Largest dinosaur bones found in Argentina

Largest bones of a dinosaur have been found in Argentina, it is believed to be the largest creature on Earth. According to palaeontologists the bones found are from the thigh area and measure 40m (130ft) long and 20m (65ft) tall.

The bones are as heavy as 14 African elephants and weigh about 77 tonnes. These bones are of the new species of titanosaur – an enormous herbivore dating from the Late Cretaceous period, seven tonnes heavier than the previous record holder, Argentinosaurus.

The fossil was discovered by a farmer who stumbled on the remains of the dinosaur bone near La Flecha, about 250km (135 miles) west of Trelew, Patagonia.

150 Partial skeletons of seven individuals were unearthed. Its length, from its head to the tip of its tail, was 40m, standing 20 m high about the height of a seven-storey building.

This giant herbivore lived in the forests of Patagonia between 95 and 100 million years ago, based on the age of the rocks in which its bones were found. The dinosaur will be named probably after the farmer who found the bone.
