Burrum Heads Fishing Classic to Lure Thousands of Visitors

The popular Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic is expected to lure more than 5000 visitors to the Fraser Coast for this year’s 21st anniversary event.

Tourism Fraser Coast general manager Pip Close said the classic had become one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated events on the region’s tourism calendar with fishing enthusiasts and their families travelling from throughout South East Queensland and beyond to take part.

“This year’s classic is shaping as one of the biggest and best yet, catering for more than  1500 entrants all vying for over $45,000 in prizes including an $11,000 fishing boat package,’’ she said.

“It provides a tremendous extra incentive for families to visit the Fraser Coast for Easter, where they can fish for great prizes and enjoy the other delights of the region such as our scenic drive trails, beautiful beaches, World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, historic attractions and the newly opened Fraser Coast Cultural Centre.’’

Ms Close said Burrum Heads accommodation would again be fully booked for this year’s competition, with nearby centres including Maryborough and Hervey Bay nearing capacity also.

“There are still competition spaces and great accommodation options available but the advice would be to act fast to avoid disappointment,’’ Ms Close said.

The Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic runs from Friday March 29 to Sunday April 1st , based at the Lions Park.

The program includes a kids’ clinic, raffles and giveaways plus junior and senior prizes for heaviest bream, whiting, flathead, trumpeter, golden trevally, flounder, pike and more.
