fun challenge to raise money for staff in the South Pacific

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” William Arthur Ward

Marriott International staff in Fiji & Samoa have chanted “vinaka vakelvu” after their colleagues in Australia and New Zealand raised more than $26,000 with an en pointe challenge.

Marriott associates across the South Pacific voted with their wallets to select three of the company's top leaders to wear a tutu for an entire day and raise money for school bags and shoes, stationery and other back to school necessities for the impacted associates and families.

The General Managers nominated for the challenge were:
  • Ravinder Dhesi, JW Marriott Gold Coast Spa & Resort
  • Krister Svensson, Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park
  • Kim Mahaffy, Pier One Sydney Harbour

Neeraj Chadha, Multi Property Vice President, Fiji & Samoa for Marriott International said the closure of international borders shut has had a great impact on the local economies.

“A number of our associates had their jobs impacted through redundancy, limited or no working hours. Although they were able to access a portion of their retirement funds, for most, this is not enough to help their families with basic necessities,” he said.

“So from all of us at Marriott Fiji & Samoa, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous colleagues in helping to raise over $26,000 for our associates in the Pacific islands.”

Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific for Marriott International joined the chorus of praise.

“This is simply incredible and a truly outstanding effort by the ANZP team,” he added. “The contribution will make a real difference to the local community in Fiji & Samoa and shows the united compassion our associates have for their colleagues.”

Christianity in Samoa

Christianity is an important aspect in our Fa’aSamoa- Samoan way of life. With our nation’s motto,” E Faavae i le Atua, Samoa- Samoa is founded on God,” our Christian values and principles are evident in every Samoan family today.

Along with the C.C.C.S (Congregational Christian Church of Samoa), we proudly celebrate 190 years of the first arrival of Christianity in our Beautiful Samoa.

The first Missionaries who brought the Good word of God and peace to the Samoan people were John Williams and the Missionaries of the London Missionary Society (LMS) on the 24th of August in 1830.

They were accepted by Malietoa Vainu’upo and settled in Sapapali’i village on Savaii Island.

The historic landmark was celebrated and commemorated by the CCCS (Congregational Christian Church of Samoa) parishes around the country on Sunday, 6th September 2020.

Tanoa Hotel Group Update

Tanoa International Hotel
We have all seen the dramatic impact of Covid-19 on our families, our communities and our very way of life. What we’re facing is daunting, but we are heartened by the moments of triumph in everyday acts of courage, humanity and love. Although these are extremely trying times for us all, we remain optimistic that our world will thrive once again. That is the reason that Tanoa Hotel Group remains open to support the local economies in which it operates. We are family owned and managed and we are here to stay!

As it has always been, the safety and security of our guests and our people remains our highest priority. The steps we’re taking on cleanliness and new hospitality norms in partnership with Ecolab shows our commitment to health and safety. By taking care of our people and following these new protocols – we will be collectively taking care of our guests and the global community. Our hotel teams are responding to the crisis around them with great pride by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. We are all in this together!

We don’t know when the Covid-19 pandemic will be over or when our lives will return to some sort of normalcy, but Tanoa remains open. We are grateful to our guests who continue to support us and we want to say a huge thank you to our teams who work tirelessly to ensure that Tanoa is a safe and healthy place to visit.

Keep safe until we see you again at Tanoa!

All the hotel teams have been doing a fantastic job in these trying times. They all can't wait for borders to open to welcome all their international guests back. In the meantime though - here is a sneaky peak at what they have all been up to. Please note, Tanoa Skylodge Hotel remains closed at this time.

Tanoa International Hotel has been one of the preferred hotels by authorities for all repatriation flight guests, so they have been busy accommodating these guests under strict quarantine protols. Assisting the Fijian Government and the Ministry of Health and medical services has been a privilege as the team are making a major difference in the fight to contain Covid-19 in Fiji. In addition, due to the stringent health and safety procedures being followed, they have been successfully accommodating leisure and corporate guests in a separate block of rooms away from the quarantine guests.

Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel has been accommodating local corporate guests and government ministries during the week, and local leisure guests during the weekends. They have held a small number of functions in the restaurant, and have opened their pool up for locals to use (with any food or beverage purchase) – which is getting a lot of traction!

Tanoa Waterfront Hotel has been accommodating guests, as well as hosting a number of small functions for birthdays, engagements, and weddings – with a few bigger ones on the horizon. Conference business has started to increase which is a positive sign. They have taken this time to upskill all employees by getting all of the team to train in other departments, a great initiative which will bode well for the future.

Tanoa Plaza Hotel was forced to close down for the months of May and June. However, they re-opened their doors on 1st July and were finally able to showcase the brand new refurbishment which was finished earlier this year. Since they re-opened, the team have been excited to welcome guests back, and they have also hosted a few small events and functions.

Tanoa Apartments has remained open and with each apartment being self-contained with cooking facilities, it is a great place to holiday whilst keeping your distance. Its unique hilltop location provides the best views of Nadi and surrounding areas, including the famous Garden of the Sleeping Giant mountain range. The swimming pool area has recently had an upgrade, with a poolside BBQ cooking facility being added for in-house guests to enjoy dinner under the stars, overlooking the stunning night view of Nadi.

