Cambodia Swings to Victory as Asia Pacific’s Top Golf Destination

A Hole-in-One for Cambodia at the IAGTO Asia Pacific Awards

Cambodia has officially teed off into the spotlight, earning the prestigious title of Asia Pacific Golf Destination of the Year at the 25th annual IAGTO Asia Pacific Awards. Held in Danang, Vietnam, this ceremony brought together key players in global golf tourism, with Cambodia emerging as the region’s rising star.

Awarded by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), this recognition is based on votes from more than 700 golf tour operators across 69 countries. It highlights destinations and golf courses that have consistently delivered top-tier experiences to golf travelers over the past year.

A Champion Course: Phokeethra Country Club

Adding to Cambodia’s accolades, Phokeethra Country Club was named Golf Course of the Year for Cambodia. This immaculate course, known for its blend of historical charm and championship-level design, has captivated both amateur and seasoned golfers with its lush fairways and challenging layout near the heritage city of Siem Reap.

Phokeethra’s selection underscores the country's emerging reputation for combining cultural heritage with premium golf experiences — a rare combination that sets it apart on the global stage.

A Celebration of Regional Excellence

Cambodia’s victory was one of several highlights during the awards gala, which took place on the final night of the 11th Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC). The event attracted a record 450 delegates from 33 countries, confirming its status as a key networking and industry platform for golf tourism.

Other winners of the night included:
  • Indonesia: Damai Indah Golf
  • Malaysia: Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club
  • Thailand: Alpine Golf Club
  • Vietnam: Hoiana Shores Golf Club

In addition, Sri Lanka was honored as the Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year, signaling a growing interest in lesser-known golfing regions across Asia Pacific.

Recognising Leadership in Golf Tourism

Special awards for outstanding contributions to the golf tourism industry were also presented. Danang City received recognition for its strategic promotion of golf tourism, while the Sheraton Grand Danang Resort & Convention Center and Legend Danang Golf Resort were jointly acknowledged for excellence in hosting and infrastructure.

Peter Walton, IAGTO’s Chief Executive, remarked on the significance of these awards: “IAGTO is renowned for recognising only a select few deserving golf destinations and resorts each year. To be able to present these accolades in person among so many industry leaders was a true privilege.”

Cambodia on Course for Global Recognition

Cambodia’s triumph signals more than a moment in the sun. It represents a country that is steadily crafting its identity in the world of golf tourism, blending world-class courses with rich cultural experiences. With rising international recognition and a focus on quality and hospitality, Cambodia is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts worldwide.
