Ghost in the Rocks 2026: Sydney’s Spookiest Halloween Festival Returns to The Rocks

Ghost in the Rocks
Sydney is preparing for four fright-filled nights when Ghost in the Rocks returns from 29 October to 1 November 2026, transforming the historic Rocks precinct into a spectacular Halloween playground filled with spooky street entertainment, live music, themed food, immersive experiences and extraordinary costumes.

With free festival entry and Sydney Harbour providing the backdrop, this Halloween celebration offers visitors a different way to explore one of Sydney’s oldest and most atmospheric neighbourhoods.

From mysterious laneways and larger-than-life Halloween installations to markets, outdoor cinema and themed nightlife, Ghost in the Rocks promises plenty of reasons to visit Sydney during Halloween week.

Four Nights of Halloween Magic in Historic Sydney

Ghost in the Rocks
The Rocks is famous for its cobblestone laneways, heritage buildings and stories of Sydney’s early colonial history. During Ghost in the Rocks, the precinct takes on a completely different character as Halloween decorations, theatrical performances and eerie installations transform familiar streets into a haunted landscape.

Running from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, the festival brings together families, friends, costume enthusiasts and visitors looking for unusual things to do in Sydney.

The main street festival is free to enter, allowing visitors to explore the atmosphere without purchasing an admission ticket. Some special activities, food, drinks and immersive experiences incur additional charges.

Explore the Haunted Woods and Halloween Markets

First Fleet Park and Tallawoladah Lawns will host the Poliakov Haunted Woods, featuring themed entertainment, unusual creations and a lively festival atmosphere.

The Halloween markets offer opportunities to browse handcrafted products, unusual gifts, sweet treats and creative items from local makers. Visitors can enjoy the festivities while discovering the character of The Rocks and its historic surroundings.

The Poliakov main stage will feature DJs and music, bringing energy to the festival after dark.

Another attraction is Reese’s Ghoul’s Gate, where visitors can showcase their Halloween costumes and take part in a themed photographic experience. The festival also features the Halloween Parade, offering a colourful procession of elaborate costumes and spooky characters.

Discover Mysterious Bars, Cinema and Immersive Experiences

Ghost in the Rocks
For visitors seeking something more unusual, Ghost in the Rocks offers several themed experiences.

The Murder Bar and murder mystery experiences promise eerie settings, sinister stories and theatrical twists for adult audiences. The Trick or Drink trail invites participants to explore themed bars and sample specially created drinks, with advance booking recommended.

Ghost Cinema at Cadmans Cottage offers an outdoor horror movie experience under the stars, combining film screenings with immersive sound and live performers. Movie selections and age suitability should be checked before attending.

The program also includes Ireland’s Halloween Art Dark Trail, bringing artwork and storytelling to the Circular Quay and The Rocks area. The trail explores the Irish origins of Halloween through the ancient festival of Samhain, connecting visitors with the traditions behind modern Halloween celebrations.

Enjoy Halloween Food, Drinks and Local Discoveries
