Cambodia Swings into the Spotlight as Asia Pacific’s Top Golf Destination

Asia Pacific Golf Destination of the Year
A Landmark Victory at the IAGTO Asia Pacific Awards

Cambodia has secured a major win on the global golf tourism stage, being named Asia Pacific Golf Destination of the Year at the prestigious 25th annual IAGTO Asia Pacific Awards. The announcement was made during the closing gala of the 11th Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) in Danang, Vietnam, which brought together 450 delegates from 33 countries in celebration of the best in Asia-Pacific golf travel.

This milestone marks a significant step forward for Cambodia as it emerges as a serious contender in international golf tourism. The recognition comes from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), whose 700+ members across 69 countries vote on the destinations, resorts, and courses that offer the best experiences for golf travelers.

Phokeethra Country Club Leads the Way for Cambodia

Cambodia’s rise in the rankings is closely tied to its standout golf venues, with Phokeethra Country Club earning the title of Cambodia Golf Course of the Year. This acclaimed course is part of the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort in Siem Reap, a destination that blends championship golf with rich cultural exploration, thanks to its proximity to the majestic temples of Angkor.

Phokeethra Country Club is known for its lush layout, immaculate fairways, and a design that incorporates traditional Khmer heritage elements, offering a unique playing experience that captivates both novice and seasoned golfers.

A Region on the Rise in Golf Tourism

Other award-winning courses across Southeast Asia included Indonesia’s Damai Indah Golf, Malaysia’s Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club, Thailand’s Alpine Golf Club, and Vietnam’s Hoiana Shores Golf Club. These recognitions reflect the growing strength and diversity of the Asia Pacific golf scene, where natural beauty and innovative course design go hand in hand.

Sri Lanka was also in the spotlight, earning the Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year award for the region, signaling a growing interest in emerging golf locations that combine adventure with exclusivity.

Why Golfers are Turning to Cambodia

Cambodia’s golf appeal lies in its seamless fusion of sport, culture, and hospitality. With world-class courses nestled near iconic historical sites, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it offers a golfing experience that goes far beyond the fairways. The country is investing in infrastructure and international events to attract golf travelers, and the IAGTO recognition is expected to boost its visibility and popularity even further.

A Bright Future for Golf Tourism in Cambodia

With this accolade, Cambodia has firmly positioned itself as a must-visit destination for golf lovers in Asia. The award also underscores the nation’s potential for sustainable tourism growth, combining premium golf offerings with its rich cultural and natural assets.

As the global golf community turns its attention to Southeast Asia, Cambodia’s vibrant mix of tradition, hospitality, and modern golf excellence is ready to impress.
