Dogo Onsen’s traditional hot springs

You may recognise Dogo Onsen by its most famous bathhouse – the Honkan, with its distinctive curved roof and ornate architecture. 

Built in 1894 and recently renovated, the bathhouse’s wooden interior is a combination of stairways, passages, and rooms once reserved for the royal family. 

As one of Japan’s oldest hot spring areas, why not spend the night at one of Dogo Onsen’s traditional hot spring inns or hotels? 

You can get here from the city centre via the Botchan Train, a nostalgic “matchbox” steam train.
