Cairns Creativity Showcased in 2012 Cairns Festival

Cairns
Nestled between the World Heritage listed attractions of wet tropics rainforest and Great Barrier Reef, the Cairns region greets its early spring guests with a tropical warmth that extends beyond the climate. Cairns Festival aims to share its lifestyle with visitors, who on arrival, are invited to soak up the bevy of culture and entertainment on offer between Friday 17 August and Sunday 2 September, 2012.

Unlike any other festival in Australia, Cairns Festival can be identified by its diverse, multi-dimensional program of free and ticketed events spanning dance, theatre, film, literary arts and  collaborations.

Cairns Regional Council's Creative Cairns Manager Leslie Sparkes said the 2012 Cairns Festival program would include events at key cultural hubs, such as Cairns Civic Theatre, Tanks Arts Centre, Centre of Contemporary Arts and Cairns Esplanade precinct.

Along with a line-up of new events, Cairns Festival's 2012 program will feature a number of annual highlights - namely Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, opening Grand Parade and fireworks, 'Esplanart' outdoor exhibition of visual art, Tropical Pride Festival, Carnival on Collins, Muddy's Art Village for children and more.

"Along with producing a program that reflects Cairns' sense of place while driving tourism, our major objective in 2012 is to boost Festival's presence; to provide greater visibility throughout our city and surrounds. After all, we want absolutely everyone - locals and visitors alike - to know the festival is on."

Cairns Festival is supported and presented by Cairns Regional Council with generous support from event partners and sponsors.  For more information, http://www.cairnsfest.com.au/
