August Events and Festivals in Western Australia


Act Belong Commit Avon Descent
August 4 to 5
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Act Belong Commit Avon Descent is Western Australia's own unique sporting event attracting competitors and spectators from across Australia and around the globe. Competitors pass through some of the State's most picturesque countryside as they take on the world's longest white water event over two days and 124 gruelling kilometres.

Nameless Jarndunmunha Festival
August 10 to 12
The week-long festival takes place in the Hamersley Ranges at the base of the Jarndunmunha Mountain. The event includes a cocktail party, exhibits, carnival, stalls, parades, fireworks, races, competitions, interactive activities and entertainment.

Morawa Art Show & Exhibition
August 10 to 18
The Wheatbelt farming town of Morawa is the ideal host for a week-long regional art exhibition, showcasing works from local, young and Indigenous artists. With more than 300 entries expected, the Morawa Art Show & Exhibition is set to support artists to become commercially successful and showcase the region's rich settler heritage and Aboriginal history.

CinéfestOZ
August 22 to 26
Each year CinéfestOZ brings new and exciting films to the screens, some of which might have never been shown before and showcases talent that might otherwise be hidden from the public gaze. All films shown have a French or Australian link, either by way of the filmmaker, production and direction involvement or scriptwriting. Whilst enjoying fabulous film screenings, visitors to the festival can immerse themselves in the events and mingle with the stars and filmmakers.

Chevron City to Surf 
August 26
Chevron City to Surf for Activ is the largest community sporting event in Western Australia incorporating the marathon, half marathon, 12km run/walk and 4km run/walk/wheelchair. The course takes participants on a journey from the City of Perth to City Beach. Boasting Western Australia's largest field and Australia's richest prize pool, the City to Surf Marathon takes in some of Perth's most beautiful sights. Starting from the city centre, runners travel along the Swan River banks before entering Kings Park & Botanic Garden and finishing at City Beach on the beautiful Indian Ocean.

Shinju Matsuri Festival
August 31 to September 9
From the high spirited and colourful waking of Sammy the Dragon after his yearlong slumber, across 10 days of festivities, Shinju Matsuri is an experience like no other. Held every year to coincide with the natural phenomenon known as 'Staircase to the Moon', the town buzzes with excitement as it celebrates Broome's multicultural heritage and pearling history.

Red Earth Arts Festival
August 31 to September 23
A celebration of arts, culture and entertainment in the Pilbara the festival includes a feast of art, music, comedy and films. It aims to engage local arts and cultural groups, offer opportunities to showcase local talent and support the development and growth of the arts and culture industry in the Pilbara region.
