15% Growth in Chinese Tourism over 2013

The Outline for National Tourism and Leisure (2013-2020) was published by the Chinese State Council on Feb 18. It is a guideline for developing the consumption of tourism products. It also predicts an increase in travel's share of total consumption for both urban and rural reside

According to Shao Qiwei, minister of the National Tourism Administration, the revenue of China's tourism industry is expected to grow by another 14% this year from an estimated 2.57 trillion yuan ($413.5 billion) in 2012, of which 2.22 trillion yuan will be from the domestic market.

The ministry has set the revenue target for 2013 at 2.85 trillion yuan, an 11% increase from 2012. Revenue from outward tourism is expected to grow even faster at 15%.
