TAT Celebrates Grand Moment in Welcoming Marriage Equality: A Milestone for Thailand’s LGBTQ+ Tourism

Thailand
Thailand has marked a historic and joyous milestone with the enactment of its marriage equality law, which officially took effect on 23 January 2025. This landmark moment was celebrated nationwide as 1,754 LGBTQ+ couples registered their marriages, heralding a new chapter in Thailand's commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and equality.

A Grand Celebration of Love

In a vibrant and heartfelt celebration, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) took the opportunity to showcase Thailand’s role as Asia's leading LGBTQ+ tourism destination. TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool remarked on the significance of the law’s enactment, saying, “The marriage equality law marks a major milestone for our tourism industry. It reflects our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusivity, strengthening Thailand’s position as a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ+ community. This is a key highlight of the ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025,’ reinforcing Thailand’s readiness to embrace all travellers with warmth and equality.”

The “Grand Celebration of Law” took place in numerous parts of the country, with celebrations, special events, and promotions running from 23 January through February – the Month of Love. The festivities showcase Thailand's inclusive spirit, where every traveller, regardless of background or identity, is invited to experience the rich culture and warm hospitality the country is known for.

Marriage Equality Day at Siam Paragon

The celebration kicked off in grand style at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, where over 300 LGBTQ+ couples officially registered their marriages in an inspiring ceremony. The venue was transformed into a hub of love and inclusivity, featuring a grand wedding parade, exhibitions, thought-provoking discussions, a Pride Carpet, and lively performances that brought together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate love and equality. This event underscored Thailand's growing role as a beacon for LGBTQ+ rights in Asia.

Hua Hin Grand Inter Pride 2025

As part of the celebrations, Hua Hin hosted the Grand Inter Pride 2025, a romantic getaway for 23 couples who traveled by special train to Bluport Hua Hin for marriage registrations. The celebration also included exclusive honeymoon packages and luxury experiences for the couples, including a Sunset Celebration River Cruise on the majestic Chao Phraya River, complete with sparkling wine and delicious snacks.

Nationwide Celebrations and Promotions

Throughout the month, TAT has partnered with both public and private sectors to offer exclusive promotions, discounts, and special packages for LGBTQ+ couples across Thailand. From luxury honeymoon packages in Chiang Mai, featuring relaxing spa treatments, to free gifts for the first 100 couples in Chanthaburi, the celebrations continue to spread the message of love and inclusivity throughout the country.

In Northeastern Thailand (Isan), special events, dining discounts, and travel packages are available in Kalasin, Udon Thani, Roi Et, and Buri Ram, while Southern Thailand highlights include the historic first LGBTQ+ marriage registrations on Ko Samui and romantic sunset cruises in Krabi. For couples seeking something truly unique, the Trang Underwater Wedding Festival 2025 (13-15 February) offers a magical underwater wedding experience, symbolizing the merging of two lives in the depths of the Andaman Sea.

A Global Focus on LGBTQ+ Tourism

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote Thailand as a top LGBTQ+ destination, TAT will host the Amazing Thailand LGBTQ+ Trade Meet and Fam Trip in February. This event will bring tourism operators and influencers from the Americas and beyond to experience Thailand’s LGBTQ+ offerings and strengthen the "Amazing Thailand" brand globally.
