CNN Travel to Feature Best of New Zealand

Tourism New Zealand and its International Media team has delivered another great result for the organization, with CNN’s Travel pages using information supplied to produce a New Zealand feature.

CNN Travel is CNN International’s travel website.

The story profiles 10 things New Zealand does particularly well – from coffee, food and wine to fashion, star-gazing and thermal spas.

Tourism New Zealand’s General Manager Marketing Communications, Justin Watson, says the story provides a great example of how the organization can achieve excellent media coverage of destination New Zealand, using on-line channels.

“The role of the international media team is to pitch quality destination stories to journalists who simply don’t have the time or resources to come to New Zealand to experience it first-hand.

“As such, journalists need new material that is newsy, well written, unique and can be matched with great images.

“Our team provide exactly that through both the international media website and the direct contact they have with journalists.”

Tourism New Zealand has announced it will run two of its biggest-ever trade familiarisation and training events in May, with plans to host around 440 international travel agents.

The two overlapping events will span 10 days and involve agents from the UK, Europe, North America, Mexico and Australia.

All 440 agents will take one of 24 familiarisations (famil) trips around the regions showcasing New Zealand’s tourism offering, and will participate in a day-long training workshop on how to sell New Zealand.

General Manager Marketing Communications Justin Watson says the itineraries include a wide spectrum of tourism product, and the travel agents will be escorted around the country via planes, helicopters, coaches, boats, motor-homes, trains and cars.

“The basic objective is to get as many agents to New Zealand as possible, to experience as much as they can and have an amazing time.
