NSW, Australia, has plenty of major events planned in the coming months for locals and visitors. A new Events Calendar has been unveiled, outlining the impressive selection of world-class sporting, arts and culture, lifestyle and regional events that will rock the state from September 2013 to June 2014.
The new calendar features events in both Sydney and regional NSW, inspiring locals and visitors alike to mark up their diaries, bring their family and friends, and take part in the festival atmosphere.
Destination NSW CEO, Sandra Chipchase, said, "We're extremely proud of our new Events Calendar, which further bolsters NSW's position as a premier events capital. We have an extensive schedule of fantastic events in both Sydney and regional NSW throughout the year, offering something for everyone - sport, music, arts, theatre, motoring, lifestyle and more."
Sydney Does it First
This year, there are a number of exclusive 'firsts' for NSW, with brand new events including:- Corroboree Sydney. An annual Sydney festival, and Australia's largest national Indigenous arts and cultural festival. To be held for the first time this year in various locations along the Harbour foreshore from 14-24 November.
- Monster Jam - the Australian Premiere. The fastest growing motorsports property in the world, appearing in an exclusive one-off Sydney show on 19 October. See the giant-sized trucks face-off in a variety of racing and freestyle competitions - a must for any motor enthusiast.
- Sydney International Art Series - War is Over! (if you want it). The legendary work of artist Yoko Ono will be on display at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the Sydney international Art Series. The show features five decades of artwork and is Ono's first solo show in Australia. From 15 November.
- Opening Series, Major League Baseball. For the first time in 100 years, Major League Baseball will be played on Australian soil, with the first games of the opening series in Sydney. Held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 22-23 March 2014.
- Strictly Ballroom The Musical. Baz Luhrmann's iconic Australian film will be brought to life on stage in the world premier, at Sydney's Lyric Theatre starting in March 2014.
Regional NSW Highlights
Visitors are encouraged to go further afield, book a short break, and embrace the festive spirit in many of NSW's regional towns. A few event highlights include:- Deniliquin Ute Muster. Two days of non-stop entertainment live on the Plains. 4-5 October.
- Lord Howe Island Art Trail. NSW island paradise. Visit five studios and meet the local island artisans. 1-6 December.
- National Cherry Festival. A three-day celebration in the town of Young in celebration of the ruby red fruit season. 6-8 December.
- Tastes of the World Beer Festival. Newcastle's international ale extravaganza. 11-12 January.
- Byron Bay International Film Festival. Screening a dynamic range of films from around the world. 28 February - 9 March.
- Emirates Park Scone Cup Carnival. Australia's biggest country horse racing carnival. 16-17 May
