Cathay Pacific Touches Down Again in Adelaide: A Sky-High Reunion

Cathay Pacific
A Welcome Return to South Australia

Cathay Pacific is soaring back into the skies over Adelaide with the return of its much-anticipated non-stop service between Hong Kong and South Australia’s capital. Launching on 11 November 2025, the three-times-weekly summer seasonal service marks a significant reconnection between Cathay Pacific’s home hub and the vibrant, cultural city of Adelaide.

As part of the airline’s growing Southwest Pacific network, Adelaide becomes the eighth destination served by Cathay Pacific in the region, joining Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney for year-round service, as well as seasonal routes to Cairns and Christchurch. This renewed connection not only boosts travel options for leisure and business passengers but also reinforces Cathay’s deep historical ties to the South Australian aviation community.

A Heritage of Collaboration

Cathay Pacific’s relationship with Adelaide goes beyond tourism and transport. Since first launching passenger services to the city in 1992, the airline has maintained a meaningful partnership with Flight Training Adelaide, where its first batch of cadet pilots began their journey just two years later. More than three decades on, this relationship continues to shape the next generation of Cathay pilots, making the city a symbolic cornerstone in the airline’s history.

Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau highlighted the airline’s excitement about this return, calling Adelaide “a bustling city that holds particular significance for Cathay Pacific.” The move reinforces Cathay’s commitment to reconnecting communities, families, and businesses across the globe.

More Choices, Greater Comfort

With this route reinstated, Cathay Pacific will offer nearly 90 return flights per week across its Southwest Pacific network at the peak of the summer season. Whether passengers are heading home, planning a business trip, or exploring a new holiday destination, the airline promises seamless connectivity and top-tier service.

Flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide will be operated using the Airbus A350-900, offering a superior inflight experience. The aircraft features fully flat beds in Business Class, extra legroom in Premium Economy, and comfortable seating throughout the Economy cabin.

Flight Schedule (Local Times, Subject to Change and Approval):
CX173: Departs Hong Kong at 23:30, arrives Adelaide at 10:30+1 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays)
CX174: Departs Adelaide at 12:00, arrives Hong Kong at 17:40 (Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays)

Cargo and Connectivity

The renewed route will also benefit cargo clients. With additional belly space in the A350 aircraft, Adelaide's export markets gain increased access to Asia and beyond. These flights complement Cathay Cargo’s existing two return freighter services to the Southwest Pacific this season, strengthening Adelaide's role in global logistics.

This year alone, the Cathay Group, including low-cost carrier HK Express, will add 16 new destinations to its global network. With earlier launches in Hyderabad, Dallas, and Urumqi, and upcoming flights to Rome, Munich, Brussels, and now Adelaide, 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year in the airline’s post-pandemic recovery.
