A New Era for Waikīkī: The Moana Surfrider’s Elegant Transformation

Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa
Waikīkī’s beloved "First Lady" is undergoing an exciting transformation. Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, which first opened its doors in 1901, is embarking on a multiyear renovation to celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2026. This historic hotel, a stunning blend of Victorian charm and modern comforts, is ready to honor its legacy while ushering in a new era of luxury and style.

For over a century, the Moana Surfrider has stood as a symbol of elegance and timeless beauty in the heart of Waikīkī. Known for its majestic banyan tree and picturesque oceanfront views, the resort has attracted visitors from around the globe, offering an unparalleled blend of history, culture, and leisure. Now, with a thoughtful renovation plan, the hotel aims to preserve its storied past while offering a fresh and refined experience for future generations.

The renovation focuses on three key wings of the resort: the historic Banyan Wing, the airy Diamond Wing, and the contemporary Tower Wing. Each will undergo a transformation that enhances the guest experience while preserving the hotel's iconic charm. The most notable feature of the renovation will be the extensive refresh of the 791 guest rooms and suites, ensuring that each space meets the highest standards of comfort and elegance. Expect modern amenities integrated seamlessly with the resort's traditional appeal, creating a perfect balance of past and present.

One of the most exciting aspects of the renovation is the refresh of the historic lobby. With its colonial-style Victorian architecture, the lobby has long been a focal point of the Moana Surfrider’s ambiance. The renovation will maintain the lobby’s classic beauty while introducing a brighter, more spacious design that invites guests into a welcoming atmosphere. The front desk area will be reimagined to complement the elegant surroundings, creating an inviting space where visitors can start their Hawaiian getaway in style.

But the changes don’t end inside. The Moana Surfrider’s iconic location along the shores of Waikīkī Beach, offering 600 feet of oceanfront, ensures that guests continue to enjoy easy access to the beach and breathtaking views. Along with the renovations, the resort will continue to provide the services and amenities that have made it a favorite among travelers, including its award-winning beachfront spa, oceanfront pool, fitness center, and wellness classes. The resort will also continue to be home to six dining options that cater to a variety of tastes, offering everything from traditional Hawaiian flavors to contemporary international cuisine.

The renovation project is scheduled for completion in 2026, in time for the resort’s 125th anniversary. As the Moana Surfrider embraces its past while stepping into the future, this iconic hotel promises to remain a cherished landmark in Waikīkī, offering guests an unforgettable experience of refined elegance and modern luxury.

Whether you’re a history buff, a beach lover, or simply someone who appreciates the perfect blend of comfort and style, Moana Surfrider remains the quintessential Hawaiian retreat. With the ongoing renovations, the resort will continue to honor its legacy while offering a new chapter in its storied history. Guests can look forward to an even more exceptional experience, combining the timeless allure of Waikīkī with the luxury and amenities of a world-class resort.

The Westin Surabaya unveils the largest ballroom & convention center in East Java for safe, socially-distanced business needs

The Westin Surabaya introduces the largest ballroom spanning 3,600 square metres (sqm) and convention centre in East Java, a safe and socially-distanced venue for businesses to organize meetings and conferences.

The hotel has a total of 9,000 sqm event spaces, comprising of the Grand Ballroom and 18 other modern and flexible function rooms with a cumulative capacity of over 3,100. To fit in rooms of all set-ups and virtual purposes, the hotel's meeting spaces accommodate up to eight permutations, from classic theatre and classroom set-ups to u-shape and hollow square arrangements. The hotel also takes into account equipments and tech needs, such as video conferencing, teleconferencing, and live streaming packages.

The Westin Surabaya's Meetings solutions are centered around three core values: energizing, adaptive, and responsible.

Its energizing component features pre-meeting wellness exercises such as yoga, meditation, and pilates, as well as healthier food and beverage (F&B) options during coffee breaks.

"Our venues are also adaptive, as the spacious and pillarless Grand Ballroom and meeting rooms are ideal for socially-distanced gatherings. The proximity to PGFC also provides event organizers additional flexibility to integrate meeting itineraries and space requirements across several properties.

Spacing requirements can be catered to with ease. Guests have access to 1,500 parking bays in addition to the Westin Grand Ballroom's six elevators and exclusive lobby area.

Another core value that its meetings embody is being responsible, as The Westin Surabaya supports community service, connecting guests and event organizers to local social foundations to facilitate their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The Westin Surabaya also practices frequent cleaning and disinfection of public areas, partitioned front desks, and F&B service lines, in addition to providing sanitizing supplies, temperature checks, as well as non-contact electronic options for registrations, payments, and in-room dining.

Currently, Marriott Bonvoy is unveiling a new promotional program "The Time is Now," which outlines special offers for guests who organize events in the group's hotels, including The Westin Surabaya.

Gouda Things Come for Those Who Wait – High Cheese is Back and Better Than Ever

The Westin Melbourne's ever-popular High Cheese is back and better than ever. In collaboration with premier cheesemonger Anthony Femia of Maker & Monger, the cult classic offering will see us through the colder months and can be enjoyed in the elegant surrounds of The Westin's Lobby Lounge or for the first time ever, in the comfort of your own home.

For those wanting to re-create the High Cheese experience at home, a new take-away option is available. For $189, you can pick up a High Cheese at Home Hamper for two, including all the sweet and savoury cheesy treats, designed to be placed on a special high tea stand you can self-assemble. Paired with a 1.5 litre sack of Scarlet & Clove Mulled Wine from neighbourhood friends at Bar Clara and a Maker & Monger tote, it's the perfect at home foodie experience.

“I'm so happy to be bringing this much-loved concept back again for its third iteration. In these unusual times we're also thrilled to be able to offer people the chance to try High Cheese at home with our new hamper option”, says Executive Chef of The Westin, Michael Greenlaw.

Savoury temptations on the menu this year include baked Le Conquerant Camembert studded with thyme, garlic and served with crusty sourdough; Roquefort and cognac dip with poached muscatels and spiced house-made crackers; L'Artisan Grand Fleuri layered brie with Victorian black truffle and crème fraiche, just to name a few.

“I'm so excited that this year's High Cheese could coincide with Victorian truffle season, as it truly is a match made in heaven with the L'Artisan Grand Fleuri layered brie” says Anthony Femia of Maker & Monger.

For something sweet, cheese lovers can enjoy a classic Basque cheesecake, beurre noisette madeleines, and Yarra Valley Dairy curd Fontainebleau with Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz gin and preserved cherries.

High Cheese is $70 per person and also includes free-flowing Vittoria Coffee blends, Jing Tea herbal infusions and hot chocolate. Matched wines are available by the glass or bottle and include the Scarlet & Clove mulled wine, Moët & Chandon, and a variety of Victorian whites and reds.

If you walk away wanting more, all the delicious cheese varieties featured in High Cheese are available for purchase from Maker & Monger at the Prahran Market.

High Cheese will be available daily in The Westin Melbourne Lobby Lounge from 11am – 8pm, with their seasonal High Tea offering also available daily from 11am – 4pm.
