Celebrating 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties Through Travel

Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has launched a renewed effort to deepen cross-border tourism ties with neighboring Quang Ninh Province in Vietnam. At a recent event in Guilin, cultural and tourism officials, scholars, and media representatives from both countries gathered to explore new pathways for collaboration that go beyond borders.

This initiative, held as part of the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchange, highlights the power of tourism as a tool for mutual understanding, cultural preservation, and economic development.

The “Ho Chi Minh China-Vietnam Friendship Guangxi Tour”

One of the key announcements of the event was the upcoming launch of the “Ho Chi Minh China-Vietnam Friendship Guangxi Tour.” This specially curated travel route will connect historically significant locations and cultural landmarks in both Guangxi and Quang Ninh. By tracing the footsteps of key moments in the countries’ shared past, the tour seeks to inspire a sense of unity and remembrance while promoting cultural exchange.

The route will feature memorials, museums, and heritage sites important to both Chinese and Vietnamese history, serving as a living classroom for travelers who wish to engage more deeply with the stories that have shaped the region.

Education and Innovation Drive Tourism Cooperation

As part of the multi-day event, delegates from Quang Ninh participated in field visits and academic discussions in Guilin, Liuzhou, and Nanning. Topics ranged from tourism education and talent development to cross-border marketing strategies and sustainable travel practices.

Yang Shasha, vice-president of Guilin Tourism University, underscored the university’s central role in advancing tourism talent in the China-ASEAN region. By cultivating professionals with a global perspective, the institution aims to contribute meaningfully to the tourism industry’s evolution, especially in areas where cooperation across nations is vital.

From Culture to Connectivity

This partnership is more than a celebration of diplomatic longevity — it’s a blueprint for future collaboration. Vietnamese delegates were given opportunities to gain insights into Guangxi’s unique local customs, explore its tourism assets, and engage in dialogue with Chinese counterparts. The initiative fosters not only mutual learning but also regional connectivity, with a shared vision of enhancing service quality and cultural exchange in the cross-border travel experience.

For both China and Vietnam, tourism serves as a bridge linking communities and economies. By tapping into their rich cultural legacies and aligning on development goals, these neighboring nations are laying the foundation for a more integrated and inclusive tourism future.

Looking Ahead

With increasing interest in culturally immersive travel and heritage-based tourism, initiatives like this represent a meaningful shift toward cooperative models. The emphasis on education, sustainability, and mutual respect is setting the tone for what cross-border tourism in Asia could look like in the years to come.
