Cathay Pacific Elevates Luxury Travel with The Wing, First in Hong Kong

The Wing, First
At the heart of one of Asia’s busiest aviation hubs, Hong Kong International Airport has unveiled a renewed icon of luxury. Cathay Pacific’s flagship lounge, The Wing, First, has been reimagined to deliver a new era of premium travel, blending refined design, personalised comfort and world-class service.

A New Chapter in Premium Lounge Design

Positioned on the east side of Terminal 1, The Wing, First has long been synonymous with exclusivity since the airport’s opening in 1998. Its 2026 transformation signals a bold evolution, setting a new benchmark for airline lounges globally.

Designed in collaboration with London-based StudioIlse, the lounge retains its signature warmth while introducing a more sophisticated, residential-inspired aesthetic. Soft textures, natural materials and carefully curated lighting create a calming sanctuary that feels far removed from the bustle of the terminal.

A Seamless Blend of Comfort and Privacy

The redesigned space introduces a holistic approach to the lounge experience, focusing on privacy, wellbeing and intuitive service. Thoughtfully designed seating zones allow travellers to choose how they spend their time, whether unwinding in quiet contemplation or preparing for the journey ahead.

Signature private cabanas remain a standout feature, offering spa-like amenities including bathing facilities, daybeds and bespoke service touches. These exclusive retreats elevate the airport experience into something closer to a boutique hotel stay than a traditional lounge visit.

Dining Reimagined for the Modern Traveller

Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam (middle)
Dining at The Wing, First has been carefully refined to reflect Cathay Pacific’s commitment to quality and innovation. Guests can enjoy a curated menu that blends international favourites with Asian-inspired cuisine, all presented with restaurant-level finesse.

From freshly prepared dishes to expertly crafted beverages, every detail has been designed to complement the overall journey. The result is a dining experience that feels both indulgent and effortless, setting the tone for the flight ahead.

A Vision for the Future of Travel

The reopening of The Wing, First marks a significant milestone in Cathay Pacific’s broader investment strategy, which includes over HK$100 billion committed to enhancing fleet, cabins, lounges and digital innovation.

Under the leadership of Ronald Lam, alongside executives such as Lavinia Lau and Alex McGowan, the airline is redefining what travellers can expect at every touchpoint.

The Wing, First is just one part of a wider transformation. Following the recent redesign of The Bridge lounge in Hong Kong and the refreshed Cathay Pacific Lounge in Beijing, the airline is expanding its glo
bal footprint. A brand-new dedicated lounge is set to open in New York’s Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, while The Wing, Business will undergo its own transformation ahead of a 2027 reopening. Why The Wing,

          The Wing, First

First Is Worth Arriving Early For

For travellers passing through Hong Kong, The Wing, First is no longer simply a place to wait for a flight. It is a destination in its own right, redefining expectations of what an airport lounge can be.

With its harmonious blend of design, comfort and service, Cathay Pacific has created a space that reflects the future of luxury travel, where every moment before departure is as memorable as the journey itself.

Cathay Pacific Turns 80: A Retro Celebration Touches Down in Australia

Airbus A350
A Vintage Arrival at Sydney Airport

Cathay Pacific’s 80th anniversary celebrations officially took flight in Australia on 14 January 2026, when a specially painted Airbus A350 arrived at Sydney Airport. Aviation enthusiasts and travellers alike were treated to a rare sight as the aircraft appeared in Cathay’s iconic retro livery, a design that evokes the airline’s formative decades and enduring connection to Australia.

Sydney is the first Australian city, and one of the first destinations globally, to welcome this commemorative aircraft. The visit marks the beginning of a year-long celebration honouring one of the world’s most respected premium airlines.

The Return of the Iconic ‘Lettuce Leaf Sandwich’ Livery

The retro aircraft proudly wears Cathay Pacific’s legendary “lettuce leaf sandwich” paint scheme, first introduced in the early 1970s and used until the mid-1990s. The design features alternating dark green and white vertical lines along the fuselage, earning its memorable nickname by resembling lettuce layered between slices of bread.

For many travellers, this livery represents a golden era of international aviation, when flying was an occasion and airline branding was instantly recognisable. Seeing this historic design return to Australian skies has sparked nostalgia among long-time passengers and aviation fans.

Cabin Crew Uniforms Through the Decades

The anniversary celebrations extend well beyond the aircraft exterior. Throughout 2026, thousands of Cathay Pacific cabin crew will don vintage uniform designs inspired by different eras of the airline’s history. These uniforms reflect the evolving style and elegance of Cathay over eight decades, adding a unique sense of heritage to the onboard experience for passengers flying across the network.

