Explore the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk – A Journey Through Time

Adventure seekers and nature lovers are heading to the Tweed Byron Hinterland for one of the region’s most exciting new attractions: the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk. Translating to "Old People's Track" in the Widjabul Wia-bal language, this 42-kilometre multi-day trail winds through Gondwanan rainforests, ancient volcanic ridges, and the culturally rich landscapes of Mount Jerusalem and Nightcap National Parks.

Whether you’re embarking on a self-guided adventure or opting for a fully hosted tour with local guides, this immersive hike offers a rare opportunity to connect deeply with Country. The trail, located within the Whian Whian State Conservation Area, showcases the biodiversity and deep heritage of the region. With panoramic lookouts, tranquil forest floors, and stories embedded in every footstep, this is a walk that goes far beyond the physical.

Margaret Olley’s Legacy Lives On at Tweed Regional Gallery

One of Australia’s most beloved artistic figures is being honoured in powerful new ways at the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre. The gallery has recently acquired Ben Quilty’s Archibald Prize-winning portrait of his friend and mentor, Margaret Olley—a stirring, vivid piece that captures the spirit of the legendary artist.

To mark this momentous addition, the gallery is presenting Painting Life: Margaret Olley and Works from the Collection, an exhibition running from 15 June to 31 August 2025. Visitors will also be able to view eleven newly unveiled still life works by Quilty, inspired by Olley’s life and studio practice.

Art lovers won’t want to miss the opening gala on Saturday 14 June, where Quilty himself will be in attendance. The event will celebrate both the arts and the region’s culinary excellence, featuring local sips from Husk Distillery, Earth Beer Company and Ventura Kombucha, and fine bites from Apex Dining.
