Early mornings brought soft light across the harbour waters, daytime showcased the energy of Sydney’s bustling waterfront, while evenings transformed the skyline into a glittering panorama of city lights.

There is something uniquely satisfying about waking up in the heart of Sydney and immediately being greeted by one of the world's most iconic landmarks.

The room itself complemented the scenery beautifully. Spacious, contemporary and thoughtfully designed, it offered the comfort and practicality expected from a premium Marriott property. The signature bedding provided excellent sleep quality, while the generous work desk, comfortable seating area, reliable high-speed Wi-Fi and elegant bathroom ensured the room catered equally well to productivity and relaxation.

For more coffee throughout breakfast, I also appreciated being able to help myself at the coffee machine, allowing me to enjoy additional hot drinks at my own pace.

The buffet selection was extensive, fresh and beautifully presented, offering an impressive range of choices that catered to virtually every taste and dietary preference. One thoughtful touch I particularly enjoyed was the unique offering brought to my table each morning by the attentive staff. On one morning, this included a delicious freshly prepared smoothie, adding a personalised and memorable element to the breakfast experience.

The live egg station proved to be a standout feature, with chefs preparing a variety of freshly cooked egg dishes and omelettes made precisely to my order. The buffet also featured hot pancakes with a generous selection of toppings available to customise them exactly to individual tastes.

Beyond this, there was an extensive range of western and Asian styled hot breakfast dishes, ensuring plenty of variety from one morning to the next. I enjoyed the excellent selection of fruit juices, cereals and yoghurts, along with the wide assortment of breads available for toasting, complemented by numerous spreads and toppings.

Fresh fruit was available in abundance, while the pastry selection offered tempting choices that I thoroughly enjoyed throughout my stay. Another welcome inclusion was the thoughtfully presented gluten free section, which demonstrated the hotel’s commitment to catering for diverse dietary requirements.

The provision of a daily newspaper to read over breakfast added a classic touch that enhanced the relaxed morning atmosphere. I also appreciated how promptly the staff removed used plates from my table, allowing me to comfortably wander back to the buffet and return with fresh selections without my table becoming cluttered. This attentive attention to detail enhanced the relaxed and seamless flow of the breakfast experience.

The sauna quickly became another personal favourite and evolved into an important part of my daily routine at the hotel. Following exercise or time spent in the pool, returning to the soothing warmth of the sauna was genuinely restorative. During my stay, before attending an evening theatre performance, I dined at Silvester’s Restaurant — a decision I was very pleased with.

The restaurant strikes a pleasing balance between sophistication and comfort, while its identity is enriched by the fascinating heritage behind its name. Inspired by the historic Silvester Brothers, respected meat merchants who operated nearby for decades, the restaurant honours a longstanding tradition of quality produce and fine ingredients.

The menu is thoughtfully structured across small plates, starters, mains, sides and desserts, allowing diners to tailor the experience to appetite and occasion.

For my main course, I selected the Atlantic Salmon with Salmoriglio, while my dining companion chose the Wagyu Rump with Red Wine Jus. Both dishes were beautifully presented and accompanied by fresh salad and crisp shoestring fries. The salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and delicate, enhanced by the vibrant Mediterranean flavours of the Salmoriglio, while the Wagyu delivered exactly what one hopes for from a premium steak dish — tender, rich, flavoursome and deeply satisfying. The generous portion sizes and quality ingredients further reinforced Silvester’s commitment to refined modern Australian dining.

We accompanied the meal with a pale ale and ginger beer before finishing by sharing the Chocolate Hazelnut Mille-Feuille “Reimagined” with raspberry and beetroot ice cream — a memorable, beautifully executed and indulgently satisfying dessert that provided the perfect sweet conclusion to our dining experience.

One detail I particularly valued was the restaurant’s efficient and attentive service. With theatre tickets awaiting us, we requested prompt timing, and the team managed this perfectly without the meal feeling rushed or compromising the relaxed atmosphere of the evening.

The convenience of enjoying quality pre-theatre dining without needing to leave the hotel added enormous value to the evening and further enhanced the overall appeal of staying at Sydney Harbour Marriott.