This thoughtful attention to detail reinforces Cathay’s reputation for blending tradition with contemporary luxury.

Sydney and Cathay Pacific: A Shared Aviation History

Airbus A350
Cathay Pacific’s connection with Australia runs deep. One of the airline’s co-founders, Sydney de Kantzow, was an Australian former wartime pilot whose vision helped establish Cathay in 1946. The airline’s very first commercial flight carried cargo from Australia to China, laying the foundation for a relationship that continues to thrive today.

Passenger services between Cathay Pacific and Sydney began in October 1974, meaning the airline has been connecting Australia with Hong Kong and the world for more than half a century. This shared history makes Sydney a fitting location for the start of Cathay’s 80th anniversary celebrations in Australia.

From a Single Plane to a Global Premium Airline

Cathay Pacific’s journey began humbly with one aircraft, a Douglas DC-3 affectionately named Betsy. From those modest beginnings, the airline has grown into a world-leading premium travel brand. Today, Cathay Pacific serves around 100 destinations worldwide and is consistently recognised for excellence in service, cabin design and overall passenger experience.

The retro aircraft that visited Sydney has now returned to Hong Kong and is scheduled to continue its anniversary journey with a stop in Brisbane, further extending the celebrations across Australia.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

Cathay Pacific’s 80th anniversary is more than a celebration of longevity. It is a tribute to innovation, international connection and a commitment to quality that has defined the airline for generations. The retro livery visit to Sydney Airport stands as a powerful reminder of how far Cathay has come, while also looking ahead to its future in global travel.

Cathay Pacific’s new Aria Suite raises benchmark for Business class travel between Melbourne and Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific
Cathay Pacific has officially launched its highly anticipated Aria Suite Business Class and all-new Premium Economy on selected flights between Melbourne and Hong Kong, starting 3 August 2025. These new cabins are featured on the airline’s retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which now operates daily on flights CX104 and CX105. Alongside the updated Business and Premium Economy offerings, refreshed Economy Class cabins are also part of the upgrade.

To celebrate this milestone, Cathay Pacific is hosting an immersive experience at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne from Thursday, 14 August to Saturday, 16 August, between 9am and 9pm. Shoppers will have the chance to explore the new Aria Suite and Premium Economy cabins firsthand. The event includes giveaways and a prize draw for a chance to win return Business Class flights for two from Melbourne to Hong Kong.

Following its Melbourne debut, the experience will travel to Westfield Chatswood Shopping Centre in Sydney from 21 to 23 August, giving Sydneysiders a similar opportunity to step inside the cabins and enter a second prize draw for return Business Class flights for two from Sydney to Hong Kong.

The Aria Suite redefines the Business Class experience with a thoughtful blend of luxury, style, and innovation. It features a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone seating configuration that offers each passenger direct aisle access and enhanced privacy. Retaining the best elements of Cathay Pacific’s existing Business Class – such as premium bedding and generous storage – the Aria Suite introduces several new features, including privacy doors, wireless charging stations, soft LED lighting, and a more intuitive cabin layout. Each suite is equipped with a 24-inch 4K screen, offering access to Asia-Pacific’s most expansive in-flight entertainment library.

As a tribute to Cathay Pacific’s Hong Kong heritage, each Aria Suite cabin includes a unique piece of art curated through the airline’s award-winning “Gallery in the Skies” program, featuring local artists who have a deep connection with the city.

Cathay Pacific
This cabin redesign is part of Cathay Pacific’s broader HK$100 billion investment into its fleet, onboard products, lounges, and digital innovation. The initiative aims to position the airline among the world’s leading premium carriers. Enhancements extend beyond seating to inflight dining, with new menus created in partnership with Michelin-starred restaurants such as Yat Tung Heen, offering a specially curated "Hong Kong Flavours" experience on selected flights. Cathay Pacific has also been named “World’s Best Economy Class” by the Skytrax World Airline Awards for two consecutive years, in 2024 and 2025.

Frosti Lau, Cathay Pacific’s Regional General Manager for Southwest Pacific, expressed excitement about the launch, stating:

“We’re thrilled to introduce our much-anticipated Aria Suite – and all-new Premium Economy – on flights to and from Melbourne. This launch reinforces Cathay Pacific’s ongoing commitment to delivering a truly exceptional level of comfort and convenience for travellers from Australia. Bringing Aria Suite to Melbourne reflects just how important the Australian market is to us. Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to elevate the Business Class experience. Cathay Pacific Touches Down Again in Adelaide: A Sky-High Reunion

Cathay Pacific
A Welcome Return to South Australia

Cathay Pacific is soaring back into the skies over Adelaide with the return of its much-anticipated non-stop service between Hong Kong and South Australia’s capital. Launching on 11 November 2025, the three-times-weekly summer seasonal service marks a significant reconnection between Cathay Pacific’s home hub and the vibrant, cultural city of Adelaide.

