Wilson Prom, A Small Slice of Heaven

The only way to experience Wilson Promontory is on foot, literally as the 30km scenic drive through the park to Tidal River is the only road access which means there is no other choice but walk. The trip departs in November which is one of the best times of the year, from both a weather and lack of crowds perspective and will suit those people who just love 'walking'.

Wilsons Promontory, or “The Prom” as it is affectionately known, is where the forest meets the sea. It is a vast granite promontory that teems with wildlife and offers walkers endless opportunities to explore. There are rocky headlands, remote beaches, idyllic coves, coastal bushlands, picturesque rivers, tall eucalypt forest and more. The coastal tracks climb several lofty peaks that offer spectacular panoramas offer magnificent views. The Prom's stunning beaches are also one of the highlights.

There is also a lot of wildlife including wombats, koalas, wallabies, emus and numerous birds. The tremendous breadth of scenery on offer makes this park extremely popular, so we've chosen a time of year that is fabulous for walking but avoids the busy tourist season.

As a complete contrast we'll also head inland to the historic gold mining area of Walhalla. We'll hike amongst the maze of huge granite tors of Mushroom Rocks on a section of the Australian Alps Walking Track and then climb Mt Erica on the Baw Baw Plateau. We will also visit the impressive Thomson Dam and take some time out to explore the historic relics at Walhalla.
