Qatar Airways to Launch Western Sydney International Airport Flights in December 2027

Qatar Airways
Western Sydney is set to strengthen its position as an international travel gateway, with Qatar Airways scheduled to launch flights between Doha and Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport from December 2027.

The new airline service will give travellers in Australia's third-largest economic region improved access to international destinations through Doha, one of the world's major aviation hubs. The announcement is also expected to create opportunities for tourism, business travel, employment and visitor spending across New South Wales.

Qatar Airways Connects Western Sydney with the World

Qatar Airways will operate three return services each week between Doha and Western Sydney International Airport. The flights will provide another international travel option for residents of Western Sydney and surrounding regions, potentially reducing the need for some travellers to cross Sydney to reach existing international airport terminals.

The new services are identified as QR906 from Doha to Western Sydney and QR907 for the return journey. According to the announcement, tickets are scheduled to go on sale on 19 December 2026, with the inaugural flight departing Doha on 15 December 2027.

Travellers will be able to connect through Doha to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and beyond, subject to airline schedules and onward connections.

Qatar Airways already serves an extensive international network, making the new Western Sydney route a significant addition to the region's global transport links.

A Major Boost for Western Sydney Tourism

Qatar Airways
The new flights have been secured with support from the NSW Government's Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, administered by Destination NSW.

The fund is forecast to attract more than 162,000 international visitors to NSW and generate an estimated $530 million in visitor expenditure. Increased international access could benefit hotels, restaurants, attractions, tour operators, event organisers and other tourism businesses across Sydney and regional NSW.

For overseas visitors, the new route will offer another entry point for discovering Australia's largest city, its cultural attractions, dining experiences, shopping precincts and surrounding destinations.

Western Sydney itself offers a growing range of visitor experiences, including cultural attractions, major sporting events, entertainment venues and family activities. Improved international air connectivity could encourage more travellers to explore the region rather than simply pass through it.

Supporting Business Travel and Major Events

Beyond leisure tourism, the Qatar Airways service could strengthen Western Sydney's appeal for international business visitors, conference delegates and event organisers.

Better international connectivity is particularly important as Western Sydney continues to develop its commercial, industrial and employment precincts. Easier access for overseas business travellers can support investment, trade, meetings and international partnerships.

The airport's growing role as a transport gateway also has the potential to benefit accommodation providers, transport operators and businesses serving international visitors.

More International Flights for NSW

Qatar Airways
The Qatar Airways announcement builds on previous support through the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund for new services from New Zealand, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City.

The NSW Government is working to increase the state's aviation capacity by 8.5 million seats and grow annual visitor expenditure to $91 billion by 2035.

The new route follows an updated bilateral air services agreement with Qatar secured earlier in 2026, supporting expanded aviation opportunities between the two countries.

Qatar Airways' arrival will add an important international connection as Western Sydney International prepares to welcome passengers and establish itself as a major aviation gateway.

Planning Ahead for Western Sydney International Flights

Travellers interested in flying from Western Sydney to Doha and connecting internationally should monitor Qatar Airways' official website for ticket sales, schedules, fares and connecting destinations as the launch date approaches.

With international flights expected to commence in December 2027, the new service represents an important milestone for Western Sydney's transport infrastructure and tourism future. It will provide residents with another way to reach the world while opening additional opportunities for international visitors to discover New South Wales.
