Jellurgal, Queenslamd, Australia,
invites you to embark on a journey of discovery and explore the secret
world of the first inhabitants of this region, the Yugambeh people.
Designed for holidaymakers and locals wishing to learn more about the
Aboriginal history of their region, Jellurgal Dreaming is an informative
and fun five hour cultural experience. Begin with a brief bus trip to
David Fleays Wildlife Park, where you will see Australian native
wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles and brolgas in their
native habitat before returning to the Jellurgal Cultural Hub in
Burleigh Heads to wander along the pristine mangrove boardwalk and learn
about the importance of these coastal tracts to the Aboriginal people.
Begin your Jellurgal trek with an ancient smoking ceremony and ochre
anointment on the beach at Burleigh Cove, performed by members of the
local Yugambeh tribe. Visit the midden and other significant Aboriginal
sites along the way. The Jellurgal trek takes 60 minutes but there is an
option to return to the Centre at the midden, 15 minutes into the
Jellurgal Dreaming Trek.
