Kinzanbashi Stone Bridge

Kinzanbashi bridge
Enjoy the view of waterfalls framed by the beautiful Kinzanbashi bridge in Kagoshima prefecture’s Aira City.

The stone bridge was built around 1879 by French engineers, commissioned by the powerful Shimazu clan at the time of Kagoshima’s modernisation during the Meiji era.

Stretching 23m long, the bridge spans the terraced Amikake River which flows downstream in a series of small waterfalls.

There is a walking path along the riverbank that offers a great vantage point of the bridge and the falls behind it.
