Sa Kaeo Provincial Administration Office are jointly organising the “9th Seniors World Cup 2014” from the 2-7 June in the province of Sa Kaeo.
This annual sporting competition is part of the TAT-backed “International Recreation for Tourism Project”, which aims to promote Thailand to the world as a major sports tourism destination. This year’s much-anticipated event is expected to attract 350 footballers and football fanatics from around the world.
Mr. Apichart Intharapongpan, Deputy Governor for Policy and Planning of TATsaid, “Sports tourism is set to become a key marketing strategy for TAT in its ongoing drive to attract new and more diverse visitors to Thailand. This Seniors World Cup 2014 provides an excellent opportunity for people to come and make use of our high-quality sporting facilities and enjoy some great sporting action. We know that it is events like these that will make Thailand a preferred destination for sporting events.”
The 9th Seniors World Cup 2014 in Sa Kaeo will see matches played by eight enthusiastic teams hailing from England, Scotland, Australia, Iran, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Taiwan and home-team Thailand.
On top of the fun and friendly football matches in the competition, all players and participants get the chance to explore the region through specially-designed tour programmes that showcase the main tourist attractions and activities in Sa Kaeo. Among the delights to be enjoyed are the chance to see performances of Thai dramatic arts and Muay Thai exhibitions. In addition, everyone will get to enjoy delicious examples of the local Thai food and experience a Thai traditional massage.
TAT estimates that the six-day event will help generate tourism revenue of more than 10 million Baht for Sa Kaeo and nearby provinces.
The Thailand’s Seniors World Cup was held for the first time in 2006 in Phuket with the aim of raising funds to help victims of the 2004 tsunami and their families. The event was a great success and so has since been held annually, and rotated to different locations in the kingdom.
