The inaugural Samsung AACTA Awards were held last night at the Sydney Opera House. Geoffrey Rush, Cate Blanchett and Jonathan and Anthony LaPaglia were among the internationally acclaimed actors attending the event to honour the year’s best achievements in Australian film and television. The event was broadcast on Channel Nine and Sydney’s icons were featured in the coverage.
AACTA is the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and the Awards are a continuation of the Australian Film Institute’s (AFI) Awards which have celebrated Australia's screen excellence and heritage since 1958.

Destination NSW is a strategic partner in the AACTA Awards. The NSW Government secured the event for Sydney this year and it will be held in the city until 2014. Red Dog took home the prestigious award for Best Film. For more information and to see all of the winners go to the AACTA website.
