Phu Bai Airport to Re-open

The Phu Bai International Airport in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue in Vietnam will be re-opened on tomorrow on September 20 after a five-month upgrade.

The VND600 billion (USD28.2 million) upgrading project includes the repair of runaway, traffic signals, airfield and terminal.

After its temporary closure, the airport will be capable of receiving mid-size aircraft like Airbus A321 and affording three boarding gates in peak hours.

Under a plan approved by the Government, the Phu Bai airport will be further upgraded to handle 20 airplanes in peak hours and five million passengers a year by 2020.

The re-operation of the airport is good news for the province as it is preparing for the 20 th anniversary of the recognition of the Hue ancient imperial relics as a World Cultural Heritage site on September 21st.
