Captain Cook Cruises Sydney is celebrating a remarkable 55 years of excellence on Sydney Harbour, marking half a century of providing unforgettable experiences to millions of guests. The cruise operator, part of the SeaLink Marine & Tourism family, kicked off its milestone celebrations with a series of exclusive events, competitions, and special offerings that will continue throughout 2025. This celebration not only highlights the company's rich history but also looks ahead to a future grounded in sustainability and innovation.

Founded in 1970 by Trevor and Geraldine Haworth, Captain Cook Cruises quickly became an iconic name in Australian tourism. What began as a family-run business has grown into a key player in the tourism sector, now operating as part of the SeaLink Marine & Tourism network, a subsidiary of Kelsian Group, Australia’s largest integrated multi-modal transport and tourism operator. Despite its expansion, Captain Cook Cruises has remained deeply committed to its core values of high-quality service, innovation, and a profound respect for the cultural and natural heritage of Sydney Harbour.

General Manager Nick Lester reflected on the company’s incredible journey, stating, "As we celebrate 55 years, we reflect on how Captain Cook Cruises has become a part of so many special memories for our guests." He continued, "While our 50th anniversary celebrations were delayed due to COVID, this milestone gives us the opportunity to honor a rich history and our unwavering dedication to providing world-class experiences."

Over the years, Captain Cook Cruises has welcomed numerous high-profile guests, including Pope Benedict, President George Bush, and the Spice Girls. These landmark moments have solidified the company’s place as a central figure in Sydney’s tourism industry, attracting visitors from around the globe to experience the beauty and charm of Sydney Harbour.

Looking toward the future, Captain Cook Cruises is embracing innovation and sustainability as core pillars of its continued success. The company has forged partnerships with Indigenous leaders, including Gadigal elder Aunty Margaret Campbell, to deepen visitors' understanding of the Aboriginal history of Sydney Harbour. These efforts have led to the introduction of new smartphone commentary available in seven languages, alongside a Sydney Harbour map featuring Indigenous Gadigal place names, all aimed at enriching the visitor experience.

Additionally, artist Alysha Menzel has created a bespoke artwork that depicts the stars which guided Captain Cook to Sydney Harbour in 1788. This artwork will be proudly displayed on the flagship vessel, Sydney 2000. The company is also making strides in sustainability, partnering with the SeaBin project to reduce plastic waste and protect the natural beauty of the harbour, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy its splendor.

To celebrate its 55th anniversary, Captain Cook Cruises is launching a series of competitions and special offers throughout 2025. The "Cruising Down Memory Lane" social media contest invites guests to share their favourite photos and memories for a chance to win $550 in Cruise Cash each month, with a grand prize of $5,500 to be awarded at the end of the year. Captain’s Club members will also have multiple opportunities to win, with monthly draws for $550 in Cruise Cash and a Grand Finale prize of $5,500 for those who cruise in 2025. Throughout the year, guests will have access to special events, exclusive offers, and commemorative memorabilia.

As Captain Cook Cruises Sydney celebrates its 55-year milestone, the company continues to pave the way for a sustainable, inclusive future in Australian tourism while remaining committed to delivering exceptional experiences on one of the world’s most beautiful harbours.
