The countdown has begun to the 2013 Yonex Australian Open Badminton
tournament which will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition
Centre from Tuesday 2 April to Sunday 7 April.
2010 Men’s Singles Champion Tien Minh Nguyen from Vietnam currently
ranked No.8 in the world, is confirmed to compete alongside more than
300 Badminton athletes from more than 30 countries.
Tien Minh, said, “I have competed in the past three Australian Open
tournaments. I have really enjoyed my time in Australia and am looking
forward to my fourth outing.”
Entries for the 2013 Yonex Australian Open close on 5 March with
Badminton Australia expecting a number of top 10 players in the Men’s
and Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles
categories to compete for the Australian Open titles, and a share in the
largest prize package of any event played in the Oceania region - a
whopping US $120,000.
Minster for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, welcomed the return
of the Yonex Australian Open Badminton series to Sydney.
“After a sell-out finals series that thrilled crowds in 2012, Sydney is
once again set to host the world’s best Badminton players during the
2013 Yonex Australian Open,” Mr Souris said.
“With an international viewing audience of over 100 million in key
tourism markets including South East Asia, the tournament, secured by
Destination NSW, continues to showcase Sydney as a must-visit
destination for world-class events,” Mr Souris said.
