Leura Gardens Resort celebrates 50 years of Fawlty Towers with live theatre dinner tributes throughout 2025

Fawlty Towers
Leura Gardens Resort in the Blue Mountains is paying homage to Fawlty Towers, the most famous TV show made about the trials and tribulations of operating a hotel, which first screened 50 years ago in 1975.

John Cleese and Connie Booth wrote Fawlty Towers about a fictional hotel in Torquay ‘run’ by rude, aggressive owner Basil Fawlty, his domineering wife Sybil, put-upon Spanish waiter Manuel, and chambermaid Polly, and featuring the eccentric guests that made the mistake of booking the hotel.

While the two series only produced 12 episodes, the show’s comic legacy has lived on and will be revived by Leura Gardens Resort throughout 2025 in Faulty Towers – The Dining Experience.

The first live performance will be staged on Friday, 28 March, inspired by the four principal characters from the show and played by a troupe of highly talented actors who pay tribute to the program’s origins while improvising with diners who become part of a very interactive evening.

Future shows during 2025 are scheduled for Friday 11 April, Thursday 29h May, Wednesday 11 June, Friday 25 July, and Thursday 14th August.

The Faulty Towers Dining Experience is one of Australia’s most successful theatre exports. Since launching in 1997, the show has toured the world, clocking up performances in 43 countries, with over one million guests playfully assaulted by Basil and his hapless attempts to ‘manage’ the evening’s event.

Producer Jared Harford says, “Faulty Towers The Dining Experience has become a global phenomenon, and we’re delighted to bring the mayhem back to the Blue Mountains at Leura Gardens Resort. There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years of Fawlty Towers than by sharing the laughs, chaos, and brilliance of Basil, Sybil, and Manuel with fans across the country.”

Unlike the hotel that inspired John Cleese and Connie Booth’s acerbic scripts, Leura Gardens Resort will serve an exceptional three-course meal in between the mayhem and mishaps that confront the cast. With a perfect mix of fine dining and farcical fun, Faulty Towers – The Dining Experience is an unmissable experience for fans of classic British humour.

Leura Gardens Resort previously staged Faulty Towers dinners back in the 2000s, and with its heritage gardens, old-world elegance, and resort-style, it is the perfect venue for rediscovering the classic old lines and rich humour.

As well as welcoming back this beloved event, Leura Gardens Resort itself is undergoing a fresh new transformation under new ownership and management. With its beautiful surroundings and superbly manicured gardens, the resort has been thoughtfully revitalised, offering guests a refreshed and elevated experience while maintaining its signature Blue Mountains charm.

Bookings for dinner and show are just $95 per person and special arrangements can be made for groups.
Combining the dinner show with accommodation at the resort makes for a perfect weekend getaway, with guarantees of no Manuel or Basil in sight to disrupt a relaxing weekend taking in the Blue Mountains air. Rates start from $188 per night, per room.
