| Thai Mueang Beach |
Nestled along Thailand’s Andaman coastline, Thai Mueang Beach in Phang Nga province has taken a significant leap onto the international stage. Recently certified under the ISO 13009:2015 standard for beach management, Thai Mueang Beach has become a shining example of how nature, community, and tourism can thrive together. Stretching across 13.6 kilometres of serene shoreline and lined with pine trees, the beach now offers visitors more than just scenic beauty — it represents a model of responsible tourism.
This certification, a globally recognized benchmark for sustainable and well-managed beach destinations, is the result of dedicated efforts by the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), local government bodies, and community partners who share a vision of raising Thailand’s tourism standards.
A Green Beacon in Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park
The beach is part of the larger Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park, which itself has been honoured with the “Excellent Green National Park” award. This prestigious accolade affirms the area’s commitment to environmental protection, sustainable visitor experiences, and conservation leadership. The park, located just 75 kilometres north of Phuket city and 60 kilometres west of Phang Nga town, is a vital green space in southern Thailand and home to diverse wildlife.Among its natural wonders, the beach is also a nesting ground for the endangered leatherback sea turtle. These ancient mariners return here annually to lay their eggs, making Thai Mueang a key location for marine conservation efforts.
International Certification for Responsible Tourism
The ISO 13009:2015 certification covers a range of sustainable tourism practices, from providing clear safety information for beach and water activities to offering environmentally friendly facilities. It also highlights effective waste management, infrastructure readiness, and public education about local ecosystems. This recognition shows that Thai Mueang Beach is not only beautiful, but also safe, sustainable, and thoughtfully maintained for both visitors and wildlife.According to Prarop Plaeng-Ngarn, Chief of Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park, the success of this initiative brings pride to the region and showcases what strong collaboration between scientific institutions, local authorities, and engaged communities can accomplish.
A Model Destination for the Future of Travel
With this latest recognition, Thai Mueang Beach positions itself as a must-visit for travelers looking to connect with nature while supporting sustainable tourism practices. From turtle conservation walks to relaxing beach days surrounded by forested landscapes, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities in harmony with the environment. As more destinations around the world aim to balance tourism with ecological preservation, Thai Mueang Beach and Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park offer a clear and inspiring example of what’s possible when stewardship and strategy go hand in hand.
