'Australia Votes' results see the sporting legend to feature at Madame Tussauds Sydney
Today, Glenn met with a team of sculptors from the UK who took over 250 different measurements along with exact colour matches of his eyes, skin tone and hair to make the final figure. Glenn also had to hold his chosen pose for approximately three hours to make sure that everything was measured precisely. The team will now fly back to the Madame Tussauds headquarters in London where they will take a further 800 hours to create and perfect Glenn's figure.
"I have achieved many milestones in my cricket career but being approached by Madame Tussauds Sydney was certainly a first. I am really overwhelmed that the nation has chosen me as their winner. This whole experience has been really interesting, so thorough and a lot of fun. I never knew how much detail went in to preparing the figures and I really want to credit the team of sculptors for the passion they showed for the entire process. I am so excited to see how the final figure will turn out", said Glenn McGrath.
As a nation, Australia has produced some of the biggest sporting heroes the world has ever seen and now Madame Tussauds Sydney is delighted to be able to give fans a chance to pay tribute to their idol.
Glenn McGrath's figure will stand proudly alongside fellow cricketers Shane Warne and Donald Bradman, although the exact pose he will strike will not be revealed until later this year. Glenn was one of the most dangerous fast bowlers of his time and holds the world record for the highest number of Test wickets by a fast bowler.
"We are thrilled that the sports zone at Madame Tussauds Sydney is going to welcome Glenn McGrath's new figure later this year. Australians live and breathe sports and are a nation of cricket fanatics. We know that they are eager to see more of their sporting heroes at the attraction and they have chosen a worthy winner in Glenn. Other sporting greats that were in the running for a spot in Madame Tussauds Sydney were Mick Fanning, Wally Lewis, Jacqueline Freney, Lauren Jackson and John Eales.
Whilst all the figures in Madame Tussauds are selected by guest research and feedback, this is the first time that the Australian public voted on which sporting hero they would like to see immortalised in wax in Sydney.
Madame Tussauds Sydney guests can look forward to the launch of Glenn McGrath's figure in June 2013.
