Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, this spectacular concert venue has become a symbol of the city’s creative spirit. Whether attending a performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, discovering its fascinating architecture or enjoying a guided tour, Walt Disney Concert Hall offers a memorable experience for music lovers, architecture enthusiasts and travellers alike.
A Landmark That Transformed Downtown Los Angeles
Opened to the public on October 23, 2003, Walt Disney Concert Hall stands proudly on Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles. Its distinctive stainless-steel exterior features dramatic curved surfaces that reflect sunlight and create constantly changing patterns throughout the day.
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, the building is celebrated internationally for its innovative design. Its outstanding acoustics were developed by renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota, helping establish the venue as one of the world's finest concert halls.
With seating for more than 2,200 people, the building is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

An important highlight for visitors will be seeing incoming LA Phil Music Director Daniel Harding, who is scheduled to lead performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall from November 6 to 8, 2026.
Harding will take up his position as music director in the 2027/2028 season, making these performances an exciting opportunity for audiences to experience his musical leadership.
The concert programme throughout the year also features internationally recognised performers, emerging artists and special seasonal concerts, including festive holiday performances.
Discover the Extraordinary Pipe Organ
One of the most fascinating features inside the concert hall is its extraordinary pipe organ.
Created through a collaboration involving Frank Gehry and organ builders Manuel Rosales and Caspar von Glatter-Götz, the instrument is as visually distinctive as the building itself.
Unlike traditional pipe organs, where the pipes are often concealed, this remarkable instrument places its wooden pipes prominently on display. Their unusual curved shapes complement the auditorium's Douglas fir walls and ceiling.
Gehry affectionately nicknamed the distinctive pipes French fries, reflecting their unusual appearance. The organ is both an impressive architectural feature and a remarkable musical instrument.

The free self-guided audio tour is available daily from 10 am to 3 pm, without reservations. Narrated by Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor John Lithgow, it includes insights from Frank Gehry and other important contributors to the building's creation.
For a more personal experience, guided tours are conducted by knowledgeable docents. These approximately 60-minute tours explore the building's architectural highlights, interior spaces and gardens. Tours for individuals and groups of up to 14 people are free, while groups of 15 or more are charged US$15 per guest.
Tours begin in the Grand Lobby. Visitors should note that access to the main auditorium is not included because of rehearsals, performances and special events.
Make Walt Disney Concert Hall a Los Angeles Highlight
Walt Disney Concert Hall is much more than a performance venue. It is an architectural attraction, a cultural destination and a celebration of music and creativity.
For international visitors exploring Downtown Los Angeles, a visit offers the opportunity to experience one of the city's most remarkable buildings, enjoy outstanding musical performances and discover the artistic character of California's largest city.
Whether visiting for Daniel Harding's November performances, taking an architectural tour or admiring the extraordinary pipe organ, Walt Disney Concert Hall deserves a place on any Los Angeles travel itinerary.