As part of the airline’s growing Southwest Pacific network, Adelaide becomes the eighth destination served by Cathay Pacific in the region, joining Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney for year-round service, as well as seasonal routes to Cairns and Christchurch. This renewed connection not only boosts travel options for leisure and business passengers but also reinforces Cathay’s deep historical ties to the South Australian aviation community.

A Heritage of Collaboration

Cathay Pacific’s relationship with Adelaide goes beyond tourism and transport. Since first launching passenger services to the city in 1992, the airline has maintained a meaningful partnership with Flight Training Adelaide, where its first batch of cadet pilots began their journey just two years later. More than three decades on, this relationship continues to shape the next generation of Cathay pilots, making the city a symbolic cornerstone in the airline’s history.

Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau highlighted the airline’s excitement about this return, calling Adelaide “a bustling city that holds particular significance for Cathay Pacific.” The move reinforces Cathay’s commitment to reconnecting communities, families, and businesses across the globe.

More Choices, Greater Comfort

With this route reinstated, Cathay Pacific will offer nearly 90 return flights per week across its Southwest Pacific network at the peak of the summer season. Whether passengers are heading home, planning a business trip, or exploring a new holiday destination, the airline promises seamless connectivity and top-tier service.

Flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide will be operated using the Airbus A350-900, offering a superior inflight experience. The aircraft features fully flat beds in Business Class, extra legroom in Premium Economy, and comfortable seating throughout the Economy cabin.

Flight Schedule (Local Times, Subject to Change and Approval):
CX173: Departs Hong Kong at 23:30, arrives Adelaide at 10:30+1 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays)
CX174: Departs Adelaide at 12:00, arrives Hong Kong at 17:40 (Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays)

Cargo and Connectivity

The renewed route will also benefit cargo clients. With additional belly space in the A350 aircraft, Adelaide's export markets gain increased access to Asia and beyond. These flights complement Cathay Cargo’s existing two return freighter services to the Southwest Pacific this season, strengthening Adelaide's role in global logistics.

This year alone, the Cathay Group, including low-cost carrier HK Express, will add 16 new destinations to its global network. With earlier launches in Hyderabad, Dallas, and Urumqi, and upcoming flights to Rome, Munich, Brussels, and now Adelaide, 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year in the airline’s post-pandemic recovery.

Cathay Pacific brings a redesigned lounge experience to The Bridge at Hong Kong International Airport

The Bridge
Cathay Pacific is excited to once again welcome customers to The Bridge, its much-loved lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) that has officially re-opened its doors to guests. Occupying a prime intersection at the airlineʼs home hub, The Bridge has been redesigned with a host of new, unique features as well as familiar favourites to provide customers with an elevated experience before their flights.

The reopening of The Bridge marks the first stage in Cathay Pacificʼs wider lounge enhancement plan in Hong Kong and beyond. It comes as the airline prepares for the renovation of The Wing, First ‒ which will close on 23 May and reopen in 2026 ‒ followed by The Wing, Business at its Hong Kong hub, ensuring that customers continue to enjoy a premium lounge experience during the renovation of these lounges.

Another of the airlineʼs Business class lounges, The Deck, is also being enhanced. From 21 May, The Deck will serve as an interim First class lounge during the renovation of The Wing. Eligible customers can also continue visiting The Pier, First and The Pier, Business during this time. Over the next two years, Cathay Pacific will be launching new flagship lounges in Hong Kong, Beijing and, for the very first time, New York as part of the Cathay Groupʼs over HK$100 billion investment into new aircraft, cabin products, lounges and digital innovations.

Human-centric design

Located conveniently near Departure Gate 35 at HKIAʼs Terminal 1, the newly redesigned The Bridge lounge continues Cathay Pacificʼs dedication to humancentric design and placing its customersʼ needs and wishes at the very heart of the design process. The Bridge brings together thoughtful propositions, design elements and material choices to create a residential ambiance, ensuring that customers feel welcomed, valued and cared for.

