WUPA@Wanaruah Aboriginal Art Exhibition Launched

The 2013 WUPA@Wanaruah Aboriginal Art Exhibition has just been launched. It is is an initiative of Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation, a not-for-profit community organisation based in Singleton that services the Upper Hunter. The event showcases the work of Aboriginal artists of the Hunter Valley region.

Held across multiple venues in the Hunter Valley Wine Region, the 2013 WUPA@Wanaruah Aboriginal Art Exhibition runs from 21 September to 31 October 2013.

“The six-week long WUPA exhibition, featuring 20 local Aboriginal artists, allows visitors to follow an Aboriginal Art Trail with a dynamic and evolving program, including visual art exhibitions and workshops. It is providing an educational and cultural experience that is unique to the Hunter,” Member for the Upper Hunter and Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris said.

“This is an exceptional opportunity to display the wonderful work of local Aboriginal artists as well as showcase this beautiful region to visitors.”

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Hon Victor Dominello MP said: “The seven participating venues for this year’s WUPA event are within close proximity, enabling people to visit each venue and experience the true diversity of the exhibition while they explore the famous Hunter Valley Wine Region.

“Each venue will feature an artist in residence, who aside from having their work displayed will make themselves available for a series of workshops throughout the period of the exhibition.”

Indigenous art movement that is an important milestone on the NSW Regional Calendar.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to view the works of Aboriginal artists and participate in workshops as well as enjoy exploring the spectacular Hunter region and its attractions.”

This year the WUPA@Wanaruah art exhibtiion will run from 21 September to
31 October across the following venues:
  • Brokenwood
  • Broke’s Promise Estate
  • Crowne Plaza 
  • Hunter Valley Resort
  • Lambloch Wines
  • Lindemans Wines

After the 6-week art exhibition ends on October 31, you will still be able to see artwork at the Hunter Wetlands centre, Broke's Promise Estate, Crowne Plaza, Hunter Resort and Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation.
