One of the most interesting ways to enjoy winter is to see a recreation of a historic village carved entirely out of snow!


Located in the snowy region of Yamagata, Gassan-Shizu hosts the annual Yuki Hatago Akari Festival (late Feb to early Mar), where locals construct a lane of historic buildings out of fresh snow. 

Enter the snow lodges and enjoy drinks at the ice bar, all built entirely out of ice and snow. The snow village is extremely charming at night when illuminated by candlelight.

*This year's event will be held from February 5th to 27th, available only to guests staying the night. The operation of the ice bar is subject to change depending on the weather conditions.
