Calypso Grows as Tropical Journeys Eyes Outer Great Barrier Reef

Calypso will continue to build on its reputation as one of the leading providers of personalised and individual outer reef experiences following the commission of a new luxury vessel that will arrive in Port Douglas this month (May).

Calypso Blue is an important addition to Tropical Journey's diverse range of tour experiences and has been custom designed to offer the very best in comfort with spacious decks, day-bed style seating, air-conditioned saloons and submerged platforms to allow for easy access to and from the water for both snorkellers and divers.

Tropical Journeys director Graham Jones said Calypso Blue would join the growing number of vessels under the Calypso name, giving the locally owned and operated company the ability to offer a broad range of reef tours to its customers.

“Calypso Blue will allow us to fulfil our long-term vision to not only offer outer reef experiences to Opal and Tongue Reefs, which we have successfully been operating for more than 15 years, but now also Agincourt Reef, following the acquisition last year of Aristocat's permit.

“There is a lot of depth to the products we offer and we are especially proud to be the only locally owned company to visit Agincourt.

“We are sure customers will enjoy Calypso's hospitality that we have staked our reputation on. For us, it is all about offering minimum guest numbers but maximum experience with small personalised snorkelling tours, highly qualified dive instructors, gourmet buffet lunch, high quality equipment and much more.”

Mr Jones said customers would also receive a discount, when booking more than one tour experience. “Why not experience as much of the reef as possible? No reef is the same and people now have the opportunity to enjoy a number of different sites at a great price.”

Other tour products owned by the Jones' family under Tropical Journeys' umbrella include Aquarius, one of the most modern and luxurious sail boats to operate out of Port Douglas to The Low Isles on the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Tours and Escape Charters, offering private day charters.

Mr Jones said all Calypso vessels were new and custom built for the company. Built in 2013, Bubbles is 20-metre vessel that can accommodate both snorkellers and divers with the option of being a dedicated snorkelling vessel if necessary. Bubble's sister, Calypso is also a purpose built 25-metre catamaran, ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. “Guests absolutely love Calypso's spacious upper and lower foredecks designed with comfortable day bed seating to maximise outdoor relaxation with the top deck providing breathtaking 360 degree views of the reef.”

Calypso also offers a dedicated snorkel only boat - Calypso Snorkelling, which features personalised snorkelling tours with a maximum number of 38 guests.