General Manager Customer Experience Design Guillaume Vivet said: “Our goal was to create a space that feels genuinely welcoming one that reflects our commitment to thoughtful, human-centric design. “From the furniture and dining to the scent and music, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance comfort and contribute to a relaxed, refined atmosphere. The result is a space where customers can truly unwind a retreat designed to enrich their journey and leave a lasting impression with every visit.”

Aesthetics

The cherry wood, framed screens and black granite and travertine at The Bridge, along with carefully selected plants, furniture pieces, and original artworks from the airlineʼs award-winning “Gallery in the Skies” concept, come together to foster a residential, cohesive and harmonious environment.

Reception

To provide an innovative and streamlined check-in process, The Bridge will soon be the first Cathay Pacific lounge that adopts a biometric check-in system, complemented by a traditional check-in desk.

Dining and Relaxation

The Bridge
The Bridge is divided into the left and right-hand sides, with the left offering Chinese favourites, and the right focused on international culinary fare.

On the left-hand side, customers can visit Cathay Pacificʼs iconic Noodle Bar serving signature dishes and all-time favourites such as wonton and dan dan noodles, and dim sum. The rotating menus are further enriched by new Chinese favourites, from main dishes such as biangbiang mian to braised beef shin with cauliflower, to vibrant salads and desserts.

In addition, this side of The Bridge features The Nook, a brand-new concept for Cathay Pacificʼs lounges that complements and extends the culinary offerings of the Noodle Bar, while also expanding the dining seating into this cosy corner. Customers can enjoy a curation of Chinese regional small plates and lighter bites, such as made-to-order savoury filled bao, crispy scallion pancakes and steaming rice rolls, and a selection of dim sum served from a custom dim sum cart.

The right-hand side boasts a dedicated space for First class customers and Cathay Diamond members to unwind in comfort and privacy while being looked after by the engaging Cathay team.

Also on this side of the lounge and part of the international offering is the Food Hall, which features front-of-house ovens for an elevated oven-to-plate concept. Wholesome, comforting and familiar, the menu boasts individual casseroles such as beef bourguignon and Provencal vegetable bakes, alongside fresh pastries, vibrant salads and desserts.

The Bar, with its impressive panoramic views of the runway, is the perfect place for customers to enjoy expertly crafted cocktails, barista coffees or a glass of Champagne while chatting with the engaging Cathay bartenders. With a dedicated relaxation area outfitted with the airlineʼs bespoke Solo Chairs, customers are treated to an elevated lounge experience unlike any other.

Cathay Pacific Takes Home Double Honors at the ATW Airline Industry Achievement Awards

Cathay Pacific
Cathay Pacific is soaring to new heights with its recent recognition at the 51st annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards by Air Transport World (ATW). The airline secured two prestigious awards, reaffirming its leadership in both cargo operations and sustainability. Cathay Cargo was named Cargo Operator of the Year, while Cathay Pacific became the first airline in Asia to receive the title of Eco-Airline of the Year. These accolades highlight the airline’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Cathay Cargo: A Global Leader in Air Freight

With Hong Kong International Airport ranked as the world’s busiest cargo hub, Cathay Cargo plays a crucial role in global trade. The airline’s efficient logistics network, cutting-edge technology, and commitment to service have earned it the title of Cargo Operator of the Year for the second time in three years.

One of Cathay Cargo’s most innovative projects is its intermodal service between Hong Kong and Dongguan, designed to streamline cargo movement between the Chinese Mainland and international markets. Additionally, advancements like the Click & Ship booking platform and enhanced tracking features for express shipments have set new industry standards. The airline is also leading the charge in digital transformation, having been the first carrier to implement IATA’s ONE Record data protocol ahead of schedule.

Sustainability at the Core of Cathay Pacific

In an era where sustainability is a top priority, Cathay Pacific’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact have not gone unnoticed. Being named Eco-Airline of the Year reflects the airline’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. One of the key initiatives driving this vision is Cathay’s Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme, which enables corporate partners to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.

Cathay has also been proactive in addressing single-use plastics, reducing its use from 7.7 pieces per passenger in 2019 to 2.6 pieces in 2024, with a goal of reaching just 1.5 pieces per passenger by the end of 2025. Additionally, all bottled water uplifted from Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific flights is now packaged in 100% recycled plastic (rPET) bottles.

A Bright Future for Cathay

These awards cement Cathay Pacific’s position as a leader in both air cargo and sustainable aviation. The airline continues to push boundaries, ensuring that its operations are not only efficient and customer-centric but also environmentally responsible. As Cathay Pacific looks toward the future, its commitment to innovation and sustainability will undoubtedly shape the next chapter of aviation.
