All That's New and Exciting on the Gold Coast - February Update

The fun never stops at the Gold Coast and with many new and exciting things to see and do continually unveiled at Australia's favourite playground, a visit in 2013 comes highly recommended.

World-class Surfing Comes to the Gold Coast

It's an endless summer on the Gold Coast as the World's best surfers grace our coastline over coming weeks. The season proper begins in earnest with the Gold Coast's ASP World Championship Tour events, the Quiksilver and Roxy Pros. With the likes of World champions Joel Parkinson and Stephanie Gilmore, plus crowd favourites Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater all competing, the surfing community truly comes alive from 2-13 March.

Bleach Festival Will Unleash Art, Music and Good Times

Bleach* Festival, to be held 22 February to 3 March is a timely celebration of coastal culture through a series of creative arts, music and theatre events, in the direct lead up to the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro ASP World surfing events. Central to Bleach* 2013 is The Longest Wave, a conceptual theme based on a real life local story.  Back in 2002 surfer Damon Harvey was documented to have surfed a wave from Snapper Rocks to North Kirra - a distance of just under 2 km. At the time the feat was lauded by surf media around the world as one of the longest continual ocean waves ever ridden. The Longest Wave Photographic Exhibition will examine the area Damon's wave covered through an historical community exhibition and will also feature video interviews with local surfing identities as they share local stories and recollections. The Longest Wave Coastal Walk will fuse elements of promenade theatre in a guided tour of the area, while The Longest Wave Installation will see celebrated local film makers, photographers and artists interpreting the local history and their immediate environment. And that's just the beginning! The coastal influence will also infiltrate fashion, food, outdoor movie nights, art shows and more - with over 55 events, there's something for everyone. http://www.bleachfestival.com.au/events/

Unique Surf Art at Café D'bar

Keeping with the summer surf theme, The Gallery at Café D'bar will be exhibiting local artist PoTTs through until the end of March. PoTTs's exhibition titled "beachscapes" is a collection of original paint and screen on recycled timber. Very unique, PoTTs creates a beautiful composition of nostalgic surf images onto a natural fibre. He will have on display a variety of paintings, graphic designs and sculptures. D'bar is simply a combination of the best of art, food and views all in one ocean-front destination. The best of nature, with surrounding parks, beaches and recreational picnic place are on offer to compliment  www.cafedbar.com.au

Surf World Featured at Bleach

Located on the front doorstep of Surf World Gold Coast, Bleach* Boulevard is a festival in itself featuring music, theatre, workshops, the return of The Village Markets and the Alley Fish-Fry. Centred throughout the leafy thoroughfare of Tomewin St and extending to the Currumbin Beachfront, Bleach* Boulevard offers a smorgasboard of FREE entertainment. Surf World Gold Coast is hosting an exciting exhibition of surfboard art and photography during Bleach* 2013. The Art of Surfing embraces the concept of the surfboard as a canvas, presenting a rich array of retro and contemporary surf art. www.surfworldgoldcoast.com
