Experience the thrill of breaking through drift ice in the Okhotsk Sea on board the Garinko Go! Monbetsu in northern Hokkaido is famous for drift ice cruises, where large icebreaker ships regularly depart between January and March. 

Onboard the Garinko Go, you can see the ice from Russia wash up on the shores of Hokkaido from the upper deck. 

Alternatively, head to the front of the vessel to see the mechanism that breaks the ice on the lower deck.

 The excursion is definitely worth bundling up for!
