New Zealand Expects More Indian Visitors in Summer

Tourism New Zealand is working to drive high value visitors in their shoulder season, encouraging Indian families to ditch the Asian heat for a cool New Zealand holiday.

The new joint venture with Singapore Airlines works to position New Zealand as the ultimate family destination for travellers during India’s hot summer period, when many Indian families are already looking to travel overseas.

Launched at the beginning of February the campaign will run for four weeks targeting travel between March – September, coinciding with the Indian school holidays.

“The timing of India’s summer with the New Zealand winter also provides a great opportunity to position New Zealand as a travel option to escape the summer heat,” says Regional Manager South and South East Asia Mischa Mannix-Opie.

Indian arrivals have been steadily increasing with visitor arrivals up 5.6 per cent YE December 2012, demonstrating the potential for growth in the market.

“New Zealand traditionally attracts a higher value visitor from India, travellers with disposable incomes who are looking to travel further and do more. As a result India is well suited to promote premium activities and experiences to providing added value to the New Zealand tourism industry,” says Mischa.

New Zealand is increasingly being seen as a desirable premium destination in India and was recently named in The Hindu Metro Plus list of top 10 destinations to travel to in 2013.
The campaign promotes attractive packages flying into Auckland and Christchurch with Singapore Airlines or Silk Air.