Tanoa Tusitala Hotel (and Samoa) have been hit very hard by Covid-19. However with tourism at a stand still, the GM and team have been working hard on the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel so it is ready to welcome guests back as soon as borders open. An overlap of duties and responsibilities has been implemented, where every team member is no longer confined to their usual work, but is rather a ‘floater’ - reassigned from job to job as needed. The teams collaborative effort is the power that is driving Tanoa Tusitala forward and maintaining its reputation as one of the best hotels in Samoa. The hotel is also excited that their very own Executive Chef (Anulesh Chetty) was featured in the Samoan KUKA Tastes of beautiful Samoa show which aired nationally during July. Anulesh created an amazing dish and was able to showcase the hotels amazing farm-to-table concept.

Tanoa Dateline Hotel has been adapting to their new set of circumstances. Whilst tourism is at a standstill, Tonga is, fortunately, one of the few Covid free countries in the world. They look forward to welcoming tourists back in the not too distant future. In the meantime, the team on the ground are taking the time to cultivate a sustainable garden project that reflects current trends of the farm-to-table ethos. The hotel grounds have limited space, but the team have taken on the challenge to utilise any available land and embrace vertical gardening where possible.

They will also shift from conventional landscaping and replace traditional decorative plants with fruit and vegetables. They have planted pineapples, bananas, passionfruit, papaya, eggplant, okra, beetroot, radishes, tomatoes, chillies, spinach, peanuts, ginger, turmeric, lemon grass and sweetcorn. In addition, they have planted lemon trees, guava and mountain apples, soursop and starfruit which will yield in years to come. The project is in its initial phase and we look forward to updating you on its progress.

Russell Cottages had to close completely for 7 weeks from 25th March due to the level 4 and level 3 lockdown in New Zealand. Since re-opening in mid-May, the team have been excited to welcome guests back. With borders being closed, New Zealanders have been getting out and exploring their own backyard with many choosing to stay at Russell Cottages – the school holidays were especially busy. The team are looking forward to a busy summer season at the cottages. If you are in NZ – book your holiday in now!

Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa is Committed to Keeping Staff Smiling

Despite travel restrictions that continue to hinder the resort's ability to unite with its beloved guests, the owners and management team behind Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa in Samoa are determined to seek out meaningful opportunities to keep their staff smiling during the COVID-19 crisis.

Sinalei Marketing and Business Development Manager, Nelson Annandale, said 'aiga' means family in Samoa and is the cornerstone of existence in the island nation.

“While we're closed to the public, we're committed to keeping our workforce employed and we're actively searching for creative ways to offer additional support to our Sinalei family members and their nearest and dearest throughout these trying times,” he said.

Recognising the need of the wider Samoan community, the resort has initiated an onsite organic vegetable garden and nursery that is open to locals.

“With the help of local village farmers, we've launched a new green project that aims to provide additional employment and upskilling opportunities for those most in need,” Nelson explained. “Long-term, it also generates the exciting possibility to introduce 'farm-to-plate' experiences and tours for our future guests.”

The resort has also set out to raise awareness of the risk of mental health during trying times, including conditions like PTSD. With the help of willing team members, Sinalei has proudly kick-started Samoa's largest ever '25-day push up challenge'.

“Here at Sinalei, we believe that magic lies in adventure, paying close attention and showing appreciation for the little things,” Nelson said. “With that in mind, we've embarked upon this fun and uplifting challenge to remind everyone that although times are tough, together we can and will get through and continue to seize each day with a smile.”

2019 Pacific Games Beneficial for Samoa Tourism

The opening of the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa on the weekend was a showcase of the rich Samoan culture and heritage and heralds the start of two weeks of intensive competition by the best sports people in the region said SPTO Chief Executive, Christopher Cocker.

“The Organising Committee, Government and people of Samoa are to be commended for what I believe is one of the best Pacific Games opening Ceremony. I heard that it has been labelled as well as the miracle Pacific Games because the rain stopped just before the opening ceremony started. Thank you Samoa for bringing the Pacific people together and making us all proud at the opening ceremony! ” said Mr. Cocker.

Mr. Cocker said Samoa has made each country delegation welcome and gone the extra mile to ensure that the Games is a “Plastics free” event, “This augurs well with the role Pacific people play in the protection of the Blue Pacific which is a pillar of our common identity.”

With more than 3000 athletes participating in 26 various sports, Mr. Cocker said the Pacific Games is a boom for the Samoan economy, “As the Games not only celebrates athleticism and sportsmanship of our Pacific people but highlights the rising importance of sports tourism for our region as another means to enhancing economic prosperity, especially for the host country.”

Mr. Cocker said the hike in visitors, over the two weeks of the Pacific Games will certainly boost the local commerce and tourism businesses in Samoa with athletes, support teams and their families looking to immerse in the Samoan shopping, cuisine, cultural and hospitality experience.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Samoa to put on great showcase for visitors from the Pacific and abroad which I am certain they will accomplish very well. I take this opportunity to wish all the athletes the best in their various events and also to enjoy the hospitality of beautiful Samoa,” said Mr. Cocker.
