Join Roger Foley-Fogg for an incredible retrospective and celebration of
a life of art, activism and creativity with a series of wonderful
events and psychedelic exhibition at 107 Projects, Redfern.
Internationally exhibiting artist, sculptor, futurist, social
entrepreneur, psychedelic explorer and creative mastermind: Ellis D Fogg
is many things, but one thing ties them all together: light. Since the
60s, Roger Foley (aka Ellis D Fogg) has been weaving energy into dreams
through his lumino kinetic sculptures.
From the Mandalas of India to the façade of the MCA, Fogg’s
creations of light have helped him make his illuminated mark across the
world and across the consciousness of a generation of dreamers.
As you would expect from a creator and artist, many things have
built up over the years – not only incredible connections and a huge
sense of community, but a whole array of historically significant
artifacts and rare cultural gems, for display and for sale.
In a bizarre bazaar of the strangest type: art, posters, odd
objects, books, costumes and films from the legacy of Ellis D Fogg will
be simultaneously exhibited and sold from Friday March 15 to Easter
Monday April 1 at 107.
See costumes and fancy dress from Madam Lash, including the gownless
evening strap and her famous mink coat and from Linda Jackson a
selection of fluorescent children’s wear, shoes and the brand new never
worn fuscia skirt.
If you’re not looking to buy, come take part in the experience with a
host of performing partners and friends who have been a part of the
Fogg experience since way back when.
This eclectic selection of diverse figures includes Edwina Blush,
anachronistic jazz diva, poet and provocateuse whose work spans
sexuality to politics by way of spoken word poetry. She joins forces
with Jim Anderson, art historicist, political satirist and witty
designer whose career in art writing, urban bohemia and general
controversy led to his involvement in the London Oz magazine obscenity
trial of 1971. It has fuelled his creative practice and cultural
criticism since then.
Even more risque: the dangerous diva of Sydney’s burlesque scene
Madam Lash will join Sylvia & The Synthetics and Danny Abood for
some rather raunchy cabaret/performance art. We’ll also hear from Johnny
Allen (director of the famously psychedelic Nimbin Aquarius Festival)
and jazz songstress Jeannie Lewis over the course of the festival.
Aside from live performances, Tales From The Fogg will screen two films – OATS – Once Around The Sun and “Marinetti” Expanded.
The celebrations will culminate in a tribute to black and white
freedom on the 50th anniversary of Oz magazine, with a reading from 72
year-old storyteller performer Andreea Kindryd about her family and her
life, ‘From Slavery to Star Trek’.
This event should prove that some lights shine brighter and longer
than others – and remain as guides for others, even through the fog.
