Opening on 11 June 2027, Terracotta Warriors: Immortality & Empire will be presented exclusively at Queensland Museum Kurilpa, offering history enthusiasts, families and culture lovers an extraordinary opportunity to explore the mysteries of ancient China.
Last seen in Brisbane in 1983, these life-sized clay soldiers have fascinated audiences worldwide with their remarkable craftsmanship, military precision and connection to China’s first emperor.
Meet the Legendary Terracotta Warriors
Discovered in 1974 near Xi’an in China’s Shaanxi Province, the Terracotta Warriors are among the greatest archaeological discoveries of the twentieth century.
Created during the Qin dynasty, which ruled from 221 to 207 BCE, the thousands of life-sized figures were buried with Emperor Qin Shihuang to protect him in the afterlife. The extraordinary underground army includes soldiers, horses and other figures, each contributing to an astonishing record of ancient Chinese beliefs, military organisation and artistic achievement.
The Brisbane exhibition will feature eight monumental terracotta soldier figures, giving visitors a rare opportunity to appreciate their impressive scale and intricate details up close.

Visitors can explore objects associated with ancient warfare, daily life, craftsmanship and spiritual traditions, including animals, armour, tools and weapons made from materials such as terracotta, bronze, stone and gold.
Through lighting, projection and carefully designed exhibition spaces, the display will trace the story of the Warriors from their spiritual origins to their influence on succeeding Chinese empires.
The exhibition promises an engaging experience for visitors interested in archaeology, world history, ancient civilisations and the cultural heritage of China.
A Memorable Experience for Families and Culture Lovers
The exhibition offers an opportunity for families to bring history to life beyond the classroom. Children and adults alike can discover how ancient societies expressed their beliefs, organised their armies and created monumental works that survived for more than two millennia.
For travellers planning a cultural holiday in Brisbane, the exhibition provides another compelling reason to visit Queensland’s capital in 2027.
Visitors can combine their museum experience with Brisbane’s riverside attractions, dining precincts, cultural venues and other city experiences to create a memorable city break.
As one of the most recognisable symbols of ancient China, the Terracotta Warriors also offer an opportunity to appreciate the connections between archaeology, art, history and cultural identity.
