The agreement expands travel options between Melbourne, Bangkok, Muscat and Helsinki, making it easier for Australian travellers to connect with destinations across Oman, Finland and the wider European network.
The partnership also creates opportunities for travellers to experience a stopover in Muscat, the capital of Oman, before continuing their international journey.
New Melbourne to Bangkok Codeshare Connections
The new arrangement strengthens connectivity for Australian travellers departing from Melbourne, with Bangkok serving as an important connecting point between Australia and Oman.
Oman Air operates twice-daily services between Bangkok and Muscat, providing onward connections throughout its network. Travellers can access eligible itineraries using Oman Air codeshare flights operated by Finnair, as well as Finnair flight numbers on services between Melbourne and Bangkok.
These arrangements support itineraries connecting Melbourne through Bangkok to Muscat and onward destinations served by Oman Air.
For Australian holidaymakers, the expanded options provide another way to plan journeys to the Middle East and beyond, with connections subject to schedules, ticket availability and applicable fare conditions.
Improved Connections to Helsinki and Finland
The partnership also strengthens access to Helsinki, Finland's capital and an appealing destination for travellers interested in Nordic culture, architecture, design and nature.
Passengers travelling from Muscat can connect through London Heathrow, where Oman Air operates 11 flights per week. The agreement also covers Finnair-operated services to Helsinki from several major European cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Milan and Rome.
These connections offer additional flexibility for travellers planning multi-country European holidays, business trips or visits to Finland.
Helsinki provides an attractive starting point for exploring Finland's coastal scenery, lakes, forests and distinctive Nordic lifestyle. Visitors can discover the city's waterfront, design districts, museums and Finnish cuisine before travelling further into the country.
Oneworld Benefits for Eligible Frequent Flyers
The codeshare agreement provides benefits for eligible members of both airlines' loyalty programmes, including oneworld recognition, tier privileges and selected service benefits, subject to membership status and applicable conditions.
Rohan Patell, Head of Partnerships and Alliances at Oman Air, described the agreement as an important step in unlocking the value of the airline's oneworld membership and expanding opportunities to Helsinki and other destinations.
Fredrik Wildtgrube, Senior Vice President of Alliances and Airline Partnerships at Finnair, welcomed Oman Air customers and highlighted the opportunity to connect with Helsinki and discover Finland.
The airlines describe the agreement as the first phase of a broader collaboration, with further expansion under consideration. One planned development is to extend the local fare offering beyond existing European fares to include Helsinki.
Travellers should check with the airlines or their travel agent for the latest eligible routes, fare availability, baggage arrangements and frequent flyer benefits before booking.
Discover Oman with a Muscat Stopover
The partnership also provides an opportunity for travellers to consider a stopover in Muscat rather than treating the city solely as a transit point.Oman's capital combines traditional Arabian architecture, lively souks, coastal scenery and modern hospitality. Visitors can explore the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, experience the atmosphere of Mutrah Souq and discover the city's waterfront along the Gulf of Oman.
An extended stopover can turn a connecting journey into an additional holiday experience, allowing travellers to discover Oman's culture and landscapes before continuing to Europe or another destination.
Oman Air's stopover programme may provide suitable options for travellers wishing to spend additional time in the country. Availability, accommodation inclusions and eligibility should be confirmed directly with the airline.
