| Cerith Wyn Evans |
From 6 June to 19 October 2025, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) presents a major solo exhibition by internationally acclaimed Welsh artist Cerith Wyn Evans. Located on the edge of Sydney Harbour at Circular Quay, the MCA becomes the stage for one of the most ambitious displays of sensory and conceptual art in recent years.
Known for his poetic use of light, sound and sculptural form, Cerith Wyn Evans invites visitors into a space where perception is continuously challenged and redefined. This exhibition marks the artist’s largest presentation in the Southern Hemisphere and promises to be a highlight of Sydney’s cultural calendar.
Art That Communicates Without Words
Cerith Wyn Evans began his career in experimental film before transitioning into installation art, and his cinematic sensibility remains at the core of his practice. In this exhibition, visitors will encounter a world of neon texts, suspended glass structures, and pulsating light works that seem to breathe, respond and communicate in coded language.
Through kinetic sculptures, mirrored surfaces and carefully orchestrated light sequences, the artist encourages us to slow down and pay attention to the invisible threads between space, sound, and thought. The works are at once minimal and grand, quiet and commanding.
An Immersive Experience of Time and Space
Rather than guiding viewers with a single narrative, Wyn Evans’ works unfold through movement and presence. Rooms glow with rhythmic patterns. Words hang mid-air, glowing in white neon. Subtle changes in sound and illumination create an environment that feels both scientific and spiritual.
The exhibition is designed to be experienced over time. Repeat visits are rewarded with new discoveries, as the pieces continuously shift in meaning depending on light, motion and the visitor’s own point of view.
