Other regional attractions include the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary and family-friendly experiences on the Central Coast, including its chocolate-making attractions.
These excursions help showcase the diversity of regional New South Wales, allowing cruise visitors to experience more than one destination during their time ashore.
Newcastle Launches a Shuttle to Boost East End Tourism
A new Passenger Experience Project aims to make it easier for cruise passengers to explore Newcastle's East End and support local businesses. The initiative will operate a 24-seat shuttle bus, with services planned every 20 minutes between the Visitor Information Centre and the corner of Hunter and Watt streets. The route is designed to connect visitors with boutique retailers, galleries, cafés and restaurants.
Around 20 local businesses have already joined the initiative, offering special deals to encourage cruise passengers to explore the precinct and spend more time in the city.
The project has received support through the City of Newcastle's Special Business Rates program, which allocated funding to projects supporting local business districts.
The shuttle initiative draws inspiration from similar visitor programs in Darwin and Port Adelaide, aiming to make it easier for cruise passengers to discover local businesses while delivering economic benefits to the community.

These initiatives help passengers make the most of their time ashore while connecting them with the region's attractions and tourism businesses.
